ZoroastroBR -> [Resolved] Help with upgrading scenario DB (8/26/2017 9:55:42 PM)

Hey guys, I'm trying to update Don of a New Era to use A/C damage. When I try to do a DB update to latest DB (467), the auto DB updater selects DB3K 441, which is older than the scenario's original DB (445). So my question is, how do I tell the DB updater to update to 467 (or how do I manually select 467 as the DB that I want to upgrade to)?

If I use 441, I need to delete a few units from the scenario that were added in 445...

Thanks.

ZoroastroBR -> RE: Help with upgrading scenario DB (8/26/2017 10:02:14 PM)

I did a test using a blank scenario and everytime I want to upgrade from one DB to another, the game (DB upgrade) selects DB3K_441 as the "new DB" and not the actual latest DB (467). Why is that?

ZoroastroBR -> RE: Help with upgrading scenario DB (8/26/2017 10:11:20 PM)

Apparently DB 441 is the scenario's "underlying DB". How do I change that?

thewood1 -> RE: Help with upgrading scenario DB (8/26/2017 10:54:40 PM)

Just making sure you know how to do a rebuild. I don't thin just selecting a db in the editor is going to work. Did you follow the instructions in manual starting on page 78?

Randomizer -> RE: Help with upgrading scenario DB (8/26/2017 11:00:28 PM)

I just executed a deep rebuild of "Don of a New Era" and the default database for the rebuild was DB-3K 467, which is the latest version. So it would appear that your difficulties are probably a user issue.

Here is the screen I get when i try to upgrade the DB.

I loaded the scenario in the editor, selected Editor, Database, Upgrade scenario to latest DB version.

This screen opened and the default DB is the 441.

thewood1 -> RE: Help with upgrading scenario DB (8/26/2017 11:53:16 PM)

Did you actually push the button to upgrade and let it go through the upgrade?

thewood1 -> RE: Help with upgrading scenario DB (8/26/2017 11:55:26 PM)

btw, complex scenarios like that that come with an ini file...I always do a deep rebuild.

I forgot to add, I had no issues just doing a simple upgrade and rebuild on that scenario.

ZoroastroBR -> RE: Help with upgrading scenario DB (8/27/2017 12:00:47 AM)

I did push the button to upgrade. It downgrades to 441 (from 445). Used the force-rebuild and apply ini file. Also tried not using force-rebuild or the ini file. I get a bunch of errors for units that can't be loaded by the new database is 441.

ZoroastroBR -> RE: Help with upgrading scenario DB (8/27/2017 12:02:01 AM)

I think there is a game option to select the default database. I just can't find it. Looked at all the menus and in the game files.

thewood1 -> RE: Help with upgrading scenario DB (8/27/2017 12:02:31 AM)

You are doing something very wrong. I have done it three times now with no issues. If you have been re-rebuilding it without the ini files, that for one will screw things up. Are you keeping backups of the scenario.

thewood1 -> RE: Help with upgrading scenario DB (8/27/2017 12:03:55 AM)

My suggestion is get the original scenario file and read through the manual. The rebuild it with the ini file selected. Don't screw around with just changing the db or doing a shallow rebuild.

ZoroastroBR -> RE: Help with upgrading scenario DB (8/27/2017 12:12:37 AM)

I did read the manual. Every time I try to change any scenario the default DB to migrate to is 441.

I tried doing a migration for a Cold War DB. When I load a scenario from Northern Inferno I get DB CWDB 439 as the default one, istead of CWDB 467.

The migration windows has a title which says to which DB you are updating (you can see in the picture I attached before). The name I get is "Scenario Migration (Selected DB: DB3K_441.db3)".

I didn't select that DB... How do I even select a DB to migrate to???

ZoroastroBR -> RE: Help with upgrading scenario DB (8/27/2017 12:23:14 AM)

Even if I have an empty scenario "Create New Blank Scenario", go to Editor, Database, hit the Upgrade scenario to latest database, says that "You are already using the latest version of the scenario's underlying DB". Then I go to "Change database" and the selected DB is 441.

I can upgrade any scenario that has a DB that is older than 441, but I can't move to any of the newer ones... So weird!

ZoroastroBR -> RE: Help with upgrading scenario DB (8/27/2017 12:28:21 AM)

So I went to "D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Command Modern Air Naval Operations\DB" and deleted DB3K_441.db3.

Now the default DB when I try to migrate a scenario is DB 428....

Feel like deleting all the other DBs and leaving just the latest one...

michaelm75au -> RE: Help with upgrading scenario DB (8/27/2017 12:53:52 AM)

Are you on the latest build?

thewood1 -> RE: Help with upgrading scenario DB (8/27/2017 1:01:07 AM)

Sure sounds like he hasn't upgraded the game.

ZoroastroBR -> RE: Help with upgrading scenario DB (8/27/2017 1:04:21 AM)

Yes. I just did a clean install.

Now the default DB to migrate is 391... The first DB....

I read the manual over and over and I can't find a place to select which DB the game should migrate to.

michaelm75au -> RE: Help with upgrading scenario DB (8/27/2017 1:04:29 AM)

Build 936.12 (latest)
in the folder "D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Command Modern Air Naval Operations\DB", there is a file 'DBInfo.dat'. This contains the DB information index. The date should be the latest (ie above that of the databases)

How do i open that file to see what's inside?

Edit: The date is the same since I just did a clean install.

michaelm75au -> RE: Help with upgrading scenario DB (8/27/2017 1:31:25 AM)

The file is not editable.
So you have the date of 31 May 2017 on the info file, and it is above database 467?

michaelm75au -> RE: Help with upgrading scenario DB (8/27/2017 1:44:40 AM)

I just tried to update by Don scenario and it showed the correct DB. I am using the Matrix version, not Steam.
Tried Steam and it also behaves correctly. Not sure why you can't upgrade if all the files are in place

thewood1 -> RE: Help with upgrading scenario DB (8/27/2017 1:46:40 AM)

Run the game and the version of the game should be in the upper left...like in the above picture.

Thank you!!!!!!!! [&o][&o][&o]

Figured it out.

I have the Steam version.

When the game says "latest version" it really mean latest version, as in download date and time. After this clean install, the "latest" one was DB 391 (Steam downloaded that file last). So I deleted both DB3K_467.db3 and CWDB_467.db3 and then validated my files via Steam Validation mechanism. It acquired both files and now the game uses DB 467 as the latest database.

I kept thinking that "latest" meant "highest number".

Maybe the devs could update the system so that the game looks for "latest name", or update the installation process for Steam so that it installs the DBs in the right order.

Thank you everyone for helping me out in this. You guys are great [:D][:D][:D]

michaelm75au -> RE: Help with upgrading scenario DB (8/27/2017 2:36:14 AM)

Good to see it is working now. Happy trails ...

thewood1 -> RE: Help with upgrading scenario DB (8/27/2017 12:32:44 PM)

I'm still not sure why, when doing a clean install, your dbs were messed up.

Just as an update, this is still the case for the Steam version of CMO.

Twistedpretzel -> RE: Help with upgrading scenario DB (10/3/2020 9:32:06 PM)

Still occurring.
