New player and very much enjoy this game but unfortunately old enough to have few years to play. Is there anywhere I can find the best or most favorite scenarios to play Thanks Don

Depends on what you're looking for, to be honest. This forum is a good spot for recommendations but there are so many out there you need to offer some idea of what kind of scenario you want.

There is a huge amount of personal taste involved so not sure how much help this will be... I really feel that the DLC campaign scenarios, played individually, were some of the best I have played.

The "best" or "most favorite" scenarios tends to reflect people's interests. Some people are interested in near future conflicts, others the Arab-Isaeli wars, others interested in specific regions or technologies, still others are oriented towards mostly naval conflicts while others like air stuff. Some people are really fascinated by aircraft carriers or submarines. But as others have said, depends much on what your interests are. Within those campaigns and the Fury scenarios are a wide variety of missions.

Just some context to my comment. I find the DLC scenarios a good collection of different kinds of scenarios. Combined, there is something for everyone. I find that they take advantage of a huge number of new features that have been added to Command over the years. Just compare the Battle of Latkia in the release with The Hunters in Shifting Sands. While the core concept is the same in both, The Hunters has the advantage of scenarios designers having a lot more experience in the capabilities of the editor, as well a host of new features just not available in the original. The short of it is, the new scenarios are a lot more sophisticated and feature-rich. My actual favorite two are modified versions of Bass Drum and The Battle of Latakia. But now, The Hunters has replaced Battle of Latakia.

There are no favorites that will appeal to everyone, there is just too much variation and diversity. That being said, I actually do have a scenario that I would easily identify as my #1 favorite: USS Midway vs Cuba, 1989 by Excroat3 http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3971321&mpage=1&key=� It can also be found in the Community Scenario Pack (CSP) as well as the Steam Workshop if you use the Steam version of CMANO. Never in CMANO have I had a more enjoyable and intense experience than when I first played this scenario. I also fired it up again last week and got crunched. I don't know if some changes were made since I last played it but it is a challenge. Other favorite scenarios of mine include: The Tiger and the Dragon, 2019 (Standalone with CMANO) Deter, Detect, Defend, 1962 by Randomizer (CSP) Armed Diplomacy, 1996 (one of the Chains of War scenarios) Indian Ocean Brawl, 1989 (CSP) The Battle of the First Salvo, 1989 (CSP)

This is an interesting topic... bcos with such a vibrant community creating so many scenarios, sometimes I find myself just looking through all the scenario descriptions for a fun scenario to play, but end up not playing anything! [:D] Anyway, I find Live DLC 'Old Grudges Never Die' a manageable scenario with a good mix of air and naval combat, so it's fun for a newbie like me... And also Operation Reclaimed Might 2015. The large scenarios are just too overwhelming, once you unpaused the time, it feels like hundreds of things happening at the same time and I never know what to do first! [:'(]

While I definitely understand different tastes, my favorite has always been Deter Detect Defend.

I'm glad you all enjoyed my scenario! Some of my personal favorites include: Feltan's Scenarios (Goodnight Irene in particular) Little Green Men in the Baltic Sea (on steam workshop) Gunner98's Northern Fury Series is a must play Chains of War's scenarios were very fun as well There are so many more that I've played that I can't recall right now, my suggestion is to download the community scenario pack, and just spend some time browsing and taking notes of scenarios you want to play. It will be impossible to run out!

Great thread! I must agree that between the official DLC scenarios and the Community Scenario Pack, there seems to be an endless supply of great scenarios. Plus, at least for me, so many of these scenarios are enjoyable to replay multiple times, as there are so many ways to handle things. Some of my favorites include: Operation Lightning Strike Shamal Bass Drum the Northern Fury scenarios I have Chains of War, but have yet to really dive into it as I have been having so much fun with the individual scenarios. And to make matters worse, I definitely want to dive into the Shifting Sands scenarios. So much CMANO goodness, it is a wonderful problem to have [:D]

Agreed. Great thread. Helpful in terms of deciding what to try next, given there are so many to choose from. Deter, detect, defend seems to be cropping up frequently. I've only dabbled so far, but have really enjoyed all Uncle Mark's scenarios that I've struggled with. I have played Air Battle - The Litani River 2017 around twenty times, lol, before finally managing to understand how to crack it, how to achieve the objectives without loss. But there have been so many like that that are good to learn with. I'll look at Deter, Detect, Defend next, I think. Or a Shifting Sands scenario - as someone pointed out, there are many more features available now than there were a while back.

the nuclear frontier is the greatest era, just because of how absolutely crazy it was. all sorts of completely off-the-wall oddball concepts with the looming threat of apocalypse in the background.

It is a bit surreal to look back on the earlier Cold War in terms of military thinking. In the Mid 1950s to the early 1960s, basically the whole thinking was that nukes would be used across the spectrum of warfare. This was particularly true in the US, to the point where conventional land forces, and to an extent, the US Navy, really had to struggle to remain relevant in the age when SAC dominated everything. The US basically had it in mind to have almost every sort of ordinance above small arms and AAA ammunition be nuclear.

it was a new game. my impression was that everyone expected that nukes would be used in the next war- and they imagined that the next war would be within 10-15 years. hence the mad dash towards ever greater destructive power, the incredible number of tests, the mad rush of R&D designed to create an impossible-to-defeat strategic weapon that could guarantee that they would still be standing at the end, whether the world was an ashpile or no. while it was a uniquely insane time, it's one of the more interesting periods of human history for that reason and others. that, and it produced some real cool planes.
