I find the manual sadly lacking in a clear explanation of what the various parts of the combat predictions window shows. Am I correct in my interpretation shown below?

Also, under each of the defenders and attackers predicted strength loss numbers there are some formulae with various abbreviations. Is there any summary of what these abbreviations mean? I'm trying to get a better handle on combat so that I make better decision when planning my attacks/defence.

I believe you are correct with the primary values.
Sometimes these values are off if there are unknown factors.

I too would like to know what the abbreviations are.

Your primary values assessment is correct and for the rest it would be the following based on the Combat Target Values information section for each unit type:

SA - Soft Attack
HA - Hard Attack
ARTA - Artillery Attack
SARTA - Strategic Artillery Attack
RA - Rocket Attack
TA - Tank Attack
FA - Fighter Attack
BA - Bomber Attack
STRA - Strategic Bomber Attack
KA - Kamikaze Attack
NA - Naval Attack
CA - Carrier Attack
SUA - Sub Attack
TRA - Transport Attack
AAA - Anti-Aircraft Attack
RESA - Resource Attack

SD - Soft Defense
HD - Hard Defense
ARTD - Artillery Defense
SARTD - Strategic Artillery Defense
RD - Rocket Defense
TD - Tank Defense
FD - Fighter Defense
BD - Bomber Defense
STRD - Strategic Bomber Defense
KD - Kamikaze Defense
ND - Naval Defense
CD - Carrier Defense
SUD - Sub Defense
TRD - Transport Defense
AAD - Anti-Aircraft Defense
RESD - Resource Defense

thanx Hubert,

is there something like a table for defense bonus or river crossing modificators too? Sometimes I can see some more values and at least to me it is not always as clear as it shoudl be. Unfortunately the manual is not very clear. And AFAIK you can always get battleresults that are a little bit different. But I never (!) get more than expected but sometimes my unit loses one point more than expected. Only exception: I attack a unit with strenght 1 but my unit is very weak and shouldn't do any damage at all. Sometimes - to my big surprise - the enemy unit is still shattered.

But as said... I never saw a unit losing 2 points from full strenght if just 1 was expected.

Thanks Hubert - that's useful. So, are the numbers after these, e.g in the picture RESA=2, the modified attack/defence value associated with the battle in question? Sometimes I see a formula there, is that the calculation of the modified attack/defence values taking all factors into account, e.g. defence bonus/terrain effects etc.?

+1 - would like more information, such as what the numbers mean

Also, when I bring up the dialog showing the unit’s stats, what do the numbers in [brackets) represent?

Great game - just picked it up based on the discussion here and enjoying reading the manuals and learning as I go.

Keep up the great work!

Hi Zenra

Great to hear you're enjoying the game! [:)]

The numbers in brackets refer to the unit stats with research upgrades applied, as compared to the units' base stats (i.e. when it has no upgrades).

Bill
