Hello all
There seems to be an issue with accessing ongoing PBEM games if you upgrade to v1.04

We are looking into it but TBH we're a little puzzled by it.

Just created a new PBEM++ game with 1.04 and my opponent accepted it. When I go to play my first turn it says I need to "upgrade" to 1.03.

Edit - The second time I tried to get to the PBEM++ server it worked without any error message. So either you guys fixed the problem since my original post, or a possible workaround is to try twice to play a game.

Please try again and let me know as this should be working now... I had temporarily changed the client number as I was investigating the above reported issue.

I have this issue as well for the beta. Other games are working fine (previous 1.03)

The right click on a unit button, to perform actions, is dead. WHY??? You now have to go down and find an icon, among 10 others. This is bad, bad, bad. Please bring the right button back.

Just to le t you know, will not log to server while using 1.03.00..say need to update to 1.04 & then next screen say client mismatch, have tried 5 times.

I am currently playing 3 opponents across the world & we are all using 1.03. None of us want to upgrade just yet,
so how do we continue playing as it refuses to allow us to log in. [:@] [:@]

You'll need to upgrade to v1.04 using the full installer and then apply the hotfix EXE with instructions found here:

The v1.04 update is fully compatible with any v1.03 games in progress so you will not lose your games.

Unfortunately no, if you update to v1.04 you'll lose compatibility with v1.03.04 Beta PBEM++ games as the Beta PBEM++ games use a different server.

One option however is to make a copy of your v1.03.04 game EXE (rename it something else and copy it somewhere safe), then install the v1.04 update.

After that replace this renamed v1.03.04 game EXE inside your v1.04 installation folder so you'll have the two EXEs side by side.

Launching the Beta EXE will allow you to continue playing your Beta PBEM++ games, and launching the new v1.04 EXE will allow you to play new or older v1.03 official release PBEM++ games.

Thanks Hubert, but to be clear, my opponent (for an in progress v1.03.04 PMEM++ game) would also have to make a copy of his v1.03.04 game EXE (rename it something else and copy it somewhere safe), then install the v1.04 update but use the saved renamed v1.03.04 game EXE inside his v1.04 installation folder so he will also have the two EXEs side by side and the choice of which one to launch.

My understanding is that updating to v1.04 (to play new or older v1.03 official release PBEM++ games) but using a renamed v1.03.04 game EXE to launch, will still result in the non-campaign related v1.04 changes taking effect, and this is why my opponent would also have to upgrade to v1.04 but use a renamed saved copy of his v1.03.04 game EXE (saved before upgrading to v1.04), to launch the game, for us to continue our v1.03.04 Beta PBEM++ game in progress, right?

Hi CC1,

Yes, both your opponent and yourself will require the BETA EXE in order to continue v1.03 BETA PBEM++ EXEs. The reason for this is that the BETA EXE points to a different server (test server) versus the official v1.04 game EXE which points to the regular live server.

To simplify the process, and my initial instructions above, I would recommend the following:

1) Full update and install of the v1.04 update. Then apply the v1.04 hotfix recommended as it resolves a few other CTD issues with the applicable instructions as found here:

The v1.04 hotfix is recommended until we make the next full patch available as it resolves several key issues as well as some crashes to desktops under rare circumstances.


2) Then download and copy over the latest v1.03.04.03 BETA EXE found here:

This BETA EXE has been named differently so there is no need to rename it and it won't overwrite your v1.04 EXE. Then to continue playing v1.03 BETA PBEM games simply launch the BETA EXE instead of the default one.

So my understanding then is that because my opponent and I would be using the v1.03.04 BETA EXE for a PBEM++ game (on the Beta server) from within an updated v1.04 game context, our v1.03.04 BETA PBEM++ game would play out with any additional non-campaign related v1.04 changes, if there are any relative to v1.03.04 BETA (i.e., additional changes that are presumably not provided with the v1.03.04 BETA update), right?

In other words, will upgrading to v1.04 and launching the game with the v1.03.04 BETA EXE for a PBEM++ game, result in any v1.04 changes that may not be in the v1.03.04 Beta version, being applied?

Hi CC1,

At this point the latest Beta package and the full v1.04 update are virtually identical other than the EXEs having different version numbers and for the fact that they point at different PBEM++ servers.

This is so we can test the Beta and release the full updates as an identical package once we know the Beta has held up.

To answer more specifically, whether you play PBEM from the latest Beta package or from the v1.04 update with a Beta EXE, it will be the same.

I now see that I was under the wrong impression, from what we discussed in http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4288120&mpage=1�, that the following (and maybe a few other features listed for v1.04) were not features of v1.03.04 Beta:

• Carriers can now raid a convoy from within its strike range, except for convoys starting from a currently Neutral country.
• air units can no longer raid a convoy starting from a Neutral country.

I just realized that I was talking about v1.03.01 Beta in the thread link mentioned above...
