Watch this first, a documentary on Operation Rolling Thunder. This helped to bring the scenario more to life for me and shows how much effort went into making this scenario. The historical accuracy as well as the complexity.

Its good to watch regardless but its highly recommended to watch it before you start diving into taking on Yankee Team imo.

Thank you, I'm glad you like it [:)]

I should mention as well that there will be lots more Vietnam content coming from me in the future - I've been doing lots of research recently for that.
And yes, the thing that drew me to Vietnam air warfare in the first place was just how complex that campaign was. On paper, it looks like it should be a walk in the park for the US, but reality is much more difficult - and the whole campaign was governed by lots of rules and requirements that aren't immediately obvious.

Also, I also reuploaded the scenario to the Steam Workshop today, since some users there were still having a problem with it.

Also, for those who like to go more in-depth - here is a full book, published by the Air Force itself in 1986, with a very thorough assessment of Rolling Thunder:
http://www.dtic.mil/get-tr-doc/pdf?AD=ADA215903 (pdf link from the DoD's Defence Technical Information Center)

quote:

The Vietnam War was many things to many people. It represented, among many other things, the clash between the views and objectives of American's civilian leadership and traditional military doctrine. It illustrated the difficulty in prosecuting a conventional war against an unconventional enemy and in waging a limited war against an enemy waging an essentially unlimited war. The Rolling Thunder campaign, the longest sustained aerial bombing campaign in history, was a microcosm of the problems the United States faced in the war as a whole. American air power doctrine was based on the concept of strategic bombardment, a concept based on two fundamental assumptions: that any American war would be waged to destroy the enemy's ability to wage modern warfare, and that any enemy the United States might engage would be a modern industrialized state. In Vietnam, neither assumption held true. The resulting aerial campaign, Rolling Thunder, was a far cry from that envisioned in plans developed before the American intervention. This study illustrates how American air power doctrine developed in a manner incompatible with the employment required over North Vietnam and how even the best military advice can be ignored if it does not conform to the objectives of the civilian leadership. Moreover, the study indicates that even if the military had been allowed to carry out its desired intensive bombing campaign, the results might not have changed. Finally, the study indicates the problems inherent in developing effective air power doctrine across the spectrum of modern conflict.

Am I crazy, or is Yankee Team 1966 missing from the community scenario pack? I remember it being there a while ago, but now that I am going to check it out, it isn't there.

Just got it on the Steam workshop though.

Actually, it wasn't in the community pack. Should be in the next release however!

By some strange coincidence, every time I tried to get it in the pack, I discovered some sort of glitch in it and had to take it down [:D] But it's all good now, and available on the workshop or from the mods/scenarios forum :)

Thanks for making this scenario i find the ones that happened in real life combined with watching a documentary makes it more interesting and appealing. How long did it take you to make Yankee Team? the briefing is very good and well detailed. I've only just barely started it. I paused it after the 10 seconds required to generate stuff and after between reading the briefing- or parts of it- numerous times and watching that documentary all i've done is start to arm some aircraft. So far i armed the one squadron of F-8C Crusaders with A/A loadouts (AIM-9C) and the two squadrons of A4-E's that can be loaded with Shrikes, you guessed it, loaded with shrikes. Just trying to think it through before i decide on the rest. Theres' quite a lot to consider. Like would it be worth going in with just SEAD or DEAD escorts? AAA i think will be the main threat so should go with DEAD in which case i'd have to arm those aircraft with shrikes and CBU's but havent decided yet.
