The Manual explains the entrenchment modifiers below;

"It requires fifty construction points to build each fort level, with one point represents two percent of the needed construction. The construction value of a unit is modified based on the current fort level of the hex, the terrain of the hex, and the weather to determine the number of construction points it provides as follows (effects are cumulative):
 Fort level 0 - x 3
 Fort level 1 - x 1
 Fort level 2 - x .33
 Fort level 3 - x .10
 Fort level 4 - x .02"

The question I have is, do the modifiers apply when the entrenchment is building to that entrenchment level? Or do they apply while the entrenchment is building to that level?

To clarify, if I have an entrenchment at '0'(+25%) building towards becoming an entrenchment '1', does the modifier x3 apply, since it is already an entrenchment of '0', or does the modifier of x1 apply because it is attempting to become an entrenchment of '1'?

It is from the present fort level, otherwise the range would be 1-5; not 0-4.

the entrenchment levels are 0-5 with 5 providing no bonus since it is top level. I have always used current level as the bonus but one of the expert book worms can clarify :)

Yes, fort levels are 0-5
However the fort levels used to calculate construction multipliers are given as 0-4 in the manual.

Thanks.

Now for another question. What happens to the construction points not used, when your fort level changes over to the next level?

You are at Fort level "0"+(94%), your units in the hex have 10 construction points, before modifiers. Does that mean you have 30 construction points and end up at fort level "1"+(54%)? Or Fort level "1"+(18%)?

How does the computer process this? Because the computer would have to, tally construction points multiply by 3, add them to see how much is needed, subtract how many are not needed to complete the fort level, then divide them by 3, and then start the whole thing again for the next fort level.

Damn, gets confusing for my grey matter, and makes me realize just how conscientious the programmers have to be about recording every step, and every possible step for a program may do (ok enough with the "Wargame Programmer Appreciation Day"; lets just make it a "take your wargame programmer out for a cyber-lunch day")!

Why? The real numbering system always start at "zero". That is how I learned it in school & if you ever get into programming or Networking you will quickly realize that you start with "zero" there too ;-)

Forts are built point by point, and for every point cost is determined from scratch. Basically the code always uses construction value x 3 as your "resource", and you pay 1 point when below 1.10%, 3 points when below 2.10% etc
