All,

Is there any specific way to model commercial aircraft traffic in CMANO? I'm trying to model US air traffic on the West Coast and am finding it extremely difficult to obtain information about routes, flight numbers, and aircraft types. And how exactly should I model commercial aircraft in the game? Should all aircraft be included or only major airports near the scenario?

Also, is there any way to edit the altitude of an aircraft upon placement in the scenario?

In most cases you only need to represent civilian traffic with a small number of flights, trying to replicate all on the west coast would be hundreds at a time, thousands over a day.

A way I've used is airport to airport ferry missions, and set your ready times to roughly mirror the schedules, you can set the altitude in a ferry mission.

Hope that helps

The way I have done it is to add a dozen or so Single-Unit airfields at locations of real airports, then add several civilian aircraft to each of them. Stagger the ready times so the aircraft won't all take-off at once. Then, you can create a random ferry mission with all the airports as destinations and all the aircraft assigned. This should result in enough traffic to require the player to get positive ID before shooting.

If you want to actually model airways/routes/etc, it would be possible to do that using support missions, combined with a trigger to change an aircraft home base to it's intended destination. However, that almost seems like too much work for a busy scenario. I'd only go to that level of effort if you wanted to play tricks on the player, like have Backfires fly on civilian routes to disguise their ID.

Here is a some what related thread re: commercial shipping.

Check this site out. It might help.

That is how I have done mine as well. Flightware is gold.

I did this but with a twist.
So say I had a route between Tokyo and Singapore. I looked up what aircraft JAL and SIA used in the 80's. I then assigned the SIA aircraft to Changi and the JAL aircraft to Narita. I placed the JAL aircraft near the end of the route near Singapore and the SIA near the end of the route near Tokyo. I then created the route (mission) and assigned both aircraft to it and gave it a Random interval. It worked, kind of. The aircraft would fly back to their assigned airports instead of landing at the terminus of the route. Yes, I only expected one of them to do that because of how the mission creator assigns the TO airport based on the airport selected. Regardless, after the planes complete their readying they take off, do an orbit of their home airport then immediately land. They don't do a random cycle though that is selected for the mission.

Anyone know why?
