Skeletor -> Skeletor (Spain) vs Berserk (Russia) Oct 41 (5/14/2003 5:39:58 AM)

Elements of an encircled Russian army have broken loose and are attempting to fight their way back to friendly territory. A reserve force, consisting of Spanish volunteers of the Blue Division, is dispatched to destroy the Russians before they can escape.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

I've been lucky getting the East side of the map with two large hills that dominate whole the area.

No contact so far.

Berserk -> (5/15/2003 11:47:26 PM)

Standing in the valley looking at the hills.

Is there anything out there? Did the Spanish army desert ??

Two T-34s carrying infantry have been spoted advancing through the forest toward the center victory hexes. One of them takes an op fire hit from a PzIII on the northern hill and pops smoke.

Heavy mortars respond, chewing up the hill, but failing to hit anything.

Berserk -> (5/18/2003 4:40:50 AM)

Looks like the Spaniards have decided to sit on the hill frying Paella and smoking until the war blows over or someone foolishly ventures out into the open to be picked.

We'll have none of that --

Lets see if we can smoke them out

Skeletor -> (5/18/2003 7:05:30 AM)

In the south, two PzIIIs are suprised when six russian tanks burst out of the forest infront of them. Both sides fire wildly and the panzers are forced back. But not before destroying two enemy tanks and knocking the tracks off another.

More smoke rounds fall on the northern hill.

-Skeletor

Berserk -> (5/18/2003 10:04:30 PM)

The PZIIIs are engaged at close range, but the Russian armor proves unable to make a hit at only 50 meters. :confused:

The performance is totally unacceptable and a NKVD company has been dispatched from Moskva to investigate the morale. Unless the performance improves over the next turns, decimation may become an acceptable option to "boost" morale. :mad:

The nationalists continues their strategy of hanging around, waiting for the russians to make a run for it into the killing zone.

-- But what happened to the killing zone go :D

Skeletor -> (5/19/2003 1:00:31 AM)

The Russian attack in the south seems to have stopped for the moment.

-Skeletor

Berserk -> Tides are turning (5/19/2003 2:36:24 AM)

Sure looks like the threat of those NKVDs made some impact.

A Spanish thrust to the north of the battle field is intercepted and a PZIII must die and another take damage to the hull.

In the center, a Spanish squad is destroyd together with an AT squad whilst another AT squad flees into the woods.

Skeletor -> (5/20/2003 3:31:46 AM)

The tide is turning? HA!

Several more Russian tanks are destroyed, including a flame tank and one T-34. :D

Those pesky mortars also catch some 105mm counterbattery fire.

-Skeletor

Berserk -> (5/21/2003 1:51:21 AM)

The Spanish general must be highly congratulated on his ability to exploit the control of the high ground and the exceptional marksmanship of the German PZIIIs. :eek:

Under the cover of the high ground and forced by the smoke hanging in the hills, the German panzer pushes forward in the centre. It is now obvious that the Spanish army is actually composed of a strong german Armoured force, backed by the Luftwaffe and a handful of Spanish suicidal guys with anti-tank mines. :confused:

The Soviet force is splintered, its thrust in the south is eliminated and it is time to regroup. :(

Will the Germans and their Spanish hang-arounds manage to over run the Soviet force before those bastard NKVDs appear?

There is plenty of Spanish infantry out there. You just haven't seen it yet. :p

German armor advances in the south, killing another T-34 and one T-60. Other tanks, in the center and north, play target practice with some distant T-34s. But they fail to get any kills, even with top and rear hits. :(

I also see a couple KVs now. :eek: Hopefully thats all they have.

Berserk -> A shadow of red descents over the battle field (5/21/2003 4:26:18 AM)

Whilst the Germans Panzer mobs up the remaining splinters of the sothern attack force, it appears that the NKVD has now gotten morale under control.

The improvement in the Soviet markmanship is significant as 4 PZIIIs and a JP are destroyed and more left damaged or immobilised. :D :D

In the aftermath of the morning battle a flame tank is lost to a Spanish 105 direct hit. :(

Skeletor -> OK, maybe the tide IS turning.... (5/21/2003 5:31:24 AM)

Ouch! German armor pulling back all along the line.

-Skeletor

Berserk -> (5/22/2003 1:15:02 AM)

A break in the action.

Everything that could fleed. :D

Is this the last that we shall see of the Spanish and German forces?

I guess not :rolleyes:

Skeletor -> (5/22/2003 3:08:25 AM)

The Spaniards brace themselves for coming assault.

-Skeletor

Berserk -> (5/22/2003 3:54:38 AM)

Little activity - a quiet day to the music of artiellery

The Russian army regroups with a worry on what the day will bring once the Spaniards have eaten their paella. :confused:

Skeletor -> (5/24/2003 10:29:49 AM)

Spotted some shiny new T-34s arriving on the battlefield. Wish I hadn't used up all my airstrikes, there packed together just right.

Not much else going on at the moment.

-Skeletor

Berserk -> (5/25/2003 7:12:09 PM)

Having fought of a futile attack from a undergunned JPz the Soviet forces consentrates on mobbing up three gangs of infiltrators -one of which could have lived a quiet life had it not been for their disposition for having a bit too much Rijoca followed of loud boastings about their scouting capabilities :D

Where has all the Panzers gone :p

Skeletor -> (5/26/2003 7:14:23 AM)

Not much going on this turn.

The Russians have destroyed many of my tanks and put me on the defensive. Now though, they seem afraid to finish the job. Or is this a new tactic? Trying to bore the enemy to death maybe? :p

-Skeletor

Berserk -> (5/27/2003 3:22:15 AM)

The Soviet Armour continues to wear down the force of the Spaniards. :cool:

The once victorious Spanish army and its German allies appears to ahve lost leadership as another infiltrating squad is rounded up and inihilated in the South.

In the North an engineer squad is spotted and decimated, whilst in the center a tank crew, a AT-team and a JPz is destroied. :p

Nevertheless, Rioja influented bellow cries continue to taunt the Soviets from the hills in vain attempts to lure the Soviet Armor into yet another ambush! :rolleyes:

Skeletor -> (5/27/2003 6:44:00 AM)

Got a couple T-60s in the north and shot up some Guard infantry.:)

I can see lots of other tanks moving around out there. This battle will probably be decided in the next for or five turns.

-Skeletor

Berserk -> (5/27/2003 1:36:31 PM)

Gee

Does that mean that the Spanish sissyboys are coming out of their hiding -- or are they just going to surrender? :D :D

What it means is that I thought the Russians were about to quit fooling around and attack. :rolleyes:

-Skeletor

Berserk -> (5/28/2003 2:06:45 AM)

Short range tank combat erupts with out much to show for it as the Soviet forces pushes on into the Spanish lines.

The situation is set for showdown!

Skeletor -> (5/30/2003 1:26:13 AM)

A couple T-34s and one KV are pushing toward my rear victory hexes. As they get close to my line they take some hits and pop smoke.

A fleeing engineer unit is shot at by another group of tanks building up on the main road.

-Skeletor

Berserk -> The Spaniards are pushed back (5/30/2003 3:18:07 AM)

Following an intense push by th Sopviets on the Spanish centre line, it gives in and the Spaniards flees living their mines behind.

:D

Casualties are low, but an isolated PzIII pays the prize of hanging behind. The crews get out, but does not make it back to Berlin. ;)

AT fire Centre snd South is a menance to the Soviets. :mad:

Berserk -> Bring out the Vodka! Lets celebrate (5/30/2003 5:06:30 PM)

The Soviet armour push to the Center and North of the battlefield has totally crushed the morale of the combined Spanish and German forces! :D :D

Flagging a white banner and hands in the air the shattered Axis forces halts their fleeing. :(

Will the Soviet forces have mercy on their hated enemies?

As this is their Commander Berserk's first ever action in the battlefield ;) he desides valliantly that he has picked enough bones today and rules that all captured enemies the shall be given the choise between either joining a Soviet punishment battalion or leave their skelletons on the battlefield. :eek: :D
