styer27 -> A few newbie questions (1/29/2018 4:28:43 AM)

Hi guys, please excuse me if some of these questions are already in the forum, ive read so much already but still have some things i couldn't find info on.

1. I have a LCDR with a air skill of 80, i wish he would get promoted so i can place him on a CV, what is the easiest way to do this?

2. For large scale land battles, what is the common used procedure? Ive been bombarding for a few turns before a direct assault, then if i get a good result for a few days in a row, ill shock attack. I rest once i have over 50 fatigue. Also, what is most effective way to increase your chances of fortress reduction without using engineers?

3. What is the best way to prevent a submarine from reverting from "remain on station" automatically, even if 90% fuel, no damage and full ammo? ive tried all types of speed and reaction settings, but about 20% of them seem to turn back far too early. im having to micro manage them which is a pain.

4. Any tips against B-17's would be appreciated, im suffering horrendous losses from them, too risky to send CV's to protect transport fleets. And any islands close to Australia are very costly to occupy. Ive thought about bombing Darwin but that would only give me a few days window before its repaired. The cannons on the "Nick" work well but is there anything more i should know?

5. Ive Found subchasers and Patrol craft seem to encounter far less SS compared to DD's, Is this because of the extra speed or just the captain of ship/TF? Should i focus soley on aggression for the small subhunters to increase this?

6. is there an optimal altitude to drop paratroopers? also supply.

7. If someone invades me, then gets defeated, do i keep the supplies they unloaded?

8. Does increasing your soviet level lessen the chance they will attack? or can i just hover it at 8000 without any risk? I know i dont have to worry till 1945 but any info on reducing this by weeks/months would be handy.

9. If wishing to reduce coastal defense guns on an enemy atoll, do i bombard port or ground with my planes? Also does bombard missions prioritize CD guns?

10. Im scared to accept anyone in a capitol ship with aggression in the 90's for fear they will be kamikaze type suicide captains, is this a correct view to have? im assuming high agg SS captains will engage more on surface and therefore get more return fire? does 99 agg mean"stupidly" aggressive, or "expertly" aggressive?

11. You have a damaged CA with 60-sys and 60-flt, hes 2 weeks from the nearest port, do you use cruise speed or mission for best chances to make it alive? Does sending a AR to meet with it asap increase its chances of survival? Does sending an AG, AS or AR to a sub to "hover" over the sub (as you cant join formations) increase its chance?

12. I had a CA squadron once encounter a troop ship patrol, bu then disengage from combat without a shot. When i checked them it was because they had 0 secondary ammunition, but the primary 8inch hadn't been fired once. Is there a way to force them to fire in this situation? They kept retreating for multiple turns, and i had to give up and go home to rearm.

13. Which do i trust for most reliable battle results. The visuals, the after action report, the operations page, or the information tab? they all seem to differ haha, very realistic i love it.

14. When i see an aircraft "peels away on fire" im guessing its only like 5% chance they survived, if that. Am i thinking wrong, is it higher? That would be confirmed kill in RL, but im assuming its not in WiTP correct?

Any help would be appreciated, more i get to know this game more i fall in love with it.

Nobody knows methinks. I doubt commanders eligible for commanding are ever promoted. Rank and file pilots do. But with time you get better ones in the roster, as Allies at least

2. For large scale land battles, what is the common used procedure? Ive been bombarding for a few turns before a direct assault, then if i get a good result for a few days in a row, ill shock attack. Pretty much this. Bring more support and bomb to prevent forts from rebuilding and get more disrupted defenders. 1:1 or better (or was it 2:1) assaults can reduce forts w/o engineers

3. What is the best way to prevent a submarine from reverting from "remain on station" automatically, even if 90% fuel, no damage and full ammo? ive tried all types of speed and reaction settings, but about 20% of them seem to turn back far too early. im having to micro manage them which is a pain.
Use partol in the hex instead. And set closer home port so that sub does not freak out about fuel needs to get home

4. Any tips against B-17's would be appreciated, im suffering horrendous losses from them, too risky to send CV's to protect transport fleets. Fighters with cannons, AA and attrition. 4Es are in short supply for the Allies

5. Ive Found subchasers and Patrol craft seem to encounter far less SS compared to DD's, Is this because of the extra speed or just the captain of ship/TF? Should i focus soley on aggression for the small subhunters to increase this?
Both skills and speed. I do not use DDs for ASW anyway, too few of them. Train your bomber airforce instead

6. is there an optimal altitude to drop paratroopers? also supply.
Dunno

7. If someone invades me, then gets defeated, do i keep the supplies they unloaded?
No, they are all inside LCUs so they are all lost when LCUs are destroyed. Which is a bummer

8. Does increasing your soviet level lessen the chance they will attack? or can i just hover it at 8000 without any risk? I know i dont have to worry till 1945 but any info on reducing this by weeks/months would be handy.
8000+ means no activation. Less means a chance of activation each turn

9. If wishing to reduce coastal defense guns on an enemy atoll, do i bombard port or ground with my planes? Also does bombard missions prioritize CD guns?
Yes, bombarding often tangles with CD guns. Heavier ships firing from distance minimize the risk of getting shelled in retaliation

Whetever combat expertise is there in the naval skill. Aggression means just that TF commander will be later to disengage. Can be both ends of the stick

Cruise + having at least one escorting ship to save the captain + prayer. Japan needs a lot of the latter. AR does nothing if at sea. Subs are on their own at all times

12. I had a CA squadron once encounter a troop ship patrol, bu then disengage from combat without a shot. Probably not. TF commander aggression would matter here too

13. Which do i trust for most reliable battle results. The visuals, the after action report, the operations page, or the information tab? they all seem to differ haha, very realistic i love it.
Sea battle? Visuals + action report. Any hit with a torp will put enemy ship on sunk list in the information tab heh

14. When i see an aircraft "peels away on fire" im guessing its only like 5% chance they survived, if that. Am i thinking wrong, is it higher? That would be confirmed kill in RL, but im assuming its not in WiTP correct?
Nobody knows the percentages in this game
