BryanMelvin -> Official Matrix OOB's Update (5/12/2003 11:13:09 AM)

News Flash:

This is to let you all know that the OOB's are in the final stages of development. The new oobs will work with all scenarios / campaigns made in the 7.0 to 7.1 oobs, and even, in the majority of cases, improve them.

Well, what has taken so long you ask? The answer to this is simple. We are compiling new LBM pictures as well as adding Tracer's and Rockin Harry's new Shp and terrain files to the package.

Tracer's and Harry's excellent work will offer greater map making creations as well as having maps compatible between Matrix's SPWAW and H2H SPWAW as well as give new life to the "old" game.

The LBM update will help see the pictures of the units in the purchase menus that were blank for so long as well as correct some errors contianed in these.

All this takes time and it will be worth the wait!

Now, you have the answer to "what's taking so long".

As for a release date - all I can say is soon - as we are working on it :D ;)

Thanks Bryan for the update.:D

Goblin -> (5/12/2003 11:34:42 PM)

I just pitched a tent!:p

We can't wait guys, thanks for letting us know what's up!

Good thing I bought this new, waterproof, keyboard!

Now the drool just puddles on it instead of sinking between the keys! :)

KG Erwin -> Counting down the days... (5/13/2003 6:47:05 AM)

...until I can look over the OOBs, and start a new "Hell in the Pacific" long campaign. Looking forward to it. :)

This one sounds interesting ;)

KG Erwin -> (5/15/2003 7:45:48 PM)

Bryan, I didn't mean writing a new campaign from scratch. I'm not that ambitious (yet). I'm just giving a title to the generic WWII long campaign for the USMC. ;)

Ohh... and you got us all wound up and everything! :D

Jim1954 -> (5/15/2003 8:23:46 PM)

I saw a post from Tracer today that alluded to a 7.2 update soon. Is this it, or a part of it?

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38394

Belisarius -> (5/15/2003 8:47:53 PM)

Yep, this would be it. I've never seen the "7.2" designation for the update, but I expect some major improvements to the game, both in gameplay and graphics.

Jim1954 -> (5/15/2003 8:50:45 PM)

Can't wait.

KG Erwin -> No new campaign, but... (5/15/2003 11:36:25 PM)

...I am contributing in a small way to the revision of the USMC OOB, to be more historically accurate, but the last word, of course, will be Bryan's. With luck, "7.2" will be the definitive OOBs (and other goodies) everyone has been waiting for.

I wouldn't expect for any changes in the game mechanics (game code, that is).
Tough certain changes in the oobs (especially to weapons) can make the game play a bit different, indeed.

Bernie -> Probably too late but... (5/15/2003 11:59:16 PM)

It's probably too late for this but...

Why do British engineers not have engineer ability (ie: lay and remove mines)? Only sappers do.

KG Erwin -> If it makes you guys feel any better... (5/16/2003 5:20:26 AM)

...I know of one distinguished gentleman who is anxious to write some new scenarios featuring the revised USMC OOB. That's all I can reveal at this point. I think everyone will be happy with the final results, but I have no direct knowledge of the anticipated release date. Bernie, as for the Brit engineers, Bryan will have to address that one. AFAIK, the OOBs are not "set in stone" yet. I'm as anxious as the rest of you to get these released, but my endless ramblings about the USMC inaccuracies is just one of the reasons for the delay. I personally want to thank Bryan for listening to all our suggestions, and most if not all are being incorporated into this "final" OOB. An important part of all this is making the OOBs retrofit the 7.0 and 7.1 scenarios. I'd personally prefer going back and redoing the scenarios to match the newest OOBs, and that's something to be considered, but that would unduly delay getting 7.2 released. The older scenarios themselves, including all the pre-7.0 versions, could be reworked on a going forward basis, and the entire SPWaW community could contribute to this. We should discuss this further after the 7.2 OOBs are made available.

BryanMelvin -> Re: If it makes you guys feel any better... (5/16/2003 5:59:37 AM)

The update will be called the 7.2 edition and it will contain new map features from Tracer and Rockin Harry. This way, both spwaw maps and spwaw H2H maps can be interchangable and spwaw will have an extended life ;)

Along with the Shp files and new LBM pictures, the new oobs changes will add a nice touch to improve the game and its features :cool:

rbrunsman -> (5/16/2003 7:03:48 AM)

:cool:

Will there be a complete download available for v7.2 or will we just have to do a patch? I want a full download since I have a fast internet connection. Then I'd be able to delete/archive all my patch files.

I can't wait!:D

I will place it all in one package which could be from 3 to 5 megs.

The oobs are way less then this. It is the shp files and LBM updates that have increased size ;)

tracer -> (5/17/2003 10:12:09 PM)

B,
What is the earliest version that the patch can be applied to?

The oobs should work in 7.0 version on up.

They also appear to work well with Mega campaigns, campaigns and scenarios made in 6.5+ oobs/builds also. I saw no real issues with the early version's of game.

The patch should be applied to the current 7.1 build - 7.1 mech exe.
