Pax25 -> PBEM++ System? (7/10/2017 12:01:54 AM)

Can someone please describe the PBEM++ system to me and how it differs from traditional PBEM and online head to head? For example, can both players be on at the same time and watch each others moves (similar to head to head), or do we still have to wait and play back their turn?

I've looked online a lot for information about PBEM++, but most things just say how revolutionary it is, but don't really describe what it is. I do understand that it's server based and easy to find opponents, but just not how it works.

Thanks.

You are still watching your opponent's moves on a replay instead of real-time, but everything is handled automatically, and by the game: you post and accept challenges from within the game. When it is your turn to play, you will receive an e-mail alert. When you are finished with your moves, the game will upload your turn to the server, and notify your opponent that it is now his turn.

Thank you.

Does it prevent reloading cheating? That would be fine.

Wait, sorry. Is this going to be an option or the only option?

I'm a rural internet user myself, and I can't play mainstream games on multiplayer to begin with because of low speeds, but now having to connect to a game server? How big will the savegame files be that are transferred back and forth?

What happens when in 5-10 years, when I want to pull the game out and heaven forbid, the servers aren't up anymore (remember all the games back in the day using GameSpy servers?)

This is sending the exact same save files you send manually via e-mail in TOAW3. There is no real-time element, sending a turn takes exactly as much time as sending a similarly sized e-mail, so if you have a REALLY slow connection, it will take a few seconds longer than for somebody with a good connection, but that is it.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm still unsure of a few points:
Will PBEM++ be the only option?
What is the size of the savegame file in TOAW 4 compared to TOAW 3?

I agree let's hope there are other options.....
