HalfLifeExpert -> Intercept and Trail Unfriendly/Neutral Aircraft? (5/19/2017 9:31:41 PM)

I apologize if I am missing something obvious, but I want to know if there is a way I can order fighters to intercept and trail/escort aircraft that are Neutral or Unfriendly status, in the sense of being in weapons range to engage instantly just in case.

I ask because i just loaded up Armed Diplomacy for the first time, and a couple PLAN SH-5 Harbin Seaplanes started approaching the Nimitz CVBG. I launched a pair of F-14s, and just kept them close to the two SH-5s, manually adjusting altitude, speed and course.

I don't want them anywhere close to the Nimitz, but as they are "Neutral", I cannot engage of course.

Also, if it is not already a way to do it, do you plan on adding a mission of a sort of "no shooting" intercept, in the sense of trying to warn off an aircraft from your forces by radio contact/warnings?

I believe you can right click on them and declare them hostile

I could, but that may start the scenario down a weird path, plus, I haven't been attacked. I'm not going to violate my ROE and start a war with the PRC without orders. Perhaps i could declare them unfriendly?

These two PLAN Seaplanes ultimately flew over the Nimitz group, but no shooting happened. Then turned away and I landed my two F-14s. Now they are moving in the direction of Taiwan, a flightpath just to the north of the Nimitz, and I just launched a couple F-18s, to shadow them. Air Intercept mission doesn't work with Neutral status.

You might try defining an area around the neutral bogies and making all of the reference points relative to one of the targets. These should then follow the neutral aircraft as long as you maintain contact, either radar or visual. You can then set up an AAW patrol operating inside the area and your aircraft should match the targets course and speed. You can customize the size and shape of the patrol area to give the best results.

If you declare them as unfriendly they'll do everything but attack.

Will that change their posture toward me? I just want to avoid violating my ROE

Nope as long as you don't shoot.

Excellent! Thank you!

Just tried it with a couple F-18s against those two Harbins, and it did exactly what I wanted, thank you again!
