New player: tutorial worth it? (Full Version)

Hello folks,

Got the game yesterday plus the expansions for an irresistible price after reading about it for a long time already. I've seen some people say that maybe the tutorial is overly complex and I'm worried about it being outdated? (Am I correct believing the pdf has not been updated with patches?) so I played Road to Minsk on easy yesterday and captured all objectives. I took a look at some tutorials at thestrategygamer.com and I have a decent military history background. Have not played witw or witp though.

So my question boils down to the following:
As a new player, running the latest public beta, would you recommend me to still run the included tutorial or is it outdated and confusing and will it not be worth the time investment? If so: any other recommendations?

Absolutely: Skip the tutorial !!!
Learn how to move, to attack and play the tutorial scenario but without reading the tutorial manual.
Then play Road to Minsk. Test air ops, recon, bombing enemy airfields. Learn the basic about logistics, and emergency air resupply.
Then play Road to Leninngrad several times. You will learn the enjoyable way instead of the painful one :-)
And ask questions :-)

What nukkxx said, the Road to Misk is the most effective and true starting tutorial and definitely more fun. the other "road to ... scenarios will also help you learn the gist with focus, and don't be afraid to start a grand campaign!!!
making mistakes is natural, once you fell confident enough just start a grand campaign as Germans and do your best, reflect on what you could do better, read some AAR and test your might! :)

Look at some of the AAR’s in this forum. This is most definitely the most detailed and complicated game at least I have ever played. Playing the tutorials provides a feel for game mechanics, and the mechanics for pushing counters has its own quirks. Once you are comfortable with those basics.. logistics ..AirPower ...support units the blizzard are all details to be mastered...after that . Then read the AAR’s again ;)

After road to Minsk I ended up playing Road to Leningrad with the Bootcamp tutorial to guide along the first two turns and the rest on my own. Followed that up with 3 turn scenario Case Blue phase 1 that went well also. Those were all on easy with no fog of war though so then I did Sturgeon Catch on Normal but with 110 for Morale and Logistics plus fog of war.

Also went OK except my main complaint in that one as well as Case Blue phase 1 was the restricted map area creating a lack of maneuvering room so now I've decided to just be crazy and start a grand campaign. Plenty of room now [:D]. To make it a bit easier though I am sticking with the 110 Morale/Logistics (vs 100) and the Reduced blizzard and no Soviet bonus.

We'll see how it goes as there are of course plenty of things I don't know yet. Have been reading some AARs though which has been insightful.

Really enjoying WITE so far :)

I played RTMinsk a couple of times, then RTLenningrad 3 times and then I started my first GC as Germans. And guess what ? I'm having an incredible fun. I'm at turn 17, stuck in the mud and challenged by logistic and strategy :-). Incredible game. Moscow is 10 hexes away ! hahaha
Seriously, the best wargame I ever played.
