Owllord -> [WAD] Flight RTBs before Strike Range is reached (5/16/2017 6:05:27 PM)

Hi,

please take a look at the attached file, I stripped it down to the bare essentials. Load up as Turkey, you will notice the strike package diverts back to base well before the 450nm it is supposed to reach with this loadout. I am not sure if I am just making a terribly stupid mistake, in which case, I apologize. :)

Hi Owllord, thanks for the savegame.

The answer is simple: The Bingo fuel logics take into account the fact that the draggy Popeye missiles will have to be brought back to base, increasing fuel consumption on the return leg. This is a built-in safety measure for Patrol missions.

Instead, use a Strike mission. This mission type allows you to configure whether the Bingo fuel logics shall assume the ordnance is expended at max range, or brought back to base. See the 'Fuel / Ordance' setting in the mission editor.

Details here:
http://www.warfaresims.com/?p=3653

Mission Fuel: How much reserve fuel shall the mission planner calculate with? In case we’re expecting to bring heavy ordnance back to base then the mission planner needs to assume higher fuel burn rates from the target area to base. This will in turn reduce maximum strike radius. The players have the option to manually select which fuel plan to use, with the standard configuration being the loadout’s default setting. In most cases, strike loadouts assume ordnance is dropped at max radius.

Thank you for looking into it, that certainly makes sense. You always learn something new!

As for a Strike mission, given the Turkish side will be AI controlled, what would be the best way to ensure that the strike mission will target the ships in a certain area instead of random far off ships - triggering the mission only once the ships are in that area and spotted is the idea I currently have, but what tells me that the AI won't designate other ships as mission targets, provided it is aware of them?

Owlord,

I am unable to load your scenario at the minute mate, but I think if I read your post right, then ticking the little ""preplanned targets from list" on the right of the strike mission target list will prevent the AI attacking anything other than the ships you add to the target list.

Hope this helps
