Vetkin -> Vetkin vs. Capt. Chris AFRICA! (5/30/2003 8:38:56 PM)

Somewhere in Northern Africa... It's Panzer vs. original british equipment time! Rommel vs. uhmm the British forces! The British commander (me) will try to somehow stave off the bloodthirsty and cunning forces of the Fox!

Points: I forgot, around 4000-6000 I think.

C&C: OFF

Artillery: 10%

Map type: Open desert with a bunch of hills (usual random map stuff)

Map size: Small

Capt Chris -> (5/31/2003 8:23:56 AM)

North Africa
August 1941

Just got done with deployment. Let's see how this thing plays out.

7000 points here. That's a lot of troops on a small map. It's pretty crowded back here right now. How 'bout some of you Brits make some room over there. :-)

Vetkin -> (6/1/2003 6:22:30 PM)

Oh don't worry about space, there'll be gaping holes in your army soon hehehehehe

I'll email you the turn later :D

Vetkin -> (6/1/2003 8:13:56 PM)

The battle begins with a fierce barrage from both sides; the Germans letting loose with 81mms, 105mms and 150mms which poured out in a more or less straight line. A few British soldiers are killed (2 casualties.) The British in their part let loose with a couple of 25 pounders, hopefully hitting a few soldiers. A scout car moves forward and encounters an 81mm mortar and crew. The crew is showered with bullets from the car's machine gun. The car quickly retreats fearing direct fire from the 81mm.

Vetkin -> (6/2/2003 11:25:13 AM)

I just realized something, for some freak reason, visibility is a whopping !1!

A sandstorm has engulfed the battle!

I destroy a half-track this turn with an AT rifle. Nothing else much can be seen, mortars continue to rain down on my lines.

Capt Chris -> (6/2/2003 11:45:20 PM)

Not much to report as of right now. It's slow going through this sandstorm. I've never played a 1 vis game before. This should be interesting... :D

Vetkin -> (6/3/2003 8:50:29 AM)

A lot more action this turn as British Commandos infiltrate to their assigned positions. A Panzer mark II is destroyed in the German home hexes. Another one is assaulted but resists the commandos' satchel charges and grenades. More commandos infiltrate near a hill suspected of importance and seriously decimates an 88mm and its crew. A forward observer desperately tries to fight back.

In other news, armor not faring so well as they are met with fierce and organized Panzer mark IIIs accompanied by SS. 2 cruisers and a crusader are destroyed by the deadly 50mm. All the Brits have to show for those losses is one Half-track w/ a 37mm gun :mad:

Capt Chris -> (6/3/2003 9:41:17 AM)

The commandos at my home hexes have finally been disposed of but not until they took a decent toll on my rear ranks.

This turn showed much more action, led by an armored engagement right near center obj and also in the south. The crusaders didn't fare to well against the Panzer III's.

Rommel must have anticipated the bad weather. He has brought a few flame-panzers to the field of battle, deadly platform at 1 hex which the Brits found out this turn.

I hope that 12 turns is enough to finish this battle.

Vetkin -> (6/4/2003 1:34:59 AM)

The 88mm gun is destroyed and the crew killed by commandos.

Elsewhere...

"Sir!! We are being overpowered immensely by a concentration of Panzer IIIs and Flame tanks! What do we do now!?"

(static)

"Hold the line by Gods! Use everything you can right smartly! This is the British Army for Chrissake! There will be no defeat or retreat here!"

"Yes sir!"

Not much action, a scout car of mine is destroyed. Mortars continue to rain death & destruction across the British lines.

Capt Chris -> (6/4/2003 8:21:02 AM)

Just found this in the suggestion box on the side of Rommel's tank. "Can't we just wait until the sandstorm passes?" Apparently the troops aren't really enjoying the weather.

Those blasted commandos just won't die and took out some more of my troops. Just a few minor skirmishes this turn, nothing really big. I know the Brits are out there somewhere...

... but where?

Vetkin -> (6/4/2003 10:41:40 AM)

Commandos continue their rampage behind enemy lines, destroying a 150mm artillery cannon, and killing a Forward observer team. A panzer II is also immobilized up north. An ammo truck(?) is destroyed by brave crewmen in the center. German PZ IIIs contnue to be unstoppable...

Artillery from both sides pound on suspected enemy positions... the sandstorm a great equalizer

Vetkin -> (6/5/2003 10:24:05 AM)

Not much accomplished this turn except for getting a couple of Matildas and a Cruiser killed in a very close-ranged battle with a PzIII... Brits are trying to figure out how to stop these tanks with their inferior 2 pounder cannons.

Vetkin -> (6/6/2003 1:59:42 PM)

German forces ripping through British lines like tissue paper... Commandos destroy a PzII. In turn, a squad is dispersed by a flame panzer.

British forces deploy their AA guns in the sandstorm, hoping to ambush unsuspecting tanks.

Vetkin -> (6/8/2003 12:13:27 AM)

The pressure is too much for British forces, who call a general withdrawal of all forces, and surrender of those who are behind the lines...

I SUrrender! NEver have I been massacred this badly in my whole life playing SP:WAW, well maybe by Viking once or twice...

New game? Same forces but new map? with normal visibility?

Capt Chris -> (6/8/2003 3:29:34 AM)

I accept your surrender. Those flame tanks are hell on wheels in low-visibility fights.

Go ahead and setup another one just as you described. Same forces, random map is good. Just make sure you set visibility to 30+. :)

Vetkin -> (6/8/2003 8:57:02 PM)

YOu set it up this time and send it to my email, I don't wanna screw up again :D

Thanks

Capt Chris -> (6/9/2003 7:26:00 AM)

I lost your email address. I just cleaned out my inbox. Either post or send me an email with it so I can send you the turn.

Thanks.

Vetkin -> (6/9/2003 10:09:23 AM)

derrickvillanueva@yahoo.com :D

Around 5000 pts?

Capt Chris -> (6/9/2003 8:58:28 PM)

Sure. Do you still want a small map?

Vetkin -> (6/9/2003 9:04:19 PM)

No, let's make it a medium this time, 7000 pts. mid-1943, visibility 20? (U decide, make it around 20-25) 10% arty etc

Vetkin -> (6/10/2003 2:45:03 PM)

OK, the new game is about to start... My score so far with using the UK is 0-1. Another game with Frank W. is doing pretty well but its too early to tell...

Now, for sweet revenge on Capt. Chris... :D :mad:

Capt Chris -> (6/10/2003 11:14:38 PM)

I'm all purchased, just awaiting the return of email9.zip! You can bet that in this visibility, I won't have as many flame tanks. :D

Good luck. :)

Vetkin -> (6/10/2003 11:20:38 PM)

Agh can you send me a message to derrickvillanueva@yahoo.com, I'm sorry, I erased all messages... send a msg so i can reply with the turn... Time to tame the Tigers!! :mad:

Capt Chris -> (6/10/2003 11:27:15 PM)

You should have it.

Vetkin -> (6/12/2003 10:08:16 AM)

OK, here we go! 1943... The time when the Brits start Operation Torch...sent u the turn...

LET'S GET IT ON!!! :mad: :D :mad:

Capt Chris -> (6/13/2003 8:54:37 AM)

A massive onslaught of Airborne British troops jump right in the middle of my main deployment area. I wish I had been counting but I think I saw over 30 transport aircraft. Not a good day to be a British soldier I might add. Too bad I didn't buy any AAA or it could have been worse.

5 light armor(support) units destroyed as well as numerous airborne troops.

The Germans suffered very light casualties.

I spotted a couple tanks down range and I'm sure there are more to come. Let's see how this one pans out.

Vetkin -> (6/13/2003 3:29:46 PM)

British commander wonders how his paratroopers fared... Sorry Capt. Chris, I'll be away from my computer for 1 1/2 to 2 days, I'll post ASAP when it gets back fully repaired :D

Capt Chris -> (6/13/2003 7:34:07 PM)

NP. Talk to you then.

Vetkin -> (6/15/2003 7:01:24 PM)

OK, I'm back, here we go...

British general gravely miscalculates the size of the enemy's rear defenses and paratroopers run amok behind enemy lines, like a chicken caught in a deadly and rapidly closing noose. An exceptional rifle squad attacks a half-track with a rifle grenade, exploding it and forcing the squad inside to disembark. This squad is then harrased by rifle and LMG fire. A forward observer is also killed.

To the front, Shermans race across the desert and take up positions under a hail of 88mm, 75mm and 50mm fire. Only one is damaged, hit up front with an 88mm shell, thank god range is still too great for an instant kill...

120mm german mortar throws my paratroopers in greater confusion... its starting to look like the scene from saving private ryan (its first 20 minutes)

Bloody Hell! :mad: :D :mad:

Capt Chris -> (6/16/2003 11:34:00 PM)

Back in action.

Still trying to rid my rear ranks of those blasted Airborne infantry as well as setup a forward line for fighting those Shermans!

So right now I have a two front battle raging. Spotted numerous shermans last turn and took some pot shots. Got a few of them, but they are still a little hard to hit. Not really seeing much more than that.
