TheeWarLord -> cloaked playbacks? (2/15/2018 1:05:56 AM)

Is it possible to resolve your turns with unit invisibility on, then on playback, the opponent is unable to access/view the opponent's turn? I think this happened to me during last game play. But because I used the online PBEM++, and I started my turn, I can't recheck. If this is the case, this a borderline cheat, and ruins playback enjoyment. Advise

Whether or not the units are invisible is saved by the game engine in the INI file and
so whether or not your opponent has units invislble is irrelevant to whether or not your
units are invisible or not. Two different systems, two different switches, two different
INI files, etc. I'm not positive, but I doubt your opponent can effect whether or not
you see the units.

Hmm, units on playback unseen, sound effects heard, once playback was completed, and start turn sequence completed, all units in invisibility mode. I had to switch off to view units.

I took a look at my INI file and I didn't find a switch for invisibility
in the entire file. I was wrong about the game engine saving the state
of visibility. So I'm guessing that maybe your opponent had the switch
turned to the invisible position just before the file was saved. I'm
guessing whatever I say.

If this was the first and only time it has happened, I would have asked my opponent first what might have happened (if you haven't already [;)]). It maybe something as simple as he was looking at his supply situation with units invisible and before restoring them he ended the turn. If it's happened multiple turns, then that would set a pattern of bad behavior.

Thanks for the all the replies, interesting thing is, he is a Chinese player, and does not write English. And I certainly do not write nor speak Chinese. Since that occurrence he/she has not sent their return file, and its going on five days. I wanted to check to see if anyone else had experienced this. Marion61, I'm more in tune with your post. To Be Continued!

Couldn't you test this for yourself using a small scenario in hot seat?

I'm attaching here below the saved game file for my D21 game and I need
somebody to load it in their game engine to see if it's invisible because
I made sure that the units were invisible when I saved it.

You're welcome.

I too have had a "cloaked" playback. Had to hit space bar once I exited playback to view units.

Using the public release of TOAW IV.

As far as I recall what you can see during playback is based on what is explained here: 9.1.5. Intelligence Gathering (Advanced Rules)

You should never be able to see all of your opponents moves.

TheeWarLord -> RE: cloaked playbacks? (2/17/2018 3:00:31 PM)

As written earlier, only map displayed, no units. After start sequence was completed the unit invisibility mode was on, and it had to be turned off to continue.

Lobster -> RE: cloaked playbacks? (2/18/2018 4:16:02 AM)

Well, unit visibility isn't part of the .ini file as far as I can see. It would have helped keeping the playback but PBEM++ limits what you can do afaik. You should always be able to see units limited by 9.1.5. Perhaps someone has found a way to exploit the system to disable your ability to see their units so I will report this as a possible bug.
