SBD-5, SB2C.

Yes. You were the first to identify both types of aircraft present. [8D]

Chickenboy -> RE: OT: Name that plane / ship (7/13/2017 10:46:39 PM)

All glory is fleeting, rustyi.

Try this next one on for size:

AW1Steve -> RE: OT: Name that plane / ship (7/14/2017 12:49:38 AM)

Kawanishi H6K Mavis.

rustysi -> RE: OT: Name that plane / ship (7/14/2017 1:18:23 AM)

More specifically H6K-5.

wdolson -> RE: OT: Name that plane / ship (7/14/2017 5:13:18 AM)

Probably the Hasegawa model of the Mavis.

adarbrauner -> RE: OT: Name that plane / ship (7/14/2017 8:00:50 AM)

What aen impressiv big plane... probably its wingspan isn't that shorter of a B 29's (if at all)

wdolson -> RE: OT: Name that plane / ship (7/14/2017 8:19:04 AM)

The B-29 is about 10 feet longer wingspan.

Chickenboy -> RE: OT: Name that plane / ship (7/14/2017 4:00:52 PM)

Throwing a spanner in the works today. Name that ship:

BBfanboy -> RE: OT: Name that plane / ship (7/14/2017 6:52:46 PM)

Looks like Mutsu or Nagato, unless it is one of the never-built ships like Tosa (destroyed in the Tokyo earthquake IIR).

AW1Steve -> RE: OT: Name that plane / ship (7/14/2017 9:25:50 PM)

How about the Kaga as planned?

Well? Which of those three guesses did you want to select for your choice?

ETA: You forgot "Yamato or Hiei" in your guess 'list'. [:'(]

Agree with Mutsu or Nagato.

sstevens06 -> RE: OT: Name that plane / ship (7/14/2017 9:35:02 PM)

Nagato.

Yes , it's guess. And it's mine. All mine. So there! [:D]

Nagato.

Good choice. Correct. [8D]

Chickenboy -> RE: OT: Name that plane / ship (7/15/2017 2:15:03 AM)

Try this one on for size. Today's second mystery ship entry...

For identification, I'll take the class of ship, with brownie points for the exact one.

Good choice. Correct. [8D]

Don't know if I was cheating, but I had The Imperial Japanese Navy In The Pacific War, by Mark E. Stille open to page 130, exact match!

Burro -> RE: OT: Name that plane / ship (7/15/2017 3:26:22 AM)

USS Pennsylvania (BB-38)

wdolson -> RE: OT: Name that plane / ship (7/15/2017 5:25:38 AM)

If it is a 1/200 scale ship, it might be the Trumpeter USS Arizona converted to the Pennsylvania.

Shark7 -> RE: OT: Name that plane / ship (7/15/2017 8:08:40 AM)

USS Arizona (BB-39). It was the only one with all turret tops painted red. Pennsylvania had 2 white and 1 blue.

wdolson -> RE: OT: Name that plane / ship (7/15/2017 8:17:56 AM)

I know the US was replacing the cage masts with tripod masts at the time of Pearl Harbor, but I thought the Arizona still had the cage mast.

Shark7 -> RE: OT: Name that plane / ship (7/15/2017 8:46:37 AM)

Arizona received tripod masts during her 1929-30 refit.
