Ladies and Gentlemen,

As the title says, I'm making a COIN mission and I have some insurgent units roving the AO to add ambiance. Some of these are AAA units that I want to make things that little bit harder for the player. However, while the units (mainly ZSU mounted technicals and armoured vehicles) do move around on their patrols they don';t shoot at any of the player's units.

In testing I hovered a helicopter 200 feet above the ground as one of these armoured vehicles drove underneath it, and despite them seeing and classifying the helo as hostile they don't shoot.

I ordered the unit to attack (shift + F1) and I saw nothing saying that the vehicle couldn't attack, but even after queuing up some rounds it didn't engage.

Can anyone think of a solution?

I have played around with this a lot.. a few pointers.

1- Set ROE (at least for land units) to weapons free.
2- Set to engage targets of opportunity.
3. Set to engage ambiguous targets...it is difficult to raise the level of detection to "perfect" without radar, something few ground units have.
4. Set up more of them than you think you need (land units)... it increases the odds of one engaging, which seems to catapult the others.

I have had great results with the above-artillery firing at ships, mortars firing at FOB, AAA damaging an F-111, and antitank rockets downing armored helicopters...not to mention a lot of ground/ground action.
