A full month+ into the war and things are looking good for you I think, well as good as they can look for the allied at this point of the war.
Anything that is not a full blown disaster is good when you are Churchill a la 1942.

Your poking at the fringes of the Japanese advance with carriers and surfaces forces may help slow Japanese advance
..or maybe they are shrugged off, or perhaps it is too early to tell. Anyhow it must be more fun and fulfilling to be active in any scale then passively reacting.

“The Dutch are as ready as I can make them. I have no plans to Sir Robin…”

An admirable approach, just remember that Surabaya easily becomes a death trap when defending Java, Batavia and the western of the Island can (sometimes) hold longer.

Disclaimer : All advise given in my posts are subject to distortion of view, neglecting of facts, ignoring experience – both of others and own and most likely also arbitrary

China reflections :

If wonder what the Japanese strategy for China is.

To me it seems that quite a few Japanese assets are committed in the Yenan / Paotow area. This area holds little or no strategic value for either part, as it hold no industry and few resources.

The only strategic value I see in this area is if as Japanese you want to make an enveloping move north of Sian towards the Chengtu / Chunking area. Such wide hook could also lay the way open
to an advance north. If large Chinese forces can be caught in the Sian area, it will be difficult to stop a Japanese advance into the Chinese heartland.

If a threat of envelopment looms I would only defend the Sian area lightly - here I like your idea about a sort of Guerilla warfare with small scattered Chinese forces threating to supply lines.
I would however say that to some extend such a threat is more psychologic than a real threat to the Japanese, but it very hard as Japanese to not get distracted by such marauders behind the main front line.

Still war is only a month old and it seems like a lot of Japanese assets in China are still to be found – what about the armor in Manchuria, that is relative cheap to buy out as the Japanese.
Do you use some bombers as recon to the south?

There is the possibility of a second front opening up to the south .. or maybe your opponent is willing to put the whole China front on a backburner, which means he must push harder somewhere else fast.

With the push into Burma I would be looking at defending the mountain bases from Burma into Kunming. I find this area to be more important to try to hold on to as Chinese than the Chungking area.
If the allied can hold onto Northern Burma and make a late 42 early 43 push back south, then the opening of the Burma road will make surviving Chinese units here much more valuable than Chinese units
caught up in remote wooded areas.

I would any day try bring my best Chinese units into defensive positions to hold Kunming from both threats coming from a Japanese advance in China but also from Burma.
Also make sure that the dot bases south of Kunming is held, as this will keep potential Japanese airbases at a distance of Kunming – it will help any air supply to come in.

In our game you held on expertly to Northern Burma and rebounded back south too fast for my liking.

If your opponent is going for India a strong Chinese presence in the mountains will help distract some assets here.

Great to see you here sir. The game is very slow at the moment. I'm at work so cannot respond
to your posts in depth. I will in the near future, some here, some via email. fcharton is leaving
for 2 week holiday today and I am unsure whether I will be "engaged" in AE or not for some days.
fortunately I do hold the turn now so I will be able to plan more. You are welcome to the file and
password should you desire the "behind the curtain" view as well.
Sincerely, (your victim)lol

zuluhour -> RE: ALLIED SIDE ZULUHOUR(A) FCHARTON (J) NO FCHARTON (3/11/2018 12:27:09 PM)

I should have posted a note showing 16 more units preparing to cross the causeway into Singapore. Still to
early to be sure but I think he has eyes in the CBI as opposed to a large Pacific conquest or an all in on
Australia.

Notes: Chinese are moving to counter attack salient north of Changsha. I am close to ordering units into
Burma. There are strong elements in NorPac and come spring maybe where I try to begin to right the
ship.

He is in Singapore early but as long as you have supplies it looks like you can hold out.

zuluhour -> RE: ALLIED SIDE ZULUHOUR(A) FCHARTON (J) NO FCHARTON (3/19/2018 1:37:33 AM)

Singapore has about 90,ooo supply points on hand. I wish now the two brigades wiped out early
in northern Malaya were in the perimeter now. Bataan has about 28,ooo but dwindling fast.

Since he had few ground loses does it appear he had landed the majority of forces already? A great strike you must have sprinted those two carriers there. I landed at Palmebang a little later and covered it with 6 carriers and also from Singapore and Singkawa. So it appears he risked a rapid invasion and let his amphib TF fend for itself mostly in regards to air cover.

zuluhour -> RE: ALLIED SIDE ZULUHOUR(A) FCHARTON (J) NO FCHARTON (3/20/2018 2:08:23 AM)

Francois got something like 2200 men ashore. I believe I decimated the division however he has enough to do the job.
I'm guessing there may be a supply issue and he may feel a need to withdraw his transports as I don't believe he has
anything that can challenge me in the next 24 hours without becoming really exposed. I am thankful to make Palembang
a costly venture. Big E and Lex were waiting just to the lee of Christmas Island IO to pounce on a Java landing. The intel
and the naval search allowed me to shift easily to the north and deliver some punishment.
