Hi,

I first got into SC with WWII Pacific Theater (PT). Really enjoyed it and have had a fondness for that theatre since. Global Conflict Gold was a great addition too. SC has gone through several iterations since and I would love to see the PT campaign played out using the new engine. I think the new mechanics around naval warfare would make it far more intriguing (and maybe a little less punishing) than it already is.

To that end I have been very slowly creating a PT mod of the original campaign. I basically have both the PT editor and SCWWII editor open simultaneously and am "copying and pasting". To that end I have run in to one minor/major barrier in that there is a lack of tropical terrain and far east styled resources. I am going to continue but I was wondering if there was any plans to update the editor to include those items?

Cheers

I cannot help you, but... thank you for your service. [8D]

I think some improvements to to how navies are handled might be required for a Pacific War version, though how it works now is better than when SCWiE was first released.

Carrier warfare would work as it is

The rule book is very poorly written. I am, after many games, still unsure of how to successfully employ carriers. Would be great if rules were clarified and perhaps some diagrams were provided.

Also there is going to be needed a B29 unit with additional range. And possibly something done in 44 to increase range of fighters.

I played a lot of SC2 Assault on Democracy and I found that action in the Pacific Theater had good and bad points. There were nice cat-and-mouse-and cat battles involving carriers. But in my experience, there was never much of an imperative for the Allies to do any kind of "island-hopping" campaign, probably because of the map scale. As long as the Allies held on to New Guinea, Australia, and Hawaii there was little point in fighting for any of the other islands.

Having hexes that cover fewer klicks would change that, in a good way, but I think the rules would need to be tinkered with to reflect the paramount importance of spotting and recon in the Pacific

Maybe add a Coastal Watch DE that would allow occupied islands extended spotting ranges. Maybe add a few naval air recon units--little or no attack capability, but an expanded spotting radius. That would help make islands worth fighting for.

Perhaps, though the US and Japanese carriers should probably have a longer range that in SCWiE

Thanks for the feedback. If I ever get it done your input will be appreciated.

Tarfman, thanks for even thinking about trying this. A Pacific Theater version with this game engine at a larger map scale (i.e. fewer kilometers per hex) than AoD could be lots of fun.

Perhaps if small islands where worked into the supply system might be an idea...the farther away a ship is from a supply base/Island it gets affected

Matrix/Fury.

Your silence is informative..... ;)

Hi Tarfman,

At the moment there are no plans to expand that part of the Editor as these slots were put in place for future expansion.

The idea behind adding these slots was so that it would make things that much easier to move Mods such as yours forward with new games using this engine, i.e. something that was very difficult to do in the past.

But that being said, I am interested in what you are working on and if you might have some time to discuss further, could you please send me an email at support@furysoftware.com?

Thanks,
Hubert

Hi Hubert,

Thanks for the response. I sent an email as requested.
