ROK soldiers in Vietnam?!

Yes....

"The soldier is from the Baekma Division (White Horse) which is the 9th infantry.

"On November 27, 1967, a soldier of the 30th regiment of the Baekma Division (백마부대) rescues Vietnamese children at the battle of Dien Can. This soldier's name is An Sang-Byung (안상병). ""

Interesting. Where did you find this, MakeeLearn?

Yes. Interesting. I'd be interested in finding the source of this too, MakeeLearn. [;)]

It was the tight cut of the pants, cuff, that made me feel that this was not US forces.

https://www.reddit.com/r/HistoryPorn/comments/6tu7qu/on_november_27_1967_a_korean_soldier_of_the_30th/ I knew the ROK Marines and Tiger division was there , but not the 9th. That explains the uniforms and the browning. I find it interesting that one of the troops has insecticide in his helmet band , just like USA troops did. [:)]

Chickenboy -> RE: OT:Just because (10/26/2017 4:07:50 PM)

Since we're picking nits (pun intended), troops in Vietnam carried insect repellent in their headbands rather than insecticide per se.

MakeeLearn -> RE: OT:Just because (10/26/2017 4:10:13 PM)

insecticide mixed with c-ration peanut butter = cooking fire fuel.

And C-4. That was also used as a very useful cooking fire fuel.

Are you saying to Fred that he actually shouldn't be correcting someone in that fashion? [:'(]

It wasn't actually meant as a correction. More like a supplement to the discussion. And, I haven't actually
attended that course of BB's, soo.....or any other for that matter. Haven't actually handled an A6 either, or seen its bipod, for that matter.
The A4, on the other hand.... Or is it in the other hand....?

His boots look Marines to me. But the picture can be found if one googles korean soldiers in Vietnam.

Which part? The offer to sell, or the desire NOT to buy? [:D]

Because it actually makes the other person get their back up and stop listening to your ideas, so you end up with no communication happening (like the current politics in some countries). Same advice goes for eschewing pejorative words in favour of neutral ones, and acknowledging that you have heard the other person's argument but have differing thoughts. Dismissing the other guy outright will shut down any hope of having a conversation.

There, you just got the gist of an entire day's seminar! No need to thank me because you probably will not feel the need to anyway! [8D]

Canoerebel -> RE: OT:Just because (10/26/2017 6:51:44 PM)

Chick-fil-A followed that idea. CFA employees reply "My pleasure," when a customer says, "Thank you." CFA implemented this because it previously it was common for young employees to respond with a courteous, "No problem." But CFA correctly understood that "No problem" actually strikes people as "It was a problem" (or hassle).

Actually a good post, Fred. [:D]

Actually, it was! He did not use the word "actually" while disagreeing with anyone, he just used it as an adjective to emphasize his not having been there nor had hands on experience with the weapons. Those uses of the word are not pejorative nor insulting.

Actually, "neither" would be a better word than the underlined "not"[8D] [:D][8D]

If one wanted parsimony and picayune dissection of verbatim language throughout the world, one can come up with myriad examples of where the words spoken are different than the meaning conveyed. A "you're welcome" in the Spanish speaking world is "de nada"-"it was nothing". This is not considered informal or brusque. Remarkably similar to the "no problem" non-issue with today's youth. While it is ALWAYS acceptable to say "you're welcome", it's also best to not look for linguistic slights where none was intended.

Hence the false umbrage about "actually" amongst those being overly sensitive. I'm not aware of anyone who interprets the use of that adverb in a sentence as a pejorative insult or slight. You show me non-inflammatory common parlance that inflames a select audience of the easily offended and I'll show you an opportunity for a well-paying day-long conference for the politically correct linguist market.

Me neither. Beware the corporate-speak that turns customers into relationship clientele, waitresses into experience guides and employees into service experts.
