siRkid -> New Screen Shot (5/27/2003 10:06:06 AM)

See attached.

Platoonist -> (5/27/2003 11:25:19 AM)

Interesting.....There's old Hong Kong and over there is my chance to mine Haiphong harbor.

Zakhal -> (5/27/2003 11:28:55 AM)

Lots of roads there, glad its not all jungle.

Tanaka -> (5/28/2003 11:16:07 AM)

Love the new terrain types!!! Maps are looking great!!! :D

Raverdave -> (5/28/2003 11:21:26 AM)

Thanks for the post Kid! Looking good guys...looking real good !:cool:

Drongo -> (5/28/2003 2:33:37 PM)

If only they would consider an alternative to the black roads going through dark jungle. I'm sick of squinting when I look at the area around Southern China and Indochina. :(

Is it possible to add street lights?

Raverdave -> (5/28/2003 2:38:36 PM)

Your old age is showing!:D

siRkid -> (6/1/2003 2:18:01 AM)

Another one

Mr.Frag -> (6/1/2003 2:30:17 AM)

Now THAT is a screen shot!!! :cool:

Mike Scholl -> I'm CONFUSED. (6/1/2003 6:27:56 AM)

Can someone tell me what that "hairpin highway" down the
Vietnamese Highlands is supposed to be? The Ho Chi Minh Trail?
Got to check my maps to be sure, but as I recall what infrastructure the French built in Indo-China was pretty much coastal, with inland transport primarily by river,. A lot of what's
on the map shown doesn't look right at all.

TIMJOT -> (6/1/2003 9:49:01 AM)

I agree with Mike, I dont want to nit pick a Alpha map, but I have to assume one reason to post them other than to wet our apetite is to critique it.

That being said, whats that major highway down the east coast of Malaya? In reality, there were good roads on the west coast but practically nothing on the east. Thats why the 25th Army had to land so far north, to cut across the Krau Ismus and drive down the west coast. That highway from Khoto Bahru, will make it too easy for the Japanese to make a beeline to Singapore. At the very most it should be a trail not major road.

The railroad down the middle of Malaya is accurate, just curious how rail movement is going to be handled in the game.

Mike Scholl -> AMEN.... (6/1/2003 10:28:07 AM)

Timjot pointed out another one that had caught my attention
as well. The East Coast of Malaya is as much as anything a swamp, recieving 100's of inches of rain a year. The West coast
is in the "rain shadow" of Sumatra, and much drier. Virtually all
development and infrastructure was along the West Coast---
so what is this "US 1" down the East side?

My to-be empire!!!

Von Rom -> (6/1/2003 10:26:45 PM)

What a monster :eek:

I'd better start stocking up on food supplies now. It'll help prepare me for the logistics. . .

Poindexter -> Yowza (6/2/2003 12:09:47 AM)

Awesome map. I think my A-hole just puckered, though. How I am supposed to manage all a 'dat??

pad152 -> River Movement? (6/3/2003 1:13:35 PM)

Looking at the new map screen shot, is there any type of river movement?

Can you use barges to move troop/supplies through rivers?

showboat1 -> (6/6/2003 8:46:36 PM)

I love that on the screen shot there is Hong Kong Fort! Apparently fortifications are in, thought they may be truly ineffective, it will be cool to have them. I also love the Ice Cap shown on the second screen shot.

Because of the combat system, the effect rivers have is when you cross them. Your disruption and fatigue goes up if you cross somewhere other than a crossing.

Just in case that is not what you were asking, try this - there are curently no river boats and no movement alomg rivers except at specialy designate places, like near ports.

Point Luck -> Question (6/7/2003 6:52:01 AM)

I have a question What are the red lines running through the map in the last posted screen shot. They appear to indicate some kind of zone.

THANKS

Yes those are zones that you can assign to the computer. Lets say you don't want to bother with the Chinese, you can let the computer control them for you.

This seems to me to have the danger of creating the old "Third Reich" problem. There, the three major theaters of ETO were divided by lines (for purposes of determining major power options and allocation of basic resource points). Inevitably, the location of the lines created problems in terms of force control, mission assignment, and a whole host of other "kinks" (for example, you could use the arbitrary theater division line as a kind of "neutral country" barrier to prevent your enemy from defeating a weakly held position without expending an outrageous, and sometimes game-busting, number of BRPs).

In WITP, I sure would rather have seen division of responsibilities along headquarters lines rather than on geographic ones. I mentioned a long time ago the need for the UV system to be augmented with actual functions for headquarters that constrain players to act within some historical command and control framework. If the substitute in WITP is raw geographical division of responsibility, I think that the game will be diminished in quality, historical flavor, and playability.

Even PacWar imposed some constraints on freedom of command and movement, flawed though the effort was. If WITP allows freewheeling reassignment of forces (particularly ground forces) at player whim, I see trouble right here in River City, and that starts with "T," which rhymes with "C," and that stands for "Command limitations."

Besides, I was hoping for graphic depiction of weather zones, so that I won't have to depend on little symbols popping up at random all over the map fleetingly telling me where things can fly and where they can't.

Point Luck -> HEY KID! (6/7/2003 7:00:44 PM)

THANKS for the info

I have only one comment

HURRY UP PLEASE I NEED THIS GAME

Love playing UV, but it's not a large enough scale for me. Being one of those anal engineer types I need things BIG and Intense.

I've already have been playing edited PBEM scenarios in UV. This has allowed my opponent and me the ability to practice PBEM games with massive asset capability, but in a limited operational theater. A hellve lot of fun, but a bit too far away from historical reality. I can't wait to get a hold of the editor on this one

Now I need more room, more stuff and more time.
