Malafon -> Windows 10 crippled (3/18/2018 4:27:05 AM)

My work updated my computer from Windows 7 to Windows 10. CMANO runs very slow now - 10 seconds per 1 second game time, so practically unusable. It was perfectly fine before. Is there a fix?

Hi Malafon...

Maybe it was the patch to fix the CPU exploit bug, there was a rumor that it could slow down some machines (especially Intel CPUs) by 33%..

I do notice some time weirdness in some massive scenarios, but setting the time to 2x fixes it mostly....

no, wouldn't have thought so tbh, more than likely more back ground services running which have slowed it down, and a clean install of windows 10 is and will always be better than a upgraded to version, has less junk taken over, best advice is to post a report then see what is loaded and think about closing down some background task so less are running each and every boot and see if that make it work better, or at least the same as it was before, either way good luck,...

try safe mode and a run and then you will see if it's the junk or background tasks running which are really slowing your system down

How to get a DirectX Diagnostic file:

1. click on "START"
2. click "run"
3. type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice

We prefer that DxDiag files be posted as message attachments rather than pasted into the body of the post.

once the report has been made, just attach it to your post with first adding the file to a zip, which is then permitted to attach to the forum

One thing to look at is drivers, directx, and .net. If you don't update those on an OS upgrade, you can have issues like that.

Ok, attached. Thanks in advance.

so no drivers even loaded on first look

Upon performing a clean installation or upgrading to Windows 10 on your Dell Latitude E6420 Notebook computer, you will notice that Windows 10 will automatically install most of the device drivers required for your computer.

In case you do notice any issues with device drivers / software packages, you must install the following drivers / software packages in the following sequence. If specific Windows 10 drivers are not available on Dell Support website, you can try to install the Windows 8 / 8.1 compatible driver.

so clean install or upgrade, means you may have to manually follow a different route, but the link is your first port of call, if not, there support will help you as atm you have no drivers at all, so you may have one or 2 on the above laptop, depending on spec, but normally windows 10 would have picked them up for you, so it seems you may have other issues first as well, but solvable tbh, but as it's hardware, not really something we can or would normally dig into either other than to point you in the right direction etc

zakblood -> RE: Windows 10 crippled (3/22/2018 9:26:49 AM)

as order of install is paramount,

quote:

If the system supports NVidia Optimus™, ensure the Intel HD Video driver is installed first, followed by NVidia driver installation later. Windows 10 will already contain native drivers for Intel HD Video Adapters.

Card name: Microsoft Basic Display Adapter

so first check your build to see if you have both a intel and Nvidia card and if so, install the intel chipset drivers first then and only then, the one's from the link for the Nvidia ones

Puciek -> RE: Windows 10 crippled (3/22/2018 9:33:52 AM)

What graphics card do you have? As zakblood said, you don't have drivers installed for it, which is weird as win10 should be able to install nvidia/ati drivers on its own. Best to go to the website of your graphics card manufacturer, download the driver's installer yourself and install them, this should resolve the FPS problem, as because of lack of drivers you get barely any hardware support for the graphics engine.

zakblood -> RE: Windows 10 crippled (3/22/2018 9:46:07 AM)

in the link i gave you is the driver packs for the laptop direct from the makers, as win 10 hasn't but should have fully picked up those basic chips tbh

Malafon -> RE: Windows 10 crippled (3/22/2018 10:11:52 AM)

Thanks, I'll try that on the weekend.
It's a work machine and they upgraded it to windows 10.
Butchered the job, took more than a day and wiped out all my CMANO saves and installed games plus a scenario I was building.
And now this.

zakblood -> RE: Windows 10 crippled (3/22/2018 10:15:59 AM)

you will also need admin permissions to add or alter any drivers, so make sure they give you or make you an administrator or it won't work either

Malafon -> RE: Windows 10 crippled (3/22/2018 10:24:00 AM)

Aargh.
I've got a Acer Aspire 5920 running vista. I might try that instead.
Thanks again.

Lowlaner2012 -> RE: Windows 10 crippled (3/24/2018 12:03:49 PM)

I had a major Windows 10 slowdown problem, it took about a month of messing around to find out it was an old VIA HD sound mixer program that was starting from bootup and running in the background, as soon as I terminated the program and then stopped it from starting with Windows it was like having a new PC...

Anyway the one program that helped me solve my issue was Project Lasso, its a program that streamlines Windows for gaming and lets you see what programs are using the most CPU and taking up lots of memory.... that way you can temporally terminate programs one by one to see if they might be whats slowing your PC down.... its free for a trial period and after that it only takes longer to start up but it still works...

Cheers

Malafon -> RE: Windows 10 crippled (3/28/2018 9:08:57 PM)

Thanks for your help everyone. [&o]
Installed new drivers and it's humming again.
Really appreciate your work - if you're ever in far north Queensland, (which I wouldn't advise), hit me up for a beer.
