Now for those map objective flags!!!

Oh thanks, I hadn't noticed those yet. I took a look and I see them, so I will have something shortly !

I did some work on the hand cursor thing, but so far it eludes me as to how I can change it.

Just a friendly warning, you will have problems doing it 'the old fashioned way'. Move up to the new and goofy looking 'Documents/My Games/The Operational Art of War IV/'Graphics Override'. I rebelled at first too, but learned it has to be done.

It had me stumped -and cussin'- as well... We old guard being so used to the AltGraphics folder[:D]

'Historical' Nazi flag mod

I downloaded this and put it into the Graphics Override folder but the stock roundel is not replaced with the historical symbol. Strange.

Does the file name need to be changed from h_FlagRoundels to something else?

Exellent for me, but I'm not certain how to activate, needing educating. I put the h_FlagRoundels.png into the Graphics Override folder but it had no effect. Basically the game is using lower resolution FlagRoundels.png instead. So I'm missing how I can get the h_FlagRoundels.png used by TOAW IV instead of the FlagRoundels.png? What am I missing? Running at 2560x1440.
[/quote]

Yes, I'm having the same problem. Putting the downloaded roundels file has no effect.

As explained in the response I got, this paticular file will need to go in the game graphics directory ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Games\The Operational Art of War IV\graphics", or where you installed), not the Graphics Override.

This can dangerous, so make sure you rename the original file and don't lose it, then place this file in the same directory and it will be used by the game and you will see the new graphic.

I decided to face danger in the face and followed your instructions to the letter. I launched the game and the new symbol presents itself just as in the pic you posted. I'll play a turn or two and report back if there are any issues. Thanks.

gbaby -> RE: MOD Request (11/20/2017 2:49:03 AM)

Champagne, don't forget that is redmarkus4's mod, not mine. He delivered a good update to the default in the game, which I like very much better. The instructions is what he informed me after I had same failed result as you, assuming Override Graphics directory was all I needed. Not sure why we need substitute the games original file, but its safe, no danger, just don't lose the original which I hope you just renamed to something you can recognize.

Regards

Yes, thanks to him for creating this very professional looking mod.

sPzAbt653 -> RE: MOD Request (11/20/2017 4:42:22 AM)

All Flags are now included in the zip in Post #2. Note that the Install is slightly different as there are now multiple files.

How is the install procedure different? Does this group of flag mod files change all roundels to square?

Thanks for the good work.

sPzAbt653 -> RE: MOD Request (11/23/2017 3:50:50 PM)

Unzip the file contents into 'Documents/My Games/The Operational Art of War IV/'Graphics Override'. The files must be separate, it will not work if you keep them in a folder.

I think it does, let me know if you find otherwise, thanks.

I' ll just leave this here for anyone interested.

[Edit] I have done a dumb mistake offsetting the roundels file. Now it's ok. Please redownload.

Champagne -> RE: Flag MOD Request (7/26/2020 1:16:32 AM)

Anyway we can bump this topic? I've migrated my game set to a new computer and on to Steam.

I'm having trouble installing the Historical Flags for the German WW2 forces. I've tried both the "Old School" method and the "Graphic Override Folder" method. No luck with either method for me.

I am quite confused.

Placing the new files in the Graphics Override folder should make a global change. Suggest you check:

1. Make sure the file names (h_flags, s_flags and flags) you’ve placed in the Graphics Override folder are exactly the same as the files you want to override.
2. Make sure you are using the “png” flag files, not the “bmp” files.
3. There are three flag files needed, small, huge and normal. Make sure you have them all.

Regards

Champagne -> RE: Flag MOD Request (7/26/2020 5:09:14 PM)

What is the name of the file used for the Nation Roundels on the Unit Display?

I placed the modded files that Lamarax gave us in Post #42 in my Graphics Override Folder. I see no affect, at least on the Unit Display Roundel.

Here are the names of the Lamarax files I placed in the Graphics Override Folder, all .png files.

h Flag Roundels

h flags

s flags

So far, I don't see any change. The National Roundel for the German units is still not the Historical symbol.

Shadrach -> RE: Flag MOD Request (7/27/2020 10:06:33 AM)

The mod will need to include all sizes of the necessary files for the override to work, or it will just fall back to using the defaults.
The mod only includes the h_ and s_ file.

You need these in the correct sizes:
h_FlagRoundels.png
h_flags.png
FlagRoundels.png
flags.png
s_flags.png
(there is no s_FlagRoundels)

For convenience I've uploaded my files here. Note that these are from Cabido's mod so they're a bit different than stock. Looks nicer IMO, and they have the "historical" flags.

What are the differences, other than the German flag?

Champagne -> RE: Flag MOD Request (7/27/2020 6:53:56 PM)

Thanks very much. I shall try it out.

This is probably an obvious question, but, I'll ask anyway: My "Graphics Override" folder contains many sub-folders that don't seem to concern graphics at all. As such, when I enter the Mod .png files into the Graphics Override folder, these .png files sit there beside the many sub-folders.

I assume that this configuration is normal and not a problem?

I assume that there is no need for me to create a sub-folder for the Mod .png files?

Thanks.

PS Probably no problems arise out of this arrangement because the initial "look-see" at the game with the Mod files is a great success. The mod graphics are outstanding. Great work. My kudos to the Modder. Thanks.

If you see a lot of subfolders in Graphics Override, you're in the Program Files (install) directory and not Documents. The only default folder there should be "Cursors". Unless you've previously manually copied the content of the game install directory to Documents?

It shouldn't make such a big difference, but bound to cause confusion next time you're trying to mod something, and might get broken by patches.

The recommended folder for mods is in the Documents here:
c:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\The Operational Art of War IV\

Copy that path into Explorer and place the png files directly in that folder.

Sub-folders are only needed when you have custom graphics that apply to only a single scenario.

Actually, the roundels are the same, but the flags are a bit less saturated and have a nice edge effect. Makes their presence on the map a little more subtle.

Now that the swastika is allowed again (for games), we're looking for just this sort of stuff. Would you let us include it in the next update? All I have the power to offer is your name in the credits.

I'd love to. But it's not my permission to give - these are made by Cabido for the Boardgame Style Mod [:)]
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4523087
(The full mod is still available here but no idea for how long: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lbpdh7w6S3BaAO-9ZV9b3SRa-KYdM7vb/view )

Not sure if he's still contactable.

However, pragmatically thinking, as his work is a modification of the original work by the developer, not sure it's actually needed. But it's always nice to ask, and they would look great in the game [;)]

Curtis Lemay -> RE: Flag MOD Request (7/28/2020 6:55:18 PM)

Well, my legal knowledge gets exhausted in a big hurry.

Is there any other mod out there with an historical German WWII flag?

Shadrach -> RE: Flag MOD Request (7/30/2020 12:09:46 PM)

Well, I could relatively easy mock up a quick flag mod based on the original files, but I only have the GIMP to work with, and a true graphics pro with Photoshop (like Cabido) would be the best for quality in terms of scaling and possibly there will be some detail work needed after scaling.

Curtis Lemay -> RE: Flag MOD Request (7/30/2020 4:42:17 PM)

Well, he hasn't logged in in over a year. And there is no other contact path given. I think we have to give up on Cabido.

Shadrach -> RE: Flag MOD Request (7/30/2020 8:51:42 PM)

You can use these if/when you release a new patch, attached. These are based on the original game files, combined with the flag from Wikipedia:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:War_Ensign_of_Germany_(1938–1945).svg

Should look good enough in the game, but lacking some of the finesse of Cabido's work.

Edit; just noticed there's actually a "m_FlagRoundels.png" as well, so added that. No idea if it's actually used in-game though.

Curtis Lemay -> RE: Flag MOD Request (7/30/2020 9:10:08 PM)
