Dragoastro -> GCUs move to wrong hex (5/18/2017 4:33:33 PM)

The setup:

I am playing Japan vs Allied AI

3/9/42
18 GCUs are in 87,45 following the 63rd Division, all are a few (4 iirc) miles from moving, they are in Combat Mode
the 63rd Division is ~ 42/46 miles complete of its move NE to Chengchow (hex 88,44), also in Combat Mode

3/10/42
14 GCUs are in Chengchow
there is a large battle in Chengchow between 3/9 and 3/10. This was an Allied Deliberate Att. The results were favorable for the Japanese, no retreats.
the 63rd Div and 4 Tank Rgts that were following it are now in hex 88,45 (East of 88,44).

They moved to the wrong hex!

Further:
63rd Div is in Combat Mode, Located at (88,45)
March Objective 88,44
NE of 63rd This is wrong **,44 is NW of 88,45!
March Direction: NE Wrong should be NW
March Distance: 46
Distance Traveled: 2

the 4 tank Rgt have similar info, plus
Following: 63rd Division, INF

Please note I reloaded the 3/9/42 turn and verified my orders were correct. I reran the turn and achieved the same results.

Game save(s) available upon request.

Note
I tried to upload the game save, and got:
C:\fakepath\wpae188.pws is not supported

GetAssista -> RE: GCUs move to wrong hex (5/18/2017 4:43:51 PM)

Screenshot would be very helpful. Also what version of the game are you using? You can look it up on the main screen in the upper right corner

Forum accepts only certain file formats. zip will do AFAIR

Lokasenna -> RE: GCUs move to wrong hex (5/18/2017 5:41:49 PM)

This is a recognized issue that comes up seemingly at random, but always with multi-hex moves (which your follow movement was, it sounds like). Sometimes they take funny/nonoptimal paths. There is a workaround.

If you go back to your 3/9/42 turn and manually order each of those LCUs to move to Chengchow, you should now see "Direct" in the movement line. So long as they are moving in the same direction as before, they will not lose any movement progress.

I tend to use single hex movement near the front lines, unless I know beyond any doubt that the LCU will move the way I want it to (e.g., a grey road for 3-4 hexes vs. jungle rough if they deviate from the grey road).

BBfanboy -> RE: GCUs move to wrong hex (5/18/2017 6:17:17 PM)

Tank units will often forsake the follow order to travel faster on a road. The same may be true of avoiding river crossings if there is a bridge nearby.

For the Division, I would check the commander's aggression, or go back to the pre-crossing turn and see which unit it was following. If it was following the tanks, you have your answer. I don't trust the follow movement at the point of contact with the enemy (land or sea). I use Set All to March and micromanage the units to slow the fastest ones until the slower ones catch up/get a little ahead.

Dragoastro -> RE: GCUs move to wrong hex (5/18/2017 7:54:01 PM)

I just attempted to embed an edited screen shot, hopefully it will post. The red arrow shows the ordered and desired move, the green arrow shows where the 63rd DIv and the 4 Tank Rgts moved.

To answer a couple posts:
1) This was a single hex move from hex 87,45 to Chengchow (hex 88,44).
2) 63rd Div was ordered to move to Chengshow and then a "Set all to follow" was given. To be clear, the 63rd Div was the leader (not the follower).
3) 14 of the GCUs which were supposed to be following the 63rd Div successfully entered Chengchow.
4) the 63rd Div and 4 Tank Rgts went to the wrong hex.
5) there is no river crossing involved in the ordered move.
6) game version 1.8.11.26a - Jul 10 2016 17:35:45

I will to upload a save game next post.

Here is the file, I used 7zip to save it and changed the extension name from 7z to zip. If you can uzip this and run the turn, you should see the bug repro.

I'm curious if anyone had a chance to try the save file to see if you can repro the bug?
