Sabre21 -> ChiComs (1/15/2018 8:31:27 PM)

On several occasions now, both during Netplay and also in solo games, there have been times when I have been unable to select any of the Chicom units for movement.

I first noticed this during a Netplay game when it was a Soviet turn to move. I scroll over to China only to find out unable to select any red Chinese. I can move the Soviet units and even the Mongolian Cav, but the chicomms would be frozen in place. It doesn't happen very often, and reloading the game doesn't always fix the issue.

I talked with the guy I play netplay with (Bill) this morning and he told me it happened in his solo game twice yesterday. So far it has happened 3 times in netplay games and once in a solo game for me.

Has anyone else see this occur? So far Bill and I have only seen it occur with the Chicoms, no other nationality.

No, I have not had that happen. I have always been able to move the ChiComs with USSR land moves. One consideration is that until USSR is at war, they can only do a Combined and that often does not leave enough land moves for both. Not sure if that has any cause in this.

Perhaps this is the issue?
Despite using USSR limits for impulses the Chicoms are still restricted by what the Nat China does. If Nat China passes or takes an air phase then you will not be able to move any Chitcom no matter what impulse the USSR chooses.

I will give it a try. I find that Nat China pretty much always takes a Land. The exception would be the Pass and it is likely that USSR would also take a pass. There might be a reason for a Combined, such has having a CONV, TRS or SUB, but those will be rare enough. I can not imagine any practical reason for an AIR since the Combined is likely sufficient.

However, I can try a test phase to see what happens.

FYI, I am using 2.7.1, so results may be different.

This is the only reason I can think of.
RAC 20. CHINESE COMMUNISTS
Communist Chinese units may not move if China takes a Pass action. This is true even if the USSR does not Pass. If the USSR is incompletely or completely conquered, the Communist Chinese activity limits are ½ that of the USSR.

Both myself and Bill have been using 2.7.1 and just to answer a couple of the above questions, the Soviets had some or all of their moves available even though the Red Chinese could not be selected. As for the nationalist Chinese, they almost always do a land move in our games, only time I've ever passed with them was when weather was horrific and/or just trying to get the turn over with.
