Just finished "Opening Move." Have played this 3 times, each time it was different. Positive ID on the Charlie, Victor and November very early with the Charlie to close for comfort to TU.03. Held him down with active/passive sb's but still lost the Van NES to a torp from this guy. The Victor was a tough one as a P3 launched 7 torps and he evaded all...except the 8th.

As you, the Juliet and the Charlie were the main threats...!st two go arounds, I lost ships to their missiles.....

Excellent AAR!

Hey Darkwing I am only just starting to read your excellent AARs... I thought I recognised the name Arcadia Prime, then remembered I used to read your painting tutorials back in 2009/2010! Really enjoying the AARs and also found your painting tuts really useful, your IG minis really inspired the style I ended up painting my army in.

Nice AARs, thanks Darkwing!

tbachus -> RE: Northern Inferno AARs (4/18/2018 6:46:07 PM)

Darkwing, really enjoying your AARs. I've been running through each of the scenarios before I read them so don't get spoiled. In Damn the Torpedoes, like you, I managed to sink most of the opposing subs with the loss of just 1 UK FF and 1 US FF. I then blissfully set sail due east for the English channel when my E-1 on station to the north picked up about 20-25 Backfires approaching. Results of that encounter mirrored yours.

In my second effort, started from an earlier saved game, I realized that at that point I had already shot down 3 Bear recon aircraft and sunk both of the Mayak AGIs, and therefore the Sovs might be short on recon assets. I was not certain how the convoy position was discovered in my first attempt (satellite maybe?), so instead of continuing east, I turned the whole convoy directly south and positioned my SM-1 armed ships to the north of the convoy on the threat axis. My intent was to sail to the Iberian peninsula and then skirt the French coast up to the channel to hopefully avoid any remaining subs and thus detection. I also hoped that the Backfires might not be able to carry two Kitchens at that range, making any raid easier to deal with. However, after about 12 game hours, no enemy activity at all was detected, neither subs nor aircraft. I decided to take a chance that all the subs had been taken out, so I turned northeast at full speed and made it to the safe zone completely unscathed for a Triumph.

Anyway, thanks for your good work!

I agree with this, Central Inferno and Pacific Inferno don't sound too interesting.

Patmanaut -> RE: Northern Inferno AARs (2/18/2019 3:23:35 PM)

Hi:
Iīm about to finish "Beware of the Badger", but I have a question.
The P3-B search radars, APS-80s I guess, can detect relatively distant surface contacts from their highest altitude. But once the contact is lost because it fell out of the antenna covered arch as a result of the P-3 maneuvers, they couldnīt regain it. It only regain it if the P-3 descended to 610 meters, following the expected contact route, but suddenly appearing almost below the plane when it was too late to evade AA fire.(In daylight.)
The sea condition in the scenario is 5, I understand that a small target is hard to detect, but a Kashin class DDG isnīt a small patrol craft.
Any commnets on this case?
Iīll be saving a file soon.
