Thanks Hubert, and it does make sense.

Cheers,

Without the advantage they don`t need to start the war anymore. Actually research has decreased through max. 1 chit in Int. (V 1.10), giving the Allies the opportunity to overcome with 1 chit in Int. each (and a 3 times higher possibilty for a breakthrough).

Research progression slows down with every new lvl automatically, and the difference between high lvl tanks or fighters is decreasing: getting from lvl 1-2 increases the attack value of tanks by 25%, from lvl 4-5 by 12.5%.

Most of us already know the predecessor SoE, you don`t have to invent the game new. It was pretty well balanced, but the map was tiny in comparison, and the research was so slow, nobody would ever see a Kingtiger in a PbEM.

Research was not only slower, the max. cap was even very low for the Germans.

I don`t believe this game isnīt well balanced anyway, I won all of my PbEMs, even with the Allies. Before changing anymore, I`d prefer to let the best players judge over balancing. Let`s do a tournament!

Sugar, i dont see any evidence of German research slowing down at all. its now June 1943 and my level 3 Russian armour is now facing Level 5 German armour!!! My earlier point was if the Germans went balls out from Day one he should get level 5 in 1945....So now he can just keep buying level 5 tanks now instead of spending on Research. again i say Germans and even the Allies in that matter hit the research levels to quickly leaving 43 onwards with nothing worthwhile to research

Sugar -> RE: play balance in v1.10? (11/3/2017 3:59:28 AM)

Ah, I see, than you`d prefer to extend max. lvl of research, if I understand right?

Either more levels with each lvl having a lesser % increase in firepower improvement that way if you are a level or two behind the disadvantage is not as drastic as it is now if the formula doest change at least so down how quick you get to level 5. Currently once level 5 is got all ones enginners and scientests in that field do nothing for the next 3 and years. If you added a number more levels then i think it would be important to change the firepower increease to a lower % otherwise it could be to devastating one side got level 8 tanks againt level 4

In the games I'm playing in version 1.10 I'm finding the game much more balanced. In my opinion having level 4 or level 5 tanks in 1943 is an anomaly not the standard. Any player playing either side can get lucky tech hits. I have not completed a full game of 1.10 yet but I'm liking the changes I'm seeing so far.

A lot of how these games play out is determined by how a side spends its money. You can go all in on tech early but you will sacrifice unit density and diplomacy by doing it so you had better have great tech hits or your opponent will eat you alive. I watch the reports section very closely when playing PBEM. You can deduce a tremendous amount and have a good calculated guess of what your opponent is up to. As a Soviet if I see Axis spending all on tech I'll have an army of garrisons for him to fight through. With low Axis unit density it is easy to cut off Axis spearheads and severely limit their advances. Then when they start getting increased money the Soviets can start researching techs more aggressively. The Axis will have a slow advance and then get hit by Father Winter. In addition Soviet units are being rebuilt very quickly and cheaply due to most of them having good supply when they are destroyed.

After playing this game a lot you can rule out certain strategies that have low chances of success (Sea Lion) and concentrate on more tried and true strategies. This game is a big, more complicated rock, paper, scissors type of game. Easy to play but difficult to master so for every plan there is a counter and it goes both ways. The trick is to deduce what your opponent is doing and react accordingly.

I have not played a game deep into the Soviet campaign as of yet in v1.10 but when I do it will quickly become apparent if the play balance issues have been corrected. Having played the SC series of games for years I have little doubt the balance issues have been adressed.

Not from my experience, im on my third game now with same opponent and again im facing level 5 Armour in June 43....Seems the norm

Christolos -> RE: play balance in v1.10? (11/4/2017 4:35:48 AM)

The question here is should this be the norm?

It could certainly be if the Axis goes balls to the wall with upgrades...but a savvy allied player could hopefully see this coming and be able to counter it!

I did try and counter it and went as you say "balls to the wall" with upgrade on Russian tanks and have only just got to Lvl 3 armour...Which is getting turned to dust

Titan,

Lets play a game and you can be Axis, go balls to wall to get level 5 tanks if you wish. I'd be very surprised to see them in 1943. Simple law of averages makes that very difficult. I'm playing 5 games at the moment and I turn around turns very rapidly and I have yet to get to 1943 with v 1.10. The patch hasn't even been out 3 weeks yet. I'm still of the opinion that what you are experiencing is the exception rather than the rule. I think more time needs to be taken before any more changes are made.

Looking forward to a game if you have an opening for one. :)

I don't think the way the Allies can successfully counter the Axis going all out on tech upgrades is best accomplished by trying to do the same...the Allies just don't have the MPPs in the early game to compete. They do, however, still need to try and keep up as best as they can...but perhaps the best way would be to do what birde alluded to, which is to spam the axis with garrisons (and cheap corps rebuilds) to buy more time...

nnason -> RE: play balance in v1.10? (11/5/2017 8:48:00 PM)

There are never enough MPPs to go around on either side.
Axis builds up ground and air but must I think sacrifice naval, some units. and diplomacy.
If Brits and USA both go for same techs they will be weak all. across. And they must balance tech and diplomacy with units.
I am playing as Allies and winning in 1.09.10. We are in Sept 43 and Axis is ahead in tech and unit experience but behind in diplomacy. Spain and Turkey are leaning Axis and Finland is an Allied.

Axis has 130 land unites Allies have 170. Air and Naval are equal.

I am finding axis experience right now is killer on all fronts but I am winning due to mass and MMPs 1200 Axis to 1800 Allies.

So axis ahead in tech and experience. Allies ahead in Diplomacy and units. So I think neither side has enough MPPs to be ahead in units, tech, and diplomacy.
