your store pricings?

Neogodhobo -> RE: Why does Steam pricing not reflect .. (12/9/2017 1:42:00 AM)

Because Steam is a third party

durangokid -> RE: Why does Steam pricing not reflect .. (12/9/2017 11:54:52 AM)

But if they were set the same as Steam, perhaps more of us would shop here, which I would prefer to do. But probably like many, I have to shop where it's cheapest. Or does Steam just always undercut?

rico21 -> RE: Why does Steam pricing not reflect .. (12/9/2017 1:00:19 PM)

Steam, what's that?

Steam, what's that?

Steam is water in its gaseous form. Steam, for example, is formed when water boils.

Thanks for the explanation.
I thought that Steam was the thing that pumped everything on my computer under the guise of pseudo update.

Think of steam as very hot air.

Steam (software) - Wikipedia
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steam_(software)
Steam is a digital distribution platform developed by Valve Corporation, which offers digital rights management (DRM), multiplayer gaming, video streaming and social networking services. Steam provides the user with installation and automatic updating of games, and community features such as friends lists and groups, ...

There was a time, before Steam and during it's early days, when digital game software vendors would keep your software available to you for download for only a short period of time. If you lost it after that then, sucks to be you. Steam was one of them that has forced practically all digital game software vendors to make your game download available for an unlimited time. This had been a boon to us who buy our games in a digital form. Many of you have grown up with unlimited downloads for your digital games as an industry standard. You can thank companies like Valve for this.

Agree for that but what's happened if Steam disappear (hacking or bankruptcy) since they hold the games you bought?

I have a few (non-Matrix/Slitherine) games on steam, but as few as possible, because I have always been bugged by this prospect myself.

You don't need steam online to play your games. All you need is the original client. You can disconnect from the internet and still play these games due to the client being on your computer. All you need to protect yourself for the future is to save that client .exe file just like you would any matrixgame or slitherine game. and document any cd keys they show you when you are installing the game.

Edit: Oh and backup the steam apps common file from time to time as that stores all your games.

It was under my impression that the Matrix games on Steam are more expensive than here. The game I purchase from Matrix are cheaper here than on Steam either way.

Was not aware of that. I always bought my game in physical form before Steam. A friend of mine started talking to me about Steam, thats how I learned about it. It would seem kind of a rip off to buy a game and not have it available all the time.
I much prefer the physical copies either way. I miss those, when you had your collections, and expansion, all lining, and the cool box that came with the manuals..

I miss buying physical copies of games when I think about it..

IainMcNeil -> RE: Why does Steam pricing not reflect .. (12/11/2017 8:51:12 AM)

The reason steam pricing sometimes differs is on our site we set the prices in $ and do a real currency conversion. Sometimes it is higher and sometimes lower. Prices on Steam are not real currency conversions. They are historical and massaged to get what they think are the best results in each country. As their values are not the true conversion rates sometimes the prices differ. Steam also has different policy on sales and as a result sometimes their sales cant run as long as ours so then you get better prices with us. They also have limits on how much you can discount, so for example the new WW1 game from Fury is cheaper on our site than steam as they only allow a max 40% launch discount and we can have it at 50%.

Order of Battle: Panzerkrieg is currently £11.99 here. It is £10.99 on Steam. I got it for £7.25 when it launched on Steam because they had a sale on. It's not in the sale here because it has just been published.

Decisive Command games on Steam are £29.99. They are on sale on Matrix but are routinely £31.99.

That was just at a quick check. It does seem that Steam undercuts the prices here. However, I shop here when I can.
