Crossroads -> CS Middle East 2.0 - QUICK-FIX UPDATE (2/3/2018 9:48:17 AM)

Updated 21 March 2018: This is now obsolete, as the official 2.01 UPDATE is now available. Please deactivate this mod with JSGME before proceeding to install 2.01 UPDATE via game launcher.

Everyone,

Here's a quick-fix update packaged as a JSGME mod that fixes some of the known issues with the Middle East 2.0 game.

Contents:

  • Adds the missing Front End Music File
  • Fixes the encrypted Platoon files (OBX) that were missing a last data line.
  • Adds re-encrypted Campaign, Main, and Weapon data files too.
  • Removes accented letters from Order of Battle files (OOB) that display incorrectly on Organization Editor
  • Adds a new set of default Unit Pictures (nation map and flag) that don't display the Magenta border on Unit Viewer
  • Fixes a Bootcamp 4 Event Engine error
  • Provides a new set of Teaching Set scenarios, with added Leaders, and a tighter margin for victory levels.
  • Fixes label typos on three Ode to Divided Ground maps (Khan Yunis area, Jerusalem)

    >>> Edit: DOWNLOAD REMOVED

    Installation

  • Download the zip file from the link available above
  • Unzip, and place the _CS Middle East 2.0 QUICK-FIX UPDATE folder to \mods folder, at game root folder (Picture 1, below)
  • Locate JSGME.exe from your game root, launch it, and activate the UPDATE by moving it to right window. Say Yes to the warning of files being overwritten in case that pops up. Picture 2, below).
  • And that's it, you're good to go!

    Fixes awaiting the official 2.01 UPDATE

    There's a couple of identified bugs in Event Engine - Game Engine communication. Here's the current workaround for them:

    Exit Hexes not recording Victory points

  • Symptom: Victory points not being written to save files when ending the turn.
  • Workaround: Upon having exited your troops for the turn: 1. Save file, 2. Exit scenario, 3. Load scenario, End Turn, then continue.

    Play-by-Email save files being concatenated if Replay not watched

  • Symptom: PBME save files (*.BTE) become corrupt as Reinforcement data at the end of file becomes concatenated
  • Workaround: Always opt to watch opponents move when prompted by Replay dialog. If the save file has already become concatenated / corrupt, continue from a previous save file that loads.
    [image]local://upfiles/32195/87A1F9F87A224AE98B767FD04A78990A.jpg[/image]

    Unit Viewer doesn't load

  • Symptom: when activating Unit Viewer, it throws an error saying "Path to game not found. Check if you installed Campaign Series properly! Utility will be terminated!"
  • Workaround: Provide manually the proper path to your game install at \tools\CS_UnitViewer\settings.txt.

    Here's a listing of known bugs that will require code changes:

  • Crewed Boats can't be loaded to Engineering Trucks
  • Battle Generator mistakenly has "Company" as a random scenario size option. They should start from "Battalion".

    Crossroads -> RE: CS Middle East 2.0 - QUICK-FIX UPDATE (2/3/2018 10:26:16 AM)

    I hope this quick-fix goes some way in alleviating some of the known issues with the new game version. An official 2.01 UPDATE to become available soonish, we'll wait a tad to see if there's any other bugs that haven't surfaced yet.

    Any questions about installing the quick-fix, or what not, just give us a holler!

    z1812 -> RE: CS Middle East 2.0 - QUICK-FIX UPDATE (2/28/2018 4:48:15 PM)

    How would I install this without JSGME. I prefer not to install JSGME simply to update a game.

    Will this be the way updates will be installed from now on?

    Will 2.01 also be a JSGME update? There should be an option for those who simply want to install the update without JSGME.

    berto -> RE: CS Middle East 2.0 - QUICK-FIX UPDATE (2/28/2018 5:12:26 PM)

    You don't need to "install JSGME" yourself. It's already included in the standard install, in the top-level game folder. In Windows Explorer, simply double click on the JSGME EXE, and you're good to enable/disable mods as you please. Easy!

    Or do you have some other objection to using JSGME?

    Note that when the QUICK-FIX-UPDATE morphs into the CSME 2.01 update patch (coming soon), it will employ the standard Matrix update patch mechanism, no JSGME required.

    Philippeatbay -> RE: CS Middle East 2.0 - QUICK-FIX UPDATE (2/28/2018 5:50:03 PM)

    I am not a JSGME fanboy. I generally dislike using it and usually refuse to adapt my mods to it. My mods tend to use a lot of notes that people need to be aware of and that are much too long for the JSGME format. I make a lot of flag mods and there are often one or more detailed notes for the flag of each country.

    But for this particular game JSGME makes a lot of sense and is trivial to install. Since the latest incarnation of the game engine seems to be built with JSGME in mind, I consider it to be fairly integral rather than a questionable add-on. If I ever finish the labor-intensive counter mod that I'm currently working on, I'll structure it for JSGME use rather than using my usual semi-automatic manual approach with lots of notes.

    So my advice is to hold your nose and install it. I'm a computer primitive who sacrifices virgins to the bad-sector god, but it only took me about three minutes to get JSGME up and running. My only complaint about it at this point is that it means I have two CSME shortcuts on my over-crowded desktop instead of one. And I'm happy to report that nothing prevents me from continuing to dislike it, even though it is extremely useful for this particular game (only).

    Yes, QUICK-FIX-UPDATE really is a sort of a public beta for the CSME 2.01 update patch. Think of it as such (minus the new executables). The official 2.01 update is not hopefully too far in the future, so if you are not having any issues with those scenarios you like to play - and they are the majority - why not wait for the official update.

    It could be as soon as in two-three weeks (here's hoping!)

    CS Middle East 2.01 UPDATE is now being created by Matrix Games based on the update package we created. Once there's a working version of the installer, we'll vet it, and then it is up to Matrix Games to have it public. I am hoping it would be out in two weeks time, more or less.

    Here's an early reminder: Please deactivate the Quick-Fix Update using JSGME, before installing the 2.01 UPDATE. If you have downloaded and installed it, that is. I'd probably not go throught that anymore, with the official update getting closer.

    Hello budd, to clarify:

    Opening post of this introduced a Quick-Fix download, basicallly a mod with some fixed data files to activate with JSGME. 2.01 Open beta, if you will.

    Those who i) downloaded that, ii) put it to their mod folder, then iii) activated it with JSGME, need to iv) deactivate it before v) installing the upcoming official 2.01 UPDATE.

    Makes more sense now?
