And don't even get me going on some of the other 'so called' european beers...I fell for those once, and I'd rather drink diesel fuel.
To each, his own I guess.

Wonder what kind of European beers you've been testing? :p There's some real nasty stuff out there, but the real beer kinds are good. Staropramen and (the orginial Czech) Budweiser are good if you want Lager. I'm more into ales and Belgian beers.

BONG!

Karnaaj -> (6/1/2003 12:01:05 PM)

For the moment, Mike's Hard Lemonade. *glug*

Beginning 26 Jun 03, and continuing until further notice, Canadian alcoholic cider (primarily Okanogon and Growers, with others if they look interesting). Hic! (Running roughly 5.5-7.5% alc, based on past experience; flavours including peach , raspberry, black cherry, pear [ not much of this for me], apple [ nor this], and whatever else looks good. Okanogon Olde English [4-pack premium type] is straight apple, but you can't *taste* the apple. Growers is cheaper, and less quality; more apple "aftertaste", on the whole.)(Growers, in the past, has also been available in 2-liter bottles. *glug* *glug*)

Roughly $300 budgeted this vacation for cider. Duty-free limit is 2 liters alc per person (and I have two people), but I'll save that for *serious* stuff, mebbe Red Army Vodka. Duty on cider/beer is only like $0.03 US/liter. Wheee!

Operation Sweatbox (why yes, my Astrovan *doesn't* have air conditioning) is shaping up to be:

25 Jun: Final logistics purchase and embarkation; after work, perishables loaded and convoy to muntions depot. (Indian Reservation fireworks stand - let's see what they have. ) Continue on to reconnoiter major infrastructure (tour and laser light-show at Grand Coulee Dam; Atlantic Wall my @ss, this sucker is *big*). Laager for the night.

26 Jun: Forward easy along state highways, then feed into the Red Ball Express of Interstate 90. Minor stops for replenishment along the way to Redmond, where the first major planned resupply is set: Fatburger. Redirect to northbound Interstate 5, with casual recon of passing scenery and locations until arriving at the POL dump in Blaine. Infiltrate by looking innocent and continue to minor base location in Vancouver.

27-29 Jun: Requisition cider supply, recon (via public transit; cheaper than driving) local bookstores, game shops, and other Victory Hexes. Practise amphibious operations in motel pool. (Possible electronic intelligence operations at night, if motel has high-speed 'Net access.)

30 Jun: Return to Phase Line Blaine and clear selected strongpoints of VHs along the assault path to SeaTac. (Seattle itself will be a major operation, but Everett, Bellingham, Mount Vernon, etc., will be taken as objective raids.) Upon arrival at SeaTac operations area, base with ELINT access will be established within patrol distance of Area of Operations WESTERCON 56.

1-2 Jul: Recon and sieze VHs in greater Seattle area. Also, recon nearby laagers in SeaTac for early tactical operations and intelligence exchange activities. (Gaming and parties pre-Westercon.)

3-6 Jul: Intensive actions within and surrounding AO WC56. I should even be able to observe planned operations and exercises. (In other words, this time I'll be able to go to some actual *programming*. Volunteered *waaaay* too much at my previous Westercons. Saw about half of one panel at WC52 here in Spokane. )

7 Jul: Cast Reanimate Dead. (Ooops, wrong game.) Call in Final Protective Fire and initiate retrograde advance to Spokane.

8 Jul: Ghhaaahh! Braaains! Back to work...

As if anyone *cares*, right? Planned VH locations include the Boeing museum and the Stormbirds facility. Might be willing to drop a few bucks and tour the Russki sub at the Seattle Waterfront. Probably won't make it to Tacoma, much less Bremerton this trip, so no naval museum/destroyer tour. Oh well, I'm not a boat dude anyways...

stevemk1a -> Cider ... mmm! (6/1/2003 1:06:31 PM)

The Okanogan brand 'Crisp Apple' cider is the best of them. It's got none of that hokey flavoring they add to all the 'fruity' ciders ... It's a 7% alc. drink, so buyer beware! Trust me ... it tastes like soda-pop but it sneaks up on ya! ... nab some Kokanee Gold beer too ... mmm:cool:

Rhodan -> (6/1/2003 2:21:29 PM)

aww I used to live in Vernon..-gettign all mysty eyed now-..Okanagan is the place to be.

Despite that silly notion that Nessie is going there for her summer retreats

KuschelWurm -> beer starts at 7% (6/2/2003 5:02:26 AM)

Hi!

Is it possible to get strong BOCK-beer (dont know how to translate that - strong and rich beer!) in the States?

I mean stuff like double (7%) or triple bock (11,8%).

Everytime I am over there I only those wimpy budweiser, miller and heineken bottles....:confused:

Belisarius -> (6/2/2003 5:43:20 AM)

Bock's good beer... I prefer the "weak" variant however. ;)

And what about Kriek? Hm... :p

Hmmm. Wonder if they changed the name? Back in the early '90s the one I'm thinking of was "Okanogon Olde English", in a 4-pack with foil-wrapping covering the cap and upper neck. (I might be wrong... but I don't think so. )

But I *like* the hokey flavours! Whenever I manage to get into a house again (as opposed to this too-small apartment), I'm thinking of doing homebrew cider'n'stuff. A carefully-balanced peach/cinnamon flavour holds interest for me, but I need to do some taste-testing. Mead, as well, since I bought one bottle from a Califnordian a few years back; wish I'd 1) bought more and 2) not lost his contact info.

Never have found a beer that I like; they all taste like, well, *beer*.

M4Jess -> (6/6/2003 1:15:31 AM)
