My weakness will be managing the Japanese economy, but I'm sure that I can glean some hints from many of you. That's everyone's weakness when they start.[:D] Yes, Numdydar's primer is a great place to start, but its only a start. There're so many things to read and consider I can't even remember them all. Then there're personal preferences and style of play. My game style doesn't match well to the community. For instance I don't stop the production of my merchies as a lot of players do. One reason is I feel this is something Japan wouldn't do. Second, and a bit more important, to me at least, is I can find a use for every vessel I get. I also don't try to get the 'land bridge' going for resources/oil/fuel. Not because I don't believe it couldn't be done, although I have my doubts it could be done on the scale needed. The reason I don't do it is there's no game mechanic to interdict such route, as can be done with sea movement. To me at least I think that's removing an inherent and fun part of playing the game. AFB's try to stop it. I try to keep it going. That said the economy is all about the numbers. What can I afford to do here and there. Many say not to increase industry as the return on investment takes too long. I say hogwash, as long as its done in a certain way. To me that means expanding where the 'numbers' make sense, Sakhalin, Hokkaido, Formosa, Korea, Manchukuo. These areas all have excess resources and poor industry output. Now does that mean you just go nuts, no, but do match the numbers. To me the payback is faster in these areas as the need to ship is reduced, thus saving fuel which can then be fed to your HI to produce both supply and HI points. Remember its more economical to ship supply than resources. OTOH you do need to leave some excess resources in these areas as the HI have a dearth of available inputs. Again balance. BTW it goes on and on and on... You get the picture. The economy is all intertwined and everything is affected by what you do in each area. There's no set answer in MHO, and you're going to have to play and adjust to suit your own playing style. Also to find out what will and will not work when its all put together. Hope some of this helps, and remember the above is JMHO, and YMMV.
