Lictuel -> VP display problem (8/18/2017 8:52:17 AM)

In a currently running multiplayer game I just encountered a strange display issue with regards to VP.
In the multiplayer menu the turn vp and game vp a) dont line up with the real values b) really make no sense.

I attached a screenshot showing the multiplayer lobby and the in game values, it is a server game and I'll leave the game like this for a while in case someone wants to have a look at the save.

Ok, this is not a good sign. I went to get your latest file, but when I double clicked on your game, I got the window where I can usually download saves, but the window was blank (aside from the game ID number at the top). So I can't download your files. I didn't have this problem with any other game on the server, and I was able to download another 4th Supreme Command game from the server just fine. Even if I was able to download the file, I wouldn't be able to see your lobby screen, but at least would be able to see your in game values. You may have a corrupted game file of some kind. Did you just notice this problem? Was it working ok before the latest turn?

Kronolog -> RE: VP display problem (8/18/2017 5:30:55 PM)

I'm the Allied player in this game, and during my latest turn I had some problems with the air phase-resolution: the calculation took much more time than it had during previous turns, and when the calculation was complete I got an error message (It's possible that the message contained the number 99 or -99, but I can't recall exactly what it said). After that however, everything went back to normal: my air directives had been executed and I had no issues during the ground combat phase, nor when ending my turn. I've not experienced any technical issues during the previous turns in this game.

Also, in the multiplayer lobby the turn VP number is different for me.

Game worked fine on my last turn, no errors or anything. Is there a possibility of restoring the save or anything?
As far as I can see in game the turn is fine at a first shallow glance

Joel Billings -> RE: VP display problem (8/19/2017 12:27:27 AM)

I'll have to contact Matrix as I cannot access any of the controls that would allow me to download saves or restore an old game. Not likely to hear anything until next week.

VPaulus -> RE: VP display problem (8/19/2017 8:09:23 AM)

I can restore the game to the previous turn. Just open a helpdesk ticket, stating the name of the game, scenario and both players PBEM usernames.

zakblood -> RE: VP display problem (8/19/2017 8:26:55 AM)

you see, some staff never stop working ^^

Lictuel -> RE: VP display problem (8/19/2017 2:42:38 PM)

created a ticket

Lictuel -> RE: VP display problem (8/19/2017 8:46:40 PM)

Support messaged me that the turn was reset, still looking funky to me though. Asked Kronolog to have a look as well

Kronolog -> RE: VP display problem (8/19/2017 9:37:15 PM)

The aformentioned problem still presists: the turn number in the lobby is still wrong before and after I replayed the turn. The turn was only reset to my ground phase, but I don't know if that is by design or not. There were no problems with playing or uploading the turn, but it wasn't possible to access the game options screen.

VPaulus -> RE: VP display problem (8/19/2017 10:33:02 PM)

Then in this case only Joel can help you. But you'll have to wait until some of our staff comes from holiday.

Lictuel -> RE: VP display problem (8/20/2017 6:33:59 AM)

That is fine for me, do I have to update the support ticket in any way then?

Joel Billings -> RE: VP display problem (8/21/2017 7:48:06 PM)

For whatever reason, I still cannot access any of the files for this game (and only this game). I will report the bug to our programmer, but it's harder to deal with without a save (although in this case since we can't see the lobby when loading the save, it's not actually going to show us the bug).

Is anyone else seeing this issue with the VPs in the lobby not agreeing with VPs in the game? Have you had this problem with any other MP game?

Lictuel -> RE: VP display problem (8/23/2017 6:20:27 AM)

I haven't seen that problem with any other game but this is currently my only running game anyway.
I guess we will have to put the game on hiatus for now then?

Helpless -> RE: VP display problem (8/23/2017 6:46:36 AM)

It doesn't display any data for me for this particular game when I'm trying to access it from the server frontend console, so I can't check portion of data responsible for the VP display.

I suppose the game itself is ok, since you can download the save and everything looks ok there. Display issue reported is outside of the game save. Theoretically you should be able to keep playing.

I wrote a message to the PBEM++ server admin to check it from backend.

Lictuel -> RE: VP display problem (8/23/2017 10:49:08 AM)

Okay then I will continue the game, thanks

Helpless -> RE: VP display problem (8/28/2017 12:58:25 PM)

Finally Slitherine admins fixed the issue and I'm able to read server game data.

Scenario data passed with last 4 player messages, so they can influence parsing. I've copied all the data and able to pass it normally. However I see that you are using non-ascii characters (umlauts). System doesn't support them and this could cause an issue (I was able to replicate it).

Are you able to see all scenario data correctly right now? Just in case I've cleared non-ascii character I found.

Everything works fine for me now. Thanks for the help!

I guess I'm to blame: I used an umlaut (ä) in a message. I didn't know that it could cause problems. I'll refrain from using them from now on.
