stefankollers -> First time I have seen this (9/11/2017 9:28:04 AM)

Playing the AI on normal settings. During the 1941 Blizzard the AI did a very sneaky trick. I had Leningrad sealed from the west. Narva, Peskov, Novgorod. Unfortunately I didn't have Tallinin occupied, although had captured it earlier in the game, also the crossing point linkig the two lakes was not guarded. Anyway either by seabourne invasion or the soviets "Ghosted" through my positions.

The first I knew something was wrong was a whole stream of Soviet units behind my lines heading for Riga. Never seen anything happen like this before. Does the AI need to have a un-guarded port to mount a seabourne invasion or can it land on any coastal hex ?

I was enjoying the game upto that point, anyway seeing the Soviets streaming towards Riga I felt it was game over. I'm not the best of players having not taken Moscow ect, in fact I had taken D-TOWN and in the centre Vyasma and
just was a few hexes of Leningrad. I should point out I didn't use HQ BUILD UP AT all "just my choice". I felt it more realistic,I doubt I would have done mch better with it on. Anyway thanks for reading any advice would be most welcome. I enjoy playing the game and really play for the fun of it.

Easy solution is SEC regiment in Tallinin, 2 such in Riga.

AI can use coastal beachheads but a port allows more, exploitation of rail net, etc.

Have never seen it myself, but then I follow above advice.

Thank's for the advice. I am actually playing my own scenario, called an "Alternative Campaign". Starting from the 1941 start line, but assumes the Germans didn't get involved in a North African Campaign, also uses more forces which were stationed in the west "Army Group H" under Rommel. This is stationed in the south also attached a couple more German Panzer Divisions under General Mantuefell. This removes the Italian contribution as The Italians don't participate in the Russian Campaign, in this fictious "What if Campaign"

I have noticed the AI does tend to move massive amounts of units all over the place, I have read on other posts it cheats ? Anyway having fun, next time I will cover the Ports, as I said I did capture Tallanin early on, but this game gives the Player so much to do, usually I forget to move the Finns or repair rail line. I should take my time more.

Please be advised that the AI cheats. It can move units through lakes, no go barriers and easily out of your zones of control.

When I first saw this I rolled back the game, changed the AI to human and tried to replicate what the AI did. Not a snow flakes chance in hell.

Then again it continually leaves HQs and Airbases well forward and unguarded so take the good with the bad.

Yes, AI has various weaknesses, on the other hand it can sometimes do things human player may not, to offset them.
