dstone11 -> Net Victory Point Award? (11/17/2017 1:09:33 PM)

Situation Briefing for Victory includes a line for "Net Victory Point Award" ...

What is this?

Manual implies that it is added to the victory point level. But playing the Tannenberg tutorial, it seems to be simply "2x" the current victory point difference.

Bug? Something else?

Victory Points are sometimes awarded based on some event [capture a city, destroy a unit, etc.]. These can be + or -, and/or for both sides.

That makes sense as the intended use of the attribute ...

But then it should be 0 in Tannenberg. Not -180 for the Russians at the beginning when the objectives count is 260 for the Germans and 170 for the Russians. And not -60 for the Russians as soon as you capture one 30 point objective changing it to 230 for the Germans and 200 for the Russians. Below that the difference and the victory level is displayed correctly. I.e., -90 and a marginal loss at the beginning and -30 and a draw after capturing one 30 point objective.

Is this field displaying the wrong value? I.e., bug?

I will take a look for you, but I can't find it. What folder is that scenario in ?

AFAIR the loss intolerance is also taken into account; in both cases it's set to 100%; which plays a major role in victory determination, too. On a side note, the AD should be best set to 4 and the MRPB to 2.

Ok a Tutorial, thanks. That was an easy check, only 17 events. None are Victory Point Events, so it is not influenced by that. And I am sorry, but I don't know the answer to your question. I searched the manual and What's New doc for 'Net Victory Point Award' but didn't find anything [:(]

That's what I found, but... no definition what they actually mean.

Here's how it's calculated. It looks like ObjectivevalueTotal is included twice. Would that explain the discrepancy?

VictoryLevel = Enemy lossValue + objectiveValueTotal + victoryModifications

NetAwards = (Player VictoryLevel + ObjectiveValueTotal - LossValue) -
(Enemy VictoryLevel + ObjectiveValueTotal - LossValue)

Oberst_Klink -> RE: Net Victory Point Award? (11/17/2017 8:36:18 PM)

Well, what to say? Thanks for clearing this one up, Ralph(ie)!

So I'm guessing, from the documentation and pseudo-code, that it should be ...

NetAwards = victoryModifications
PlayerVictoryLevel = (Enemy lossValue + PlayerObjectiveTotal) - (Player lossValue + EnemyObjectiveTotal) + victoryModifications

Sound right?

Interested in this side note ...
-- is there a "rule of thumb" for modifying AD and MRPB in older scenarios?
-- or is this something specific you know re: Tannenberg?

There is indeed - http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3045873

All explained in this post; exceptions of course are possible regarding the AD/MRPB, but that's being explained as well.

As for Tannenberg, and I am more than happy to do even a PBEM test against/with you, I'd adjust the MRPB to 3 and the AD to 4. It's a half-week per turn scenario and losses can accumulate more in half a week rather than in a half-day per turn battle. And historically, the Russkies lost 1/3(!!!) of their men!
Regarding the extended supply rule/setting, one would have to make tests; but it's more relevant in scenarios with precious motorised support and therefore the limitation a scenario designer can implement to prevent tanks advancing ahead on a 1% supply margin ;)
