As far as rankings are concerned, well there are Elo ratings software that can work out the Elo ratings for people in a league / ladder.

Interesting

I was thinking for everyone, I guess people could opt out. It would make the game more transparent and add a new dimension. I think people would be more interested and involved if they had a rank and could achieve a higher one.

Just a thought, it looks like other games have a similar system.

I don't know how hard it would be to program, maybe your solution is the easiest. People have to sign up tho which is a big hurdle.

I like the ranking idea - Dilly Dilly

A bunch of games have something similar

It gives something to work for

I'd like to re-introduce this concept.

Check out Amadeus BSing some guy that he is new in the tech support section. This guy (Amadeus) has been posting in SC3 since 2016, played in tourny in Feb.

Thats why we need a ranking because of people like this.

This is so pathetic.

Based on my experience in multiple online wargaming organizations, I would assume that is probably not really that uncommon. The problem with it is that it can ruin a new guy on PBEM altogether. Had Amadeus not submitted that screenshot to identify a bug, no one would ever have been the wiser. His opponent, however, might forego the game entirely after having his head royally handed to him by another "Rookie". Can you imagine the effect if Sugar portrayed himself as a snot nosed, Rookie in a game against a genuine Newbie? OMG!!! [X(]

The only thing you can do is call attention to it, and publicly censure the guy for his subterfuge as you have done. The problem with that is that only a few people will ever read the forums to see it, and the chances of you ever discovering it happening are really very slim. Such prevarication is not good for our hobby, but some people are really serious about winning, despite any ramifications that may be caused by their methods. They think it is all about them. It isn't, but some people never do manage to figure that out.

Shame on you, Amadeus! [:-]

KorutZelva -> RE: Ranking Players (6/25/2018 9:40:06 AM)

I suggest a three tier system.

First tier is Sugar
Second tier is KZ
Third tier is 'The plebes' [:D]

j/k, a basic elo score next to the name would be ideal but even just displaying the number of game played would be enough.

Good points DerJager

Unfortunately there is a group of players that think its just good clean fun to deceive a new player and then pummel them. This was my initial PBEM experience and it drives people away from the PBEM experience.
