I shut down all the shipbuilding past June of '45 because I don't think the war is going to last all that long.
I'm afraid I'm going to crash the economy and the war effort will collapse. I'm of course watching it and don't
WANT it to crash but the ships are smaller capacity than I'm used to and that is offset by having a lot more of
them.

I'm finding that it's a problem trying to memorize the new base names. Babeldoab is now Koror and that's just
an example of what's going on around the map. I have no idea why the names were changed but it's turning into
a minor hassle.

Here's some of the information from the aircraft and engines display. I'm going to compare the numbers from the
display I got from last turn and see which way the numbers are changing. And they should be changing. I'm aiming
for about 100 planes in the pools for all my important aircraft types.

Here's the ships that got sunk on 7Dec: The game engine is assuming a lot for some of those ships.

Wait, you lost two xAKLs to CD guns on Yangtze? How did that happen?

Here's the battle in question. I guess I must have skipped it when I was going over the battles that heppened
in the above litany. I expect them all to be gone soon. I have no PB's nearby so help isn't going to get
there in time to save their bacon. I'm trying to disband them in a nearby port, that might help. This situation
is playing itself out in two other places on the rivers of China. I actually need combatants on the river.
Unheard of before.

I think I may have also skipped this air strike on Wake. I did this in the morning hours just as the sun was
rising in the east and attacked from the east and got some good hits and only one loss.

larryfulkerson -> RE: RHS II scen 129 GP and me (9/23/2017 8:48:24 PM)

Here's what it looks like at the airfield at Takao right now. There's over 500 planes parked at this field and
only about 26 of them are being repaired....everybody else is moving the sortie totals upward. I've given drop
tanks to the Zeros because I like it how they can reach just about anywhere important right now and be there
quickly, relatively speaking. I'm going to do some more sweeps one more time to clear out the pipes and then
move the fighters to the Singapore effort. That and the Miri area.

larryfulkerson -> RE: RHS II scen 129 GP and me (9/23/2017 9:07:52 PM)

I've been monkey-ing around with this particular squadron at Takao and trying to make a sweeping squadron with it
and this is the best I can do so far with the pilots available. It's still "escort" quality I think. Not enough
TRACOM-qualified pilots to make a good sweeping squadron really. I'll try again.

Lowpe -> RE: RHS II scen 129 GP and me (9/23/2017 9:12:54 PM)

Sweeping squadron should be your largest possible sentai of Zeroes. Air leader definitely should have well over 60 Air skill, high inspiration, leadership. Numbers mean a lot.

You want the pilots to have 70/70 air/def and as high experience as possible.

I'm working on such a squadron right now. I've moved about a dozen high quality pilots into TRACOM
and I'm going through the squadrons now looking for the other TRACOM-quality pilots there might be
mostly in the fighter and bomber squadrons right now. I've noticed that I don't have any transport
pilots in the reserve so I'll have to cull the transport training squadrons for those. If it's not
one thing it's another just now.

Yeah, idealy all TRACOM-quality would be good but hard to come by in the early war years. I'm trying
to rotate the squadrons so the morale stays high and they can get some training time in while they
are out of combat for a couple of days. I'm told that combat is the place to build experience time
but I've got pilots with an experience level of 6, yeah, I found one. I've got him safely in the
reserve. Everytime I ask for reserve pilots I get him, he's listed at the bottom and I get rid of
him again. I'm going to have to find a way to retire that bad boy.

larryfulkerson -> RE: RHS II scen 129 GP and me (9/23/2017 10:09:21 PM)

Here's a list of all the pilots in TRACOM....this is the best. I've been looking for these guys and there may be
more out there in the field yet somewhere. I'll keep looking. I don't have but one Patrol pilot in the
reserve. I'll have to train some more.

In the RHS world the Japs already own Wallis Island and as part of my effort to isolate OZ from the west coast
I've decided to beef up Wallis and build it into a staging point for further adventures. That means expansion
of the airfield and port and that means supplies. And I happen to notice that it's got some RES and an LI at
Wallis and I looked it up on the industry screen that the LI takes 12 RES per turn to operate so there's no time
to waste getting some more RES to him. I'll see if I can't find a good garrison for this place while the
landing party goes off to further adventures.

FlyByKnight -> RE: RHS II scen 129 GP and me (9/23/2017 10:42:47 PM)

Pago Pago is already garrisoned by 2 or 3 marine units.

larryfulkerson -> RE: RHS II scen 129 GP and me (9/23/2017 10:44:44 PM)

I captured Bataan Island last night and it's got a functioning airfield and port but it's got no AF people to
service the planes. Plus, it's running low on RES and has enough for only about 7 days. And it needs some
supply to expand the facilities. Some engineers along with the AF guys would be nice. I'll see if those
things are available at Pescadores or maybe Takao or somewhere.

That sounds like more than I have available at Wallis. Only units there are garrison quality

of only 4 squads per unit. The kinds of people that answer the phone at the gate. I'm going

to need an infusion of troops from afar it seems. I've just now started looking into it. I

may have to go all the way to Tokyo to find the troops. That's been a problem for me. The

names of some of the cities have changed to what they were during the war, presumably, at any

rate they have changed and I'm experiencing a learning curve to try to find any place. Except

for about 1/3 of them that didn't change. And that estimate might be high but it feels like

a chore that I don't need right now. Brian is up and awake and alive and I've promised him I'd

get some moves back to him by Sunday morning. He gets up about 6:30 - 7:00 his time which is

about 3:30 or so my time so I have between now and Sunday morning about 12 hours, to produce

some moves. Not that we're in a hurry and not that I have all that much to do for my moves it's

just a deadline I'd like to keep if possible. I'm posting in this AAR as I go so that slows

things down remarkably. But I like doing it for you guys. For me too, to refer to some of the

pictures in the past, like aircraft and engines that I need to compare from a week ago, etc.

larryfulkerson -> RE: RHS II scen 129 GP and me (9/23/2017 11:10:38 PM)

TF 151 is a single transport ship, on fire, coasting along trying to make it to the nearest friendly port and
that seems to be Bataan Island and the ship is a wreck and needs a lot of yard time....Bataan Island is just
a place to dock to help put out the fire.

The other damaged ships are accounted for and I have plans for each of them. I'm on top of things temporarily.
It's now 16:09 and I need to look at the garrison levels in China, get the overages moving, gather up some
credible force somewhere.

Now that Patani has it's own organic CAP I'm going to move the carriers away from shore and do some LRCAP over
Kota Bharu for a while. I'm expecting attacks from Singapore's direction and I'm preparing for just about
anyting. The BB's bombarded Kota Bharu one time last night and they have shells enough to do it again but I'm
holding back in case there's a lurking Allied SCTF nearby. I put TT's into Repulse and POW so I'm guessing
they are both in the yards now. Maybe not, maybe they are limping to Colombo to repair. I Never know what
Brian's going to do.

larryfulkerson -> RE: RHS II scen 129 GP and me (9/24/2017 12:58:06 AM)

I've got a boat-load of troops at Hsinking and a lot of it has places to go already before I got here and I'm
thinking that if the Soviet front is going to be quiet I can afford to move them to China's hot areas and
maybe get them to lend a hand. Hsinking doesn't need much of a garrison so these people are going to be on
the move soon. I'm thinking of moving the AA units to the Burma area where the Allies are a nusiance.

EDIT: Wait a minute, Do I have to pay PP's to move them out of Mongolia or wherever they are? I can't afford
to do that right now. Maybe I should wait. What do you guys say?

I found three units including two divisions that I'm moving from Osaka to Tokyo for transit to probably
Singapore. Although I have't seen a lot of units landing in the PI yet. One of them says he wants to
go to Balikapan. Sounds good to me.

larryfulkerson -> RE: RHS II scen 129 GP and me (9/24/2017 1:38:23 AM)

Fortunately there was a SCTF at Shanghi that I can use to chase away the Allied TF's near Nanking which is
further north and west inland a bit and I've decided to send whatever is available at Shanghi and it's a
mixed bag what with Cruisers and torpedo boats and what not. Even a PG.

Cull your high experience fighter pilots that have less than 70 def or air skill and train them up to 70. Much quicker to train them to 70/70 than get them to 80 experience.

larryfulkerson -> RE: RHS II scen 129 GP and me (9/24/2017 7:53:23 AM)

Here's the full report on Shanghi:
I've divided a division prior to shipment to Truk. Or Port Moresby if it's ready for me.
I thought maybe getting Kaiveng first, building the airfield, bombing PM as necessary for
the assault to be staged approx. a month from now since I'm assaulting K. as we speak.

The ships that were left over after the first troop transports left yesterday are the smaller
ones with short ranges and I have them loading RES bound for Nagasaki at first opportunity.
The SCTF that's leaving Shanghi for parts north was supposed to ply the waters in the area
between Shanghi and Nagasaki and that won't be happening now so it seems that the transports
will be on their own with whatever escorts I can scrape up. I'm using SC's for crying out
loud.

larryfulkerson -> RE: RHS II scen 129 GP and me (9/24/2017 8:27:19 AM)

Here's a little bit of what's going on around Bangkok-Singapore-Sammah area right now.
I've got transports that aren't quite empty yet unloading at the ports on the east coast of Malaya etc. and
they all have some kind of top cover, well, most of them do and I've got some BB's present at
Kota Bharu just in case they are needed to chase away some Allied TF and there's some carriers
there for top cover and unfortunately all the troops haven't landed yet, there's more coming in a
second wave and they need that dock space. It might be a tiny problem. Especially at Patani.

EDIT: That group headed for Kushing...they got way out ahead of the pack and don't have any
Surface Assets to retreat to and there's no air cover but they ARE in light rain and haven't
been detected yet, it might work. If it does then there will be an airfield and port ready to
go. Maybe.

larryfulkerson -> RE: RHS II scen 129 GP and me (9/24/2017 8:46:11 AM)

This is the group of carriers that I have near Kota Bharu providing top cover and one of their bombing groups.
Unfortunately I picked an example squadron that is really young and not extreamly proficient in naval bombing.
Yet. They need the practice and there are other groups that will provide the talent I need for this
squadron....I'll replace the nonperformers and replace them with better ones.

larryfulkerson -> RE: RHS II scen 129 GP and me (9/24/2017 11:29:00 AM)

This is what Tokyo looks like now. Not too many of the troops
parked there can be loaded on transports because of the HQ of the unit. I can't afford the
PP's to buy out very many of the units to move them.

All of the aircraft at Tokyo are in training and some of them have a morale so low that they
are stood down.

And the ships: Most of the ships parked in the harbor are transports. I'm letting Osaka
take on the auto-convoy tasks and I'm been dispatching small groups of TF's manually to
those nearby places that need a small infusion of RES to keep their LI industry going.
There's lots of them.

larryfulkerson -> RE: RHS II scen 129 GP and me (9/24/2017 11:51:49 AM)

Here's the waters around the home islands. I've sighted two subs and there's undoubtedly more lurking about. And I've
got some naked ships in those waters, ships without any escorts of any kind. I've got my fingers crossed.

I've sent my moves to Brian so let's see how long it takes to get some moves back.

larryfulkerson -> RE: RHS II scen 129 GP and me (9/24/2017 4:58:45 PM)

Cam Ranh Bay is a special case, all the ships have left for points west and there's a boat-load of armor that needs to
go to Malaya and there's a squadron of Nates there in training. The ships will return to CRB after they discharge their
passengers in about a week and the process will start again. I'm using CRB as the staging point for all the invasion
TF's going to Malaya and Miri and Kuching. I have an AS at Saigon so I'm using Saigon as a sub base but I'm thinking of
moving it to CRB.

If players want PP's to be paid for restricted units crossing national borders, including Manchuria/Korea,

its usually put in a house rule.Obvious reason for a rule like that would be to slow down operations.

But this RHS-scenario is a scenario with many specific changes, including a war with Russia even though its a phoney war atm.

Hard to say if a rule is needed , thats something to discuss maybe with GP?

There is another PBEM of RHS ongoing, CharlieVane vs Bristolduke, (both doing an AAR btw) and they use:

quote "The house rules we agreed upon:* Player must pay PP to move restricted units across borders. exceptions:

- US-Canada and Manchuria-Korea borders can be ignored
- Thai troops can move to Burma and Malaya
- Restricted Chinese troops that historically operated in Burma/ India can cross borders without paying PP
end quote http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4294113

With so many changes and variables its very interesting to see how this plays out.

Nick.
