Telemecus -> 2x3+ 025-037 Axis Team Allocations (3/7/2020 10:48:34 AM)

For information only - attached team allocations for turns 25-37

Includes boundary maps until lictuel led the anti-boundary map ground commanders revolt :)

Beria -> 2x3+ 025-037 Soviet Team Allocations (3/7/2020 11:02:32 AM)

The Soviet side never really has had a formalised process of allocations. Perhaps we should make one?

We certainly could have avoided a lot of confusion and lots opportunities at times.

Looking through the team channels you can see players trying to sort it out bilaterally eventually. We even got to our own ideas of "loan" units between commands which is the Axis difference between control and command.

Darojax, Soviet Centre Commander
I dont even remember which ones were part of center and which ones were part of south
I am trusting you to do the remembering XD
And that army is on loan

Mamluke, Soviet South Commander
you should control 100% the corps next turn but the army should still fallow my orders for now

Darojax, Soviet Centre Commander
?

Mamluke, Soviet South Commander
you should move the cav corps on your own, but the 21st army should stay in my command (for now)

Darojax, Soviet Centre Commander
Im not following.
Are you talking about the cav corps in the 21st army?

Mamluke, Soviet South Commander
yes

Darojax, Soviet Centre Commander
Why?

Many times the Soviet team did need to sort out some way of allocating rail cap especially

quote:

Mamluke, Soviet South Commander
not really, it's pretty much a case of "use it or lose it"
I've been using excess rail to evacuate Heavy Industry and the like in Venerable areas(edited)
but then Neo just puts all those 20% divisions on rail and keeps the trains busy XD
...
most of the rail was occupied thanks to hundreds o 20% rail divisions being on trains.

Beria -> 2x3+ 025-037 Soviet Offensive Plans (3/7/2020 11:11:08 AM)

T025-037 Soviet Offensive Plans

quote:

Soviet Supreme Commander
I want each commander to prepare an offensive plan with these objectives in mind, and then sending me those plans trough PM ( you can make more than one). I will consult these plan, make modification and print the final version into your PMs. ( modification may or may not be made to your plans )

North
Priority #1 : -retaking Leningrad.
Second Objective -Establishing a connection with Leningrad and Novgorod.
Bonus Objective -Establish connection with Central Front at Lake Ilmen.

Central

Priority #1 : - Retaking Moscow
Secondary Objective - Establishing a connection with Northern Front at Lake Ilmen.
Bonus Objective - The capture of Tula and possible expansion of the frontline to Orel.

South

Priority #1 - Opening the pocket if it is still alive by the time of the Offensive is your top priority.
Second Objective - Establishing a stable frontline from Kursk - Kharkov - Stalino
Bonus Objective - Take the frontline a step further to Kursk - Kharkov - Dnepropetrovsk
Bonus Objective - Connect with Central Front.
Bonus Objective - Push from Sevastopol front to Zaporhozye

I know these objectives might be hard to reach. Or maybe impossible. But those are it. Make the best of it. I expect those plans to be delivered before November. I also expect you Marshals to prepare your troops and put them in position. You have about a month or two before the operation start. This mean that Southern Front Marshall should do everything in his possible to keep the pocket alive. Anything he needs to keep it alive will be given to him. I want that pocket to survive !

As mention before, you can make multiple plans, and I might make changes to your plans. I might also do my own plans if I find the time.

That is all Commanders. Dismiss.

quote:

Mamluke, Soviet South Commander
Stalin is WAY to optimistic

Supreme suggests actually playing another wargame to prepare for this one!

quote:

Soviet Supreme Commander
And yes the war game is for another PBEM about the winter offensive. But it's only if people are not familiar with the winter offensive and to add some role play factor. Not obligatory. I though it was a cool PM to send. As generals would have received that kind of message

Telemecus -> RE: 2x3+ 025-037 Blizzard (3/7/2020 3:16:54 PM)

We said we would cover the Blizzard period by showing what happened in one area for all the turns and then go on to the next area. We will start with the Crimea and work our way upwards.

Beria -> 2x3+ 025-037 Crimea (3/7/2020 3:28:27 PM)

T025-028 Crimea

quote:

Axis Air Commander
they are pushing hard in the Crimea though
It looks like the Soviets are building up in the Crimea too.

quote:

Axis South Commander
Crimea is more stable then expected
I should be able to rest the motorized for a bit
Going to use some support units to help the defense. MG and Arty...
Its the forts. If he would use some of those big howitzers the soviets got... he could drop the fort
He could use the brigade soaking attacks to get it done...
The Rumanians are still in decent shape...
They'll break in January though 50% TOE...
I see a cav corps that wants to break out there

quote:

Soviet South Commander
tried to break the west of crimea again - again failed

quote:

Soviet Centre Commander
No luck against the romanians eh?
Looks like the "soft underbelly" to me
Next turn!

quote:

Soviet South Commander
Crimea you mean? the level 2 forts are way stronger then they look

quote:

amazingly in Crimea
I was sure they would drop
...will need Germans some time there

quote:

quote:

quote:

quote:

quote:

Soviet South Commander
I want to ask the Axis team, what do you think of the "kamikazes" attacks in the Crimea, are you guys worried about then?

Axis South Commander
The soaking attacks?
Worried or unhappy?
Think it fits Soviet doctrine
So i dont mind them

Soviet South Commander
So you were just unhappy?

Axis South Commander
No, neither. If you break through ill have to deal with it

Soviet South Commander
considering I was killing like 250 Romanians per attack, rising fatigue (I would think) and depleting ammunition for little casualties. I would think you would be more worried well anyway, for next turn, you WILL have something to worry about

[image]local://upfiles/56450/4A05D52E5E4347CB975D4DDE6E9CF33D.jpg[/image]

quote:

Axis South Commander
~Sweet news from the Crimean front as well, was able to finally get breakthrough in the swamp hex of all places.
the Kamikaze tactics finally paid off, but it came down mostly that it was just 2 Romanian divisions instead of 3 in the hex
Now, if the Axis doesn't pull back, I can get a chance to encircle those Romanians! the Crimea just became a Bonified active front
pity I don't have many units to send over, I will try to get some rifle brigades there maybe.
But the main point here is to create a distraction and to be a training ground for Guards.

thankfully, I have been cautious, my aim on this small front is to:

1 - train Guards, (beating up Romanians is so nice)

2 - draw in enemy attention and reinforcements.

if they need 3 motorize divisions to contain me. I'm already doing a good job :), I will make sure that I'm NOT venerable to encirclement.

T032 Axis Crimea

timmyab takes over the South Axis command this turn and finds the Crimea breakout turned into a sort of phoney war stalemte. The Soviet side does not have the forces to exploit a breakout and stay close to the peninsula to avoid being cut off while Axis forces just screen from a distance.

T037 Soviet Crimea

By the end you would not have known there had been a blizzard in Crimea. To be fair there were other more important sectors that ended up getting the sexy units.

Telemecus -> RE: 2x3+ 025-037 Crimea (3/9/2020 6:18:54 PM)

I have to give credit to TunganNinja as our final south Axis commander during the Blizzard to bring us right back to where we started!

Prior to the blizzard we had a big team debate about the use of minor allies. I was all for their use (if used properly) and KenchiSulla was very apprehensive. We brought him round. But by the time of the blizzard the discussion had seemed to turn 180 degrees with the Crimea guarded only by Rumanians. I had visions of the Crimea being burst open and Soviet cavalry pouring into our rear wrecking our rail lines and all sorts of other calamities. KenchiSulla was the picture of calm. And he was right, the Soviet offensive never really happened. So it meant I had egg on my face and had to rip up my playbook! [:D]

That Rumanians alone were able to mount a hard defence against the Soviet forces in Crimea without giving up a hex for one month of blizzard means I have to pay them a new respect. And yes eventually some Germans were brought in. But at a much later time when other areas had calmed down. To be fair to the Soviet side they had other more interesting prospects elsewhere. And they did get their wins to credit them with some more guards promotions. On the loss of many Rumanians in the place of Germans dieing in the blizzard, being blood thirsty and ruthless, I can say that is a sacrifice I was more than happy for them to make! [:D]

Beria -> 2x3+ 025-037 Blizzard Mobility (3/12/2020 11:04:21 AM)

The soviet team were quite surprised by how non mobile they actually were during the blizzard

quote:

Darojax, Soviet Centre Commander
Btw, im thinking it is going to be very hard for us to capitalize on any breaches in the enemy lines. We dont have any motorized units to push through! Whenever we make a breach the germans have plenty of time to clog it. : )

quote:

Mamluke, Soviet South Commander
that is just the reality, this is why I push for Cavalry, 15-21 MP can help alot

quote:

Darojax, Soviet Centre Commander
Its going to be a 1 or max 2 hex advance every turn for us....

quote:

Mamluke, Soviet South Commander
yeah, 3 hex advance at best in weak areas, but it does allows to stabilized the front better.
Blizzard Mobility just sucks

quote:

Darojax, Soviet Centre Commander
And here I was thinking we were going to take back the red square!
...but our glorious leader said...

Beria -> 2x3+ 025-037 Mius (3/12/2020 11:18:57 AM)

T025-037 Sov Mius Plans

quote:

Neogodhobo, Soviet Supreme Commander
Also, operation no one left behind will have to be drastically changed in light of recent event

Moving on to the Mius front. The Soviet team finds that they have to drastically change their plans in the light of recent events. Namely the axis surrounding and destroying the units earmarked for the offensive during snow!

quote:

Mamluke, Soviet South Commander
ho, my original plans will have to be adjusted, the Germans have the 1st and 4th Mountain division near Rostov, along with 2 Light infantry + Axis allies Mountain specialist. these are the worst units to be in my area[
in other words, the pressure to Kharkov will be weaken, I rather not focus on the Rostov Axis if the enemy insist on defending the Rostov-Donets area with a lot of Mountain units..

Telemecus -> RE: 2x3+ 025-037 Mius (3/12/2020 11:37:06 AM)

T025 Axis Mius

And too true! Already on turn 25 the collection of mountain units there are retaking ground captured in the blizzard!

Beria -> RE: 2x3+ 025-037 Mius (3/12/2020 12:21:25 PM)

T025 Sov

I guess the mountain units can help bolster the weaker southern allied units. But they seem to be doing an OK job at the start of the blizzard anyway.

[image]local://upfiles/56450/E9312E119EFB4B67B8B0A8ECF6D1D6FA.jpg[/image]

quote:

Telemecus to KenchiSulla, Axis South Commander

While it is true that using armies of Rumanians would mean they just get routed and leave huge gaps there are good ways to use them nevertheless

i) Mountain units are still very good - probably know that already
ii) Cavalry units are very good behind the front line as reserve activators, If you make sure they have the full MPs they will usually activate once a turn and provide that little extra CV to tip the balance of battles.
iii) Allied infantry can be used simply as a way to eat up MPs and get routed away - but you still need a German infantry line between or behind them
iv) stacked with German units
vi) digging in lines to which the front line will fallback on
vii) as reargruards you do not mind losing - and that Soviets do not want to spend time encircling and forcing to surrender
viii) As dummy units to get the SUs - you do not care about their CV but they get another HQ in on a battle with all of their artillery and other SUs added to it. Battle penalties apply only to CVs, not disruption by artillery!

it is worth remembering that morale penalties from first blizzard do not apply if morale is less then 55 - which is most of your allies. You would rather see a Rumanian than a German die, so let them take the attrition. And they will have all summer to recover while in garrisons then.

Key to this though is you mix them up with Germans. Put allied units into German HQs, and German units into allied HQs. Where they do get routed away they can then just be rested in the rear for a couple of turns before being fit to come back.

T026 Axis Jodl

Jodl appointed to head AGS. He seems to not be a very popular choice with many players ....

But as KenchiSulla tested for this game that not only does the range penalty not apply to morale but niether does the command penalty. In which case, as AGS has not been split, it makes sense to give them a leader with good morale that can be spread over all those units. Plus as head of an army group will stop him being appointed head of an army where his other stats matter more!
