Rising Sun(v.2.02) worked perfectly in W.10 since Jan 2017. I tried to play today but...Scenarios will open, the full screen appears, the upper and lower menu display, as does the divider right side for units. YET the MAP and Unit area are all white. On opening, the MAP is tiny in center and the clickable 'start turn' also (tiny),rests above it. Any functions such as redraw map, fire/move button elict an error ping. In window mode, making the window smaller vertically makes many lower menus appear. Smaller horizontally makes 'bar codes' appear from the edge where the smaller started.
When click for turn is pressed the map is all white and does not function. Requests for status, reinforcements, VC do display properly. The generate battle option, also has this problem.
Both EF and WF work fine. The map and scenario editors for RS also work fine. Inconclusive hours of reading forums, reboots, deletion of the 'error log.txt', update again to v.2.02 bring me now to this forum. I have NOT uninstalled then reinstalled MS redistributable 2008, as the other games in the CS title work fine. My compatabilities are OK and reflect what I have for both EF&WF.
Please have a simple solution as opposed to a complete reinstall. I am VERY immpressed this post will be answered, Matrix and you are to be commended.

Upon attempting to load a 'saved game'...
I get an error code from the OS stating...
Rising Sun.exe: [ERROR ID 100] (Front End.cpp,line 179,MainInit()) audiere.dll not found

As next steps, you should:

  • Empty your RS logs folder.
  • Launch RS and observe the bug(s)/crash.
  • Immediately -- don't quit the game just yet -- create a .zip file containing your logs folder.
  • Post the .zip file here.

    berto,
I've never seen a LOGS Folder nestled within the RS Folder. So I started a scen. minimized window, search throughout Rising Sun Folder = NO LOGS FOLDER.
The only folders existing within said RS Folder is "Pictures and Special".
Everything else is 'FILES' ie. BMP,btl, rpl, scn, map. I don't ever remember seeing a "logs Folder" in this location.
I Don't ever recall seeing a logs folder in EF, WF WW1 mod. nor are they there now.

So I scoured my app data folders to see if they are in a USER hierarchy, to no avail. So I ask, where does the 'LOG FOLDER' you require live?

I am running JTCS v.2.02.on ALienware ASM201, Windows 10home, NVIDEA GEForce GTX 960.
I have such RS folder located as...PC>(D)>STRATEGY>MATRIX>JTCS>RisingSun. As Ive said, all EF,WF,WW1 work fine.
And in RS, the map editor, and scen. editors WILL display the map. Also while looking at RS during this Fault time, NO MAP nor UNITS display, BUT the drop downs from the UPPER menu bar will show from the FILE,TURN,ASSAULT, REINFORCE,STATUS,A/I and HELP menus.
I'm trying to send you a zip of my DXDIAG but cant figure how to attach it!

berto -> RE: Rising Sun Graphic error (7/12/2017 11:24:25 PM)

Sorry, my bad. We didn't move to segregating files into separate folders (including the logs folder) until the next generation Campaign Series: Middle East game.

In JTCS, you will find the log files

  • frontend.log
  • engine.log
  • error.log

in the Rising Sun folder. (In Windows Explorer, these might erroneously display as "Text Document" file types.)

So the request is the same, but look for the indicated files right there in the top-level Rising Sun folder.

Not incidentally, the "white map" indicates a program crash, which could be due to a fault anywhere within the Rising Sun module. (In the course of developing these games, I have seen the "white map of death" many hundreds of times. The cause could be just about anything.)

    Berto,
I'm naive to use of the forums and HELPDESK. Ive sent some messages to both locations. The helpdesk allowed me to send .zips so that's where they went. I can't figure how to send such .zips on this forum so that you may see them.
They include 2 .jpgs of my screen, 1 .dxdiag, and the 3 .txt logs. They are now on the helpdesk, advise me if you can help me to get them to you if you need on this forum.

mimarsp -> RE: Rising Sun Graphic error (7/13/2017 3:38:20 PM)

OH, perhaps its the process of clicking the "click here to upload button".
If so here come the files (.zip not supported)...
Nope! I keep getting "x.files" not supported.

zakblood -> RE: Rising Sun Graphic error (7/13/2017 3:40:52 PM)

    sample test

uploaded a zip file for you to try and download, if it works, you see how i got round it, renamed the file to .txt

change it back to .zip and unpack :)

but yes it's easier if it was supported here, site / boards old and ready for a new version asap

mimarsp -> RE: Rising Sun Graphic error (7/13/2017 3:41:29 PM)

Thanks ZakB for your time and patience.
Ive done that but get these False path quotes.

mimarsp -> RE: Rising Sun Graphic error (7/13/2017 3:43:26 PM)

Joe M. at helpdesk mentioned needing 10 posts to enable.

zakblood -> RE: Rising Sun Graphic error (7/13/2017 3:45:07 PM)

    which your at now [:D]

mimarsp -> RE: Rising Sun Graphic error (7/13/2017 3:45:31 PM)

    to enable upload capability.

mimarsp -> RE: Rising Sun Graphic error (7/13/2017 3:46:09 PM)

If so here is my 10th posting.

mimarsp -> RE: Rising Sun Graphic error (7/13/2017 3:48:52 PM)

Thus I'll try the upload now.
So I see only 1 upload per post, the DXDIAG has been sent.

mimarsp -> RE: Rising Sun Graphic error (7/13/2017 4:02:50 PM)

Now I try send .zip of engine, error and frontend .logs
    zip= NG, so 3 .txt
They are .log files and this service doen't support such. I changed file to .txt and sent it.

Allowing only 1 attach per post Im now going to email with Berto directly. Thanks again to you ZakB.
JTCS is such a great game. I'm afarid I will have to once again Reinstall it. And bring my saves of Campaigns and many scens. along for the ride.

mimarsp -> RE: Rising Sun Graphic error (7/21/2017 2:55:10 AM)

Having spent over 35 hours in the past 10 days trying to get JTCS to work...visits to Martix forums and helpdesk. Uploading files there. Taking all sorts of advise from friends and professionals. Uninstalling and reinstalling JTCS,deleting and restoring numerous files. And finally uninstalling and rolling back the NVIDEA drivers. WHAT HAVE I ACCOMPLISHED to restore the functionality of my FAVORITE PC GAME Rising SUN?

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!! The roll back to drivers that worked in Feb. 2017 DO NOT WORK NOW????? I have NO IDEA why not. Nor why only RS is a problem.

BUT.... I find that IF I DISABLE THE NVIDEA DRIVER, and use the built-in MSFT windows graphic display, then an OLD game such as JTCS RS WORKS, as do EF,WF,WW1Mod.

So now I will Update my NVIDEA drivers. Then I'll uninstall the new JTCS folder. Replace it with my old copy of JTCS folder, with ALL the saves, replays etc. for future and continued glories. And remember to use the Device Manager as needed.

I post this for others who may find this helpful. Hopefully as helpful as the Matrix helpdesk, who have been about as helpful as the Windows 10 Compatability Troubleshooter.
