Just a general question. Is this historical or added for game balance?

Ian R -> RE: Fuel on Ak's (10/31/2017 7:11:11 AM)

Do you mean did liberty ships, etc have a built in liquid cargo tank or these?

Yeah, been discussed ad nauseum. Add your house rule or not. Your game, your decision.

My comment is I allow xAK's to ship fuel. One of my degrees is ChemEngr and I used to work with this stuff. Gimme an xAK and a few welders and I will have you a tank installed in a hold with pumps in less than a day. It ain't rocket science. In war, you make it happen faster. Yes, you waste a lot of space. The designers guessed 50%. IMHO, not a bad guess.

Now do I use them this way? Hardly ever. The cost per mile of doing this is ruinous to IJ economy. You may as well use the Yamato to transport the fuel. [8D]

Anyway, it ain't that big of a deal in the game. If the IJ does it, the are wasting fuel due to poor planning that they can't afford to lose. The allies are already winning that point. If the allies do it, who cares? They have so much of everything that of course they will get it there.

PS: oh and I posted this years ago: in New England in the winter, yes you need to heat the stuff. In the DEI at any time of the year, it flows just fine.

Bullwinkle58 -> RE: Fuel on Ak's (11/1/2017 12:10:08 AM)

I agree that over the course of the whole game it doesn't matter that much for the Allies. Early it can. There are not that many tankers, they are in inconvenient/'dangerous places, and you need to build fuel dumps in a lot of places faster than the Allies did in RL. RL Japan was never, ever going to try to take all of India or Oz.

The devs gave the Allies the RL OOB of tankers, and over the whole shebang they're enough. But in 1942 I have a lot more xAKs than I need to haul supply, and they can haul for "free" EC to CT.

The only advice I would give anyone inserting a no-fuel HR on the Allies is maybe don't do it your first game.

witpqs -> RE: Fuel on Ak's (11/1/2017 4:21:47 AM)

It definitely makes things easier for the Allies in the early game.

Yaab -> RE: Fuel on Ak's (11/1/2017 7:55:58 AM)

There is a middle ground: just limit this practice to xAKLs. Sort of emergency, frontline tankers with a small amount of loaded fuel drums.
