Kashgar - Almost 100 4e 'beasties' bomb troop when weather permits.

What an absolute waste of a mission.

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 137287 troops, 1378 guns, 974 vehicles, Assault Value = 4365

Defending force 533484 troops, 115 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 15056

Japanese adjusted assault: 2318

Allied adjusted defense: 3389

Japanese assault odds: 1 to 2 (fort level 6)

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), forts(+), preparation(-), experience(-)
supply(-)
Attacker:

Japanese ground losses:
3522 casualties reported
Squads: 19 destroyed, 619 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 24 disabled
Engineers: 1 destroyed, 39 disabled
Guns lost 31 (2 destroyed, 29 disabled)

Allied ground losses:
68485 casualties reported
Squads: 2359 destroyed, 413 disabled
Non Combat: 1955 destroyed, 175 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Guns lost 27 (25 destroyed, 2 disabled)
Units destroyed 14

Most of the divisions have around 30 plus squads disabled, but with high disruption and fatigue across them all. They are divided, but the worst two are ordered to march 2 hexes for R&R while fresh troops march here. No fort reduction.

I thought that would happen. No fort reduction is poor luck, but not detrimental. Chungking can only take 8-10 more attacks like that spread out over about 5 days.

C6N1 Myrt to 7/44

Ki-43-IV Oscar to 8/45

N1K5-J George to 6/44

I though Sam in this mod was accelerated to a 2/45 start?

I think at this point the Oscar IV needs only minimal r&d if you have engine bonus. Better off putting those facilities into the Ki94II, Shinden, Ki83, or even Karyu. Perhaps a dedicated kamikaze if you have those bases covered.

ny59giants -> RE: "It's the economy, stupid" BTSL NY59G (J) vs Gen Patton (A) (2/25/2018 12:47:01 PM)

A7M2 Sam will start production in 1/44.

Mike Solli -> RE: "It's the economy, stupid" BTSL NY59G (J) vs Gen Patton (A) (2/25/2018 12:57:01 PM)

Michael, was that your first deliberate assault on Chungking? Also, how long have you been bombarding it with artillery? I finally did my first bombardment there. The AV is about the same for my game. Just wondering how long to bombard before trying an assault.

Mike, you can't compare results, this game has stacking limits, and yours doesn't.

I'm a long way from having to use kamikazes, but I need to do something at some point.

Michael

Always another tough decision. I would solicit thoughts here and then sit back. A lot of it stems from how you will plan to use them.
I'll provide you just a teaser here of how difficult this is:
Kate - packs a good punch, has great range (relatively as a kami, 7 is good), but is painfully slow.
Toka/Tsurugi - packs a good punch, but the range is only 5, however, great speed.
I'm not suggesting you won't have both, you likely will. BUT, where do you focus?
This is just one small part of your decision tree, you can do this for another 6 or 7 model 'pairs'.

I honestly don't believe there is a best choice here, BUT I do believe that for each player in a specific game, there is a best choice. Make sense?

Notes:
Screen shot shows two things. Current position of KB and what warships are due upgrades in Dec 43. The 4 CAs are leaving Port Hedland for Soerabaja. I'm thinking since it will take some time to rebuild my shattered DB & TB groups to send these ships up to Japan for upgrades (25 days). So KB would be weakened until late Jan 44. I have another large group due upgrades in Apr 44.

Painful as it is, you gotta do those upgrades ... at least in stock. If this is like stock, then the AA and radar upgrades are well worth the month of down time.

Actually, it isn't painful to do the upgrades, just suspense laden. If the ships are upgrading safely, you know they won't be sunk![;)]

Well, yes you are right. But the pain is when you need the KB (or whatever ship is in drydock upgrade) and you can't have it .... that's against the unthinking AI ... against a player who might know your upgrade timing ...
as the allies it would mean a 'free' amphib op or maybe two ... i know the KB won't oppose me, so the defense optins are limited and I can load up for them.

If you want to attack at over 360mph you have only three bomber choices. Somebody used Recon planes (njp?) to good effect. Fighters and Fighter bomber squadrons are needed for other duty.

Kami attacks are almost always land based, subject to fracturing, and a horde of slow planes I think is almost always VP for the Allies. In fact, can you name me one recent JFB that has done well with kamikazes?

PaxMondo -> RE: "It's the economy, stupid" BTSL NY59G (J) vs Gen Patton (A) (2/25/2018 5:57:40 PM)

Michael, Again, take this with a grain of salt because I don't think there is a magic formula, but here are a few thoughts. Remember, I am not expert on this mod, so my comments relate to stock.

Toka: the IJN version of the Ki-115 Tsurugi. I would not build it. Why? You have 3 IJN models that are far better and already in production: Jill/Judy/Grace. All are about the same speed as the Toka, same load, etc.
Tsurugi: This can be a good choice to use the existing Ha-35 capacity. These can also be effective at high fort bases, those 800kg bombs actually do damage. The 5 range is the issue.
C6N-S: For me, this is the best of a lot of lousy IJN NF's. I say lousy as none have armor, so losses are high. This one at least is 1E, so all the A2A losses against the b-29's hurt only half as much.
Randy NF: It looks like you will still be in the game when this arrives, so sit back and enjoy watching this one work. Your losses will fall in half due to the armor, and the allied losses will double due to it armaments.

Bif1961 -> RE: "It's the economy, stupid" BTSL NY59G (J) vs Gen Patton (A) (2/26/2018 12:57:39 AM)

so are you shooting for a 1943 auto victory? you're about 5,000 points short and maybe the continued losses in Chungking will push your over and especially if you can capture it before the end of 43!

ny59giants -> RE: "It's the economy, stupid" BTSL NY59G (J) vs Gen Patton (A) (2/26/2018 1:05:50 AM)

Already had the AI grant me auto victory earlier in '43. I'm going until Japan is forced to surrender.

In this mod, I think the Toka is a 385 mph screamer, significantly better than Judy 4. it is the ijn version of the Ki115b. A solid choice.

Given recent games, I don't think the Frank B is worth it or the Sam J.

The Grace is light, but you have that base covered with Judy/Jill.

Frances S is the best NF in the game--Myrt is probably 2nd best. Randy's radar doesn't ever come into play unless modded.

You are going to make it late, so personally it would be interesting to see what the Kikka can do.

I told Brian that we may actually see CVB Midway in action. How many TT hits would that beast take b4 being sunk?? 6 plus?

ny59giants -> RE: "It's the economy, stupid" BTSL NY59G (J) vs Gen Patton (A) (2/28/2018 12:56:30 AM)

Thanks for the feedback on what planes to focus on in '44 and beyond.

43 Dec 8 thru 11: back to just China....

China:
Kashgar - Allied heavy bombers from India fly over the mountains to bomb my troops here. Yawn!! [:D]

Chungking - Severe storms limit my Helens building up their experience on his AF. Four days of ground bombardments. Here is what occurred on 11th...
quote:

Ground combat at Chungking (76,45)

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 4806 troops, 307 guns, 394 vehicles, Assault Value = 4332

Defending force 476646 troops, 94 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 12480

Allied ground losses:
2692 casualties reported
Squads: 125 destroyed, 7 disabled
Non Combat: 48 destroyed, 2 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

Notes:
Ki-69-Ia (T) Peggy to 4/44

P1Y2 Frances to 2/44

A7M3 Sam to 4/45

Ki-84b Frank to 4/44

B6N2a Jill to 3/44

Kaigun - Either in Japan for upgrades or taking on fuel at Truk. In next few days, she will be ready again, but just need for airgroups to finish up some more rest (lower airframe fatigue) before restarting training again for KB.

ny59giants -> RE: "It's the economy, stupid" BTSL NY59G (J) vs Gen Patton (A) (3/3/2018 11:31:28 AM)

43 Dec 12 thru 15: Yes readers, its just China and logistics right now. With John 3rd vs Canoerebel ending, the most exciting AAR is Lowpe vs Obvert. I wish I could report something happening here, but no joy.

Subs: Triton is hit by ASW TF 2 west of Tabiteuea. I'm making my ASW TFs into 3 ship TF with 2 "E" and a DD.

China:
Kashgar - Bombed by Allies for first three days.
Chungking - Weather ruled most days, so my Helens were grounded. However, I have plenty of artillery to ground bombard as my Infantry Divisions (ID) continue to recover disruption and fatigue. Here is the result for the 20th. I'm reducing his raw AV by about 100 each day.
quote:

Ground combat at Chungking (76,45)

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 17491 troops, 414 guns, 433 vehicles, Assault Value = 4445

Defending force 467836 troops, 88 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 12028

Allied ground losses:
1285 casualties reported
Squads: 123 destroyed, 8 disabled
Non Combat: 15 destroyed, 0 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

Notes:
KB (those ships not in Japan for upgrades) is now back at Kusaie Island.

Ki-61-II KAIb Tony to 3/44

ny59giants -> RE: "It's the economy, stupid" BTSL NY59G (J) vs Gen Patton (A) (3/3/2018 12:03:51 PM)

43 Dec 16 thru 19: Another 4 days worth of mostly China

Subs:
SS Tautog is 2 SWW of Eniwetok on morning of 19th. My two G.6 CVs and a few other warships due 1/44 upgrades heading for Japan run over her. Thankfully, ALL 6 TT miss CV Kushiro... <gulp> [&o]

China:
Kushgar - No Allied bombers for four days.

Hong Kong - Lots of troops from greater Chungking area are here or marching the last few hexes for redeployment. India and Java/Sumatra get most. Lots of xAPs and Toho Class xAK (t) coming and going.

Chungking - My 190 plus Helens find weather get better and better. Only 1 of 10 ID have any fatigue or disruption left. I'll plan on deliberate attacks twice per month now. Here are results for 19th...
quote:

Ground combat at Chungking (76,45)

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 71349 troops, 850 guns, 561 vehicles, Assault Value = 4460

Defending force 460521 troops, 84 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 11625

Allied ground losses:
2811 casualties reported
Squads: 153 destroyed, 11 disabled
Non Combat: 16 destroyed, 4 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

CenPac:
Nonouti (1 NW of Tabiteuea) - I start ground attack by 20 Jill and 25 George on 19th. There is a fragment of 24th ID here (rest on Tabiteuea). Troops at Truk almost prepped to retake. A strong SC TF at Kusaie with 4 CA, 2 CLAA, and 9 DDs get ready to bombard it. Counter invasion in about two weeks.

Notes:
N1K5-J George to 5/44

A7M3 Sam to 3/45

Japan - Nagaoka has AF 8 and Niigata has AF 4. I'm building up bases to forts 4 and AF to either 8 or max in western half first. I have 10 construction type units assigned to these two bases.

ny59giants -> RE: "It's the economy, stupid" BTSL NY59G (J) vs Gen Patton (A) (3/4/2018 12:23:15 PM)

43 Dec 20 thru 24: No longer boring....Death Star reappears off Tabiteuea!!

Subs:
23rd - Gudgeon is run over by part of KB and later the Combat Replay announces "enemy carriers." Bugger!!

CVs:
20th - TF shows up 3 NE of Baker Island. Looks like transports, but turns out it's not.
21st - Three TFs are now 6 east of Tabiteuea = 329F, 202B, 23Aux & 116F, 37B, 18Aux, & SC TF
22nd - DS is now 2 NE of Tabiteuea
23rd - See screen shot for positions of KB & DS

Aleutians:

Notes:
D4Y4 Judy to 3/44

Screen shot - I've removed Judy & Jill from two of my Shokaku-kai CVs and added 2 x 45 plane George groups. Going fighter heavy as I've ordered my Judy & Jill to stand down. Plans are to move down to off Ocean Is. next turn, if still present, I'll order 2 x SC TF to Full Spd to hit his TFs at Tabiteuea. The turn after will be KB moving in provide LRCAP over a third SC TF formed from KBs screen.

The four Kongos with DDs are now two days north of Truk after finishing upgrades.

I have 6 CV and 3 CVL less than 10 days until upgrades completed at Yokohama. Once they join KB in month, I'll go after DS.

In hindsight, my SC TF with 3 fast BBs should have gone to his CV TF, rather than Tabiteuea and end up hitting a mine.

KB will head east to see if I can get lucky while my 3 x SC TF head back to port

Brian is in the process of surrendering to the Japanese Empire. Banzai!! [:)]

I've opened a new thread in "Opponents Wanted" to find an Allied replacement player.

Did you find someone to continue?

I've gotten one PM and three others posting some interest. No one has contacted Brian yet for files and PW as I got an email from him last night.

I really want a chance to sink CVB Midway. [:D]

You have to get past hundreds of B-29s that want to ruin your econ before you get to see Midway!! First things first. [:D]

Way to kill my 'little fantasy' Erik! [:D]

Months ago I was talking with John about BTS and BTSL and future changes. At that time a book I was reading had the main character in Argentina and somebody on this board I think mentioned a German BB (I think it was a series from 60s now on YouTube). So, I got John to research if Japan had any plans for pocket-BB. There were plans for a 12" gun, but no pocket. So, in new BTS version Japan has the Niitaka Class CAs come with 6 x 12" guns while the Allies now get two more Alaska BCs (Puerto Rico and Hawaii). This will be in BTS version, not BTSL.

Hopefully, this game continues so both sides get to play with the late war toys. New changes to BTS may have the same effect for those playing new games. My goal is simple....complete a game (into 45 or 46) with Japan and then as Allies. If this game doesn't continue, I'll be looking for a new game BTS or BTSL to work on that goal.

Well done. I bet you have problems finding a replacement, as most players want a strong position. My guess is there is much that needs attention here, especially given the hectic pace you guys have played at.

Wouldn't bother me though, I like em ugly.[:D]

I may have found a replacement Allied player in AcePylut (Darryn). I think he has everything he needs including the Dec 1st turn. Fingers crossed. [;)]

Any update?

Sent PM to both his home email addresses last night. Please stand by.

Meanwhile, I'm playing Allies vs AI (Long Road to Tokyo) and at end of Dec 41. AI is planning to invade Hiva Oa. AI scripts are from Andy Mac, so he must be channeling his inner John 3rd. [:D] I've already lost Hilo, Kona, Midway, Johnson, Christmas Island, Coal Harbour, and Noumea.
