WABAC -> what causes fighters to lose their default bomb load? (10/30/2017 11:33:56 PM)

Tried the manual for "fighter". Tried google. If I ever knew I've long since forgotten. Just started the game again recently since I had some time and there was a newish patch.

Some fighters have them, some don't, even at the same base. Tried turning off drop tanks. Checked bases with over 60K supplies.

So what's up?

If Fighters are on Escort, Sweep, etc. any mission that is not an Attack Mission,(Strafe, Ground attack, Etc.) then they will not carry bombs....GP

Enemy fighters will cause fighters to eject their bombs. Enemy bombers might as well depending on the circumstances. My advice, if you are playing the Japanese, do not try and use them as bombers, they will have their hands full trying to be fighters.

Interesting. If I switch to training I see the bombs again. If I switch directly to an attack mode I don't see them. Maybe they show up during the resolution. I'll give it a spin both ways.

Thanks for the tip.

Are those web sites? I'm trying to find them, you know, Escort.com, Sweep.com etc. Strafe sounds really intriguing. Do they charge extra?

Even fighters want to be fit and shed weight. Blame it on poor parenting.

A really HOT target.

Ok, I think you are talking about the planes details page.

If you set the fighters to escort or sweep...they won't have show a bomb default because it would be counterproductive to carry them into a dogfight.

Set the fighters to a mission needing a bomb (say naval), and they will show up as the default load unless you are using drop tanks that use the same load spot.

In combat, fighters will jettison their bombs to tangle with CAP and LRCAP if pressed hard enough.

I rarely use Allied fighters as bombers. You just never have enough of them as it is and any fighter caught down low is going to get shot to bits.

High-durability Beaufigters and Thunderbolts can whitstand 7.7mm AAMG fire. Others fold and die.

I have found some (many, most?) of the fighters more useful than the A-20 series. By the time you can contemplate getting any use out of an attack bomber that only carries 2K pounds of bombs you have fighters that carry the same load and defend themselves if necessary.

Except for the Beau's of course.

If you play with the editor, you will find different bomb types are listed for different mission types as well...some for regular GP bombing missions, others listed for ASW or even ant-naval missions.
The planes may carry as many as 3 or 4 types of "main bombload" depending on the mission they fly.
As mentioned above, enemy fighters may force your planes to jettison their bombs entirely.
FB's get a bonus for accuracy, and may also get a bonus for ability to maintain their bombs to a designated target, (if you assigned a specific target.

In the "device" column...it is possible to find the identical bomb type listed as GP, ASW, etc, but they will be listed as separate devices to be read accurately by the game engine itself.
Be wary of this when playing with the great editor because it is VERY user friendly and will read whatever you put into it.
