Azurne -> Normandy 44 Scenario (12/6/2017 11:47:12 AM)

This may be a well-known question that was answered long ago, but I couldn't find it.....

Why does the Normandy 44 scenario start on June 5th?

Maybe you're talking about a different Normandy scenario, but the one under that exact name starts on the 6th.

Still, if it's another scenario and really starts on the 5th, read the scenario notes. Sometimes there are Theater options to choose, or the scenario creator gave one turn to do beach bombardments... whatever reason.

OOOPS, that picture turned out to be rather big...

Perhaps to give the germans a chance to reorganize their defense, since the first mover who knows exactly where the enemies are and their composition always enjoys a bit of the intelligence upper hand. -Annabelle

'We have to stop them at the beaches!' Erwin Rommel

Adjutant: A brilliant plan, Herr General. Unorthodox, but brilliant.
Gen. Erich Marcks: Well, fortunately it's just a game. I don't think we need to worry too much. Eisenhower would never risk such a gambit. Never!

This the the Normandy 44 scenario that uses half day turns. I used the extra day to soften up the beaches with naval gunfire, then dropped my para's on the June 5th night turn. I'm not sure why the scenario designer made an extra day, but it gives you an extra turn and I used mine to take out some guns and secure all the roads leading to the beaches. Your para's get time to get into blocking positions better, and dig in before your troops hit the beaches.

The airdrops if I remember correctly, started on the night of June 5th historically. Maybe the designer was trying to simulate the night drops of the para's.

Yes, my mistake......I meant the Overlord 44 scenario.

I thought the extra day might be chance to soften up the beaches, but wouldn't that also giver the Germans an extra day to get forces to the beaches?

On the AM turn no axis units moved just from the shelling. It was on the turn I dropped para's that they started to move, but they moved towards the para drops and not the beaches themselves.

Charles Jehlen -> RE: Normandy 44 Scenario (12/29/2017 1:47:11 AM)

Perhaps on the 5 AM turn the seaborne troops should leave port and set up just out of coastal gun range...

Get the seasick mod going...

5 PM - Airborne

6 AM - Invasion!
