fuselex -> General gameplay thread needed? (12/11/2017 1:16:56 PM)

Just thinking a sticky thread that gives players a general idea of tips and tricks would be handy .
The thread could be divided into AFV`s , MG`s , infantry and a whole host of other sections .
It would be nice for those who don`t have the experience in this type of game to come to a thread , say support weapons,
and read the comments under a German Panzer Faust.
It was a while ago but someone ( forgive me for not remembering who ). Explained that yes , it does have a range of
3 hexes , but you need to be performing some blood ritual to a deity to actually get a kill on a decent tank.
It can happen but don`t expect it .
At 2 hexes the odds are improving , but at 1 hex , these support weapons . which I was very frustrated with, started
to become very handy .
Tank warfare for example , in the defensive segment ,I hear tanks moving , the first one visible to my AFV is probably
going to get shot at :) . But am I better of waiting for that tank to stop , does that make my odds better to hit?.
Should I be moving when I shoot ? We have a nice tool tip for percentages to hit , but just a thread for someone who has just
picked up the game and, as I was wondering what the hell is a Panzer Faust good for :)

The appeal to the game is the incredible amount of options that are presented to the player during every turn . Should I move , should I fire , will I wait for them first ?
For those who have experience with this type of game ,It`s nearly second nature .
But for others, the manual explains the rules , but doesn`t give pointers in the general game play . ( The manual is fine Peter :)

And I should also mention the feel of the tips .
It shouldn`t be how to beat the AI , but to give players a broader understanding of the game :)

Against a light or medium tank the panzerfaust is effective. Against a heavy tank the weak point is the top of the tank, you can do it by pulling through a window located in a two-storey building.
Oh damn, in TOTH there is none![:D]

It's normal since this game is elitist![8D]
And we do not want it to change![:D]

That is exactly the information I would hope for , forgetting the 2 storey building , And the odds Rico is tormenting me :) .I now hope I have more of an idea , I presume now I really don`t have a chance of
taking out a heavy tank with a panzerfaust , but should a scenario come about with heavy and medium tanks the panzerfaust will now try to target the medium.
Once again, if Rico is not pulling my leg :) He has given a great tip that is useful to others in general play that I`m sure he would consider second nature .
And if he is tormenting me .
Well . I`m not really sure what I will do ,
But it will involve me drinking many more beers :)

and, height advantage is modeled in the game :)

I dare to dissent: from my tests, Panzerfaust are perfectly able to kill IS-2m's (see here).

Unfortunately, hard experience (e.g. trying to kill a Tiger with a BAZ43 is a useful learning tool [:D]) is the only way we have to know about the effectiveness of the equipment we use (without resorting to the tool Peter provided in Update4).

My personal AT weapon preference list is:
BAZ45
Panzerfaust (one-use only, but powerful)
BAZ44 / Panzerschreck (the latter is more powerful, but it is also prone to malfunction/removal)
PIAT
BAZ43 (almost useless against anything heavier than a PzIII, unless you get a side shot: even in that case, don't hope to kill a Tiger).
ATR (the most useless piece of junk in the game: I once hit a BT-5 five times in a row without ever penetrating its paper-thin armor)

1) Wait for the target tank to stop: it will be easier to hit. You can also wait longer and fire in the Defensive Fire Segment: perhaps there is another - and more dangerous - tank following. This is not true for infantry, which is an easier target while moving. As a rule of thumb, fire on infantry in the Movement segment and fire on tanks in the Defensive Fire segment.

2) Do not count on hitting anything when you fire from a moving tank, unless you are firing at 1-hex range (and even in that case, don't bet the house on it). Your ability to hit is seriously decreased after you move. The only reliable use for post-movement tank fire is to bring "Broken" units to "Broken+" status. In the '40s tank gyrostabilizers equipped many US tanks, but such devices were still in their infancy. Furthermore, crews were not always trained to use them and didn't like having the gun moving unpredictably on its own as it attempted to remain trained on the target. (All this said and done, I would like to have them :D).

Your best bet is to read and learn the system that TOTH is based upon... Starting with the starter kits and moving forward. Not all rules apply to TOTH but enough do that it will help.

And to answer your question... panzerfausts have a TK number of 31 so anything hit by them will have to have an armor rating of 25 or higher to stand a chance. Most tanks up to 44' will die, not until the really heavy armor tanks come does this even matter. But of course you first need to secure a hit. A T-34/85 has at best an 11 armor rating, IS-2 best is 18, and the ISU-152 best is 14... so you can see your real problem isn't the TK number but rather getting a sucessful hit with all of the modifiers that apply.. but that is best left to another discussion.

Hope that helps.

For those who do not want to be corrupted by the power of the ASL force and save money,[:D]
close your eyes and imagine yourself in panzerknacker, arm with your panzerfaust you hunt down the Soviet bears, yes I know, your life expectancy is short especially that all the AI of the world designates for priority target the AT.
You can open your eyes and remember this, you must avoid facing at the same time tanks and their accompanying infantry,[:-]
separate them or the story (of the game) will retain only your defeats.[sm=happy0005.gif]

nits that moved/didn't fire in the Fire Segment, may fire in the Advancing Fire Segment at reduced fire power. In addition, there is no Rate of Fire (meaning an eligible weapon may only fire once in the Advancing Fire Segment).

The game does model Height Advantage, if your personnel unit with say BAZ is at higher level than an AFV in adjacent hex, the BAZ will receive bonus.

Height Advantage is modeled for personnel units/support weapons/Ordnance/AFV.
