verdugo94 -> How to train CV´s air groups? (10/24/2017 9:25:26 AM)

Hello,

I am facing a problem about how to effectively train my carrier pilots, especially dive bomber pilots. My actual routine is this:

Fighters-> Train: Escort till 70 Air-> Train Sweep till +60 Defence-> Go to a land based F o FF group to make CAP to increase exp-> Move to CV

Bombers-> Train: Naval Bombing till 70 then:

a) go to DB group on CV
b) go to TB: Train Torpedo till 70-> go to LB Train: NS +60-> Move to CV

As you can see I have a huge difference in training with my dive bombers, their exp is really low(between 40-50) and I don´t know how to increase it.

Need to know if you are IJN or Allied. In any case train the DBs to NS and ASW and that will increase overall experience. You can use surplus float plane units (if IJN) to train for all of that before assigning the pilots to DB squadrons.

Also you can train them in recon, wouldn't hurt. Plus GB of course. They can train for that while on board but not engaged.

I am IJN, maybe training in ASW would be a great idea, and with that I would fill a hole in my KB that now is filled by FP. I dont see GB as clear, I wont like to lose my precious pilots with GB dutties, also I can´t think in a moment that I will use it, you might enlight me at this point [:)]

Thaks for answering

Especially as IJN, I agree with you. Don't ever use either your Kate crews or your Val crews in ground bombing. The return is little and the expense particularly great. The IJN cannot waste any air crews. They must be trained to the max and they can't be wasted as flak magnets strafing troops on the ground or even level bombing them. The results will be meager and the cost irreplaceable. IJN DBs and TBDs should sink ships and that's it. Use IJA aircraft and crews to do everything else it is possible to without taking off of an aircraft carrier deck.

I don't put a whole lot of weight on overall experience, but I think the defense skill level is important. As the Japanese player (IJA only), you can increase that by using about half your transport fleet doing general training. That raises the defense skill pretty fast and I move the guys who've reached 50 in defensive skills to fighter squadron training. Other ways to increase defensive skill include, even if it's not activity you would normally countenance, training at low level ground attack. That means altitudes of 100'. Be careful of training percentage, as that sort of activity is highly stressful and fatiguing.

Train DB's in just two aspects. One naval bombing, two naval search. These are carrier A/C and that's what they need to do, find your enemy and sink 'em. As for ASW they can acquire this skill when no CV ops are occurring. Just watch your A/C fatigue as it can become quite high after CV ops have occurred. It can take a week or more to get this number down again. As for getting their experience up, my best suggestion would be to assign the pilots to LB units where you can bomb weak ground units (China, or bypassed units come to mind). It'll take a while to get their experience up this way, but its the best that I know. Someone with more knowledge than I may know a better way to get their experience up.
