stevemk1a -> AI not rallying (11/29/2017 10:51:01 PM)

Was playing through Kurhaus Clash scenario as German with American AI, and I'm pretty sure I never noticed any messages in the AI administrative phase, and also never noticed any American units rally. Difficulty was set to normal. Wondering if I am missing something?

Played Tutorial 1 and saw AI rally, so maybe just awful rolls for the AI in that scenario ...

The Ai appears to rally on defense because it doesn't move out of it's original positions in tutorial. I watched this also and let the ai play both sides; as the germans it never attempted a rally and moved its broken units to the rear away from the leaders.

The other thing I noticed is the ai won't advance if it's going to take fire and will just sit there until the unit that is holding them up is broken or routed thus making it easy to hold the ai back when it is the attacker just placing your units far enough apart to keep it from advancing very far. I got a major victory as the US in tutorial 1 doing this. Just split my forces up and kept it from advancing. It didn't even get close to the first objective marker closest to it.

Basically I see no real ai on offense as it's too easy to lure into a wait and see situation and the turns are so low it's easy to do for 7 turns. Had the ai had more turns in tutorial 1 it could have made it to at least one objective; is it possible to change the number of turns per scenario for the ai to have time to advance and possibly win?

Basically I need two scenarios for each match; one for when I play offense and one for when the AI plays offense. 7 turns on offense for me is challenging; 7 turns on defense is a piece of cake to defend with the way the ai doesn't do anything. Also, where's the close assaults when the ai is the attacker? It never even tried to get into any hexes I was in.

In my opinion, the AI has a couple bad habits requiring some correction, i.e.:

Unbroken leaders with broken units rout with the units in the Rout Segment, but in the subsequent Advance Segment the leader advances alone and leaves the broken units alone. In the later stages of some scenarios, you can see several leaders charging towards the enemy (and certain death), while their troops remain broken at the rear.

AI will never fire on units beyond normal range. Just today, I slaughtered a German stack consisting of a B** leader, three squads and 2 LMG with a similar US stack by first moving and than staying in an open hex terrain 9 hexes away. Any half-brained German player would have fired on the US stack moving in the open with a nice -4 DRM.

AFVs, conversely, fire every time they have an opportunity, even after they moved and their chance to hit anything are abysmal.

I just edited that scenario and gave the ai 12 turns and it still couldn't take the closest objective to it. I got another outstanding major victory. This ai can't assaut worth a crap; it's merely ok on defense but just holds it's objectives and doesn't move so if you take a stack and a mouse you can lure it to shoot at the mouse while you rush in an crush it with the stack. Both ways it doesn't look as promising as I thought it would be. Though it's fun to play old squad leader graphics this ai has much to desire and needs a lot of improvement to be as good as say Field of Glory II's ai.

Actually even after playing Field of Glory II for awhile the AI isn't really that good it's just on higher difficulties it gets double the units you have thus it's really just a stat increase only by numbers of troops instead of individual units.

It's sad all games have to be in that sort of ai mode. Either they get more stats than you or get more numbers of troops than you or as in this one the difficulty is it gets to order all its units while you only get a certain few. Only a few ai's are actually good "artificial" intelligence. Sadly I can count those on one hand. On an even scale I can't remember a one besides chess that was better than me.

But, to be fair; I've played a few human opponents that aren't as good as some of the worst ai's out there. lol This game would be so much better if it had multiplayer.

the multiplayer:
At first it's great[8D]
then you come across the bad losers and only play with the righteous players[:(]
and in the end you end up playing with the same players, you know their technique, in short as if you were playing against an AI.[>:]

Sometimes I often wonder who invented gaming and to what purpose actually. I've heard some say it's entertaining. Well, it's not entertaining for one person and in some games lots of people aren't so much entertained as the "losers" of the game. Just ask the Cleveland Browns. [:D]

Games give gloating rights and dances around computer chairs (good sports that) while others sit in gloom and despair. I've seen players who say they want challenge and those very same players scream CHEAT when they do actually lose. lol

Games lead to cheating to win for some; others find griefing in a game fun (like dropping during a tournament or taking every minute of their turn as they find out they are about to lose.

Games lead to arguments about the rules; thus the term rules lawyers arose.

So, I have to ask; what actually is the fun an entertainment of a game other than being the winner? We already spend enough time wasting our lives killing time while time kills us don'tcha know? [:D]

Is gaming just another form of filling that void of waiting on the train of life to take us away? To take our minds away from the inevitable?

Mine is I want to be challenged, but, why? What do I get if I am challenged? Entertainment? lol I think most that want a challenging ai is one that appears to be going to almost beat us and then loses in the final turns of battle so that human ego of ours is fulfilled. [:'(] Thas entertainment! [:D]

More beautiful than the victory is the fight that we conducted to obtain it.[:'(]
