For TF movement between on-map and off-map, I've never figured out how to calculate the distance between the transit zone hex and the off-map base. For instance, if I decided to move a TF from Pearl Harbor to the East Coast via the Panama Canal, I can measure the distance from Pearl to the transit zone and I can look up the distance from Balboa to Eastern USA, but how do I calculate distance from the transit zone hex to Balboa (hence time in the holding box)?

It's probably painfully obvious, but I'm just missing it. I've read through the manual and used the search engine to no avail.

I think I just answered my own question.

1) Form a task force (in Pearl for this example)
2) Set a valid off-map objective (Balboa)
3) Read the # of hexes from the TF info screen
e.g. Moves(m/c) 3/2, Fuel-500/214(107)
So 107 hexes from Pearl to Balboa
4) Reset the objective to the transit zone hex in the path
5) Read the # of hexes from the TF info screen again (now 46)
6) Distance from transit zone hex to off-map location is the difference (61 hexes in this example)

Yes. Now it's obvious!

You can certainly use the TF destination info to get distances, but it also helps to have a chart for planning purposes:
