John 3rd -> March 1942 Between the Storms (3/25/2018 10:39:29 PM)

OK. I am bored from ending my game with Dan while waiting for Big Red to get his game done. Time to get back to work.

For a great while I have been thinking about the sheer BOREDOM of taking the DEI (and other beginning moves) over and over. To fix this, I want to create a March 1, 1942 game start. While taking a great amount of time to flip the bases and figure starting locations of remaining units, my hope is to get the game set to March 1st and then create March 1, 1942 starts for ALL FOUR of our Mods. We'll make it so you can start either December 7th or March 1st for Treaty, Reluctant Admiral, Between the Storms, or Between the Storms Lite.

For this work I am shifting the Mod Base from DaBabes to Brian's B-Mod. We'll use that as the template and then overlay the Mods on top of it.

Biggest Questions for Forum Members:
1. March 1st is the start. How far to we make the expansion? I figure all the DEI, some of Burma, and nibbles in the South and Central Pacific. What do you think?

2. How do we determine ship losses?

3. Air Losses??

4. Ground Losses???

What else needs to be taken into consideration?

Please sound off with you thinking!

BillBrown -> RE: March 1942 Between the Storms (3/25/2018 11:39:07 PM)

Ship, Pilot, and LCU experience need to be increased.

John 3rd -> RE: March 1942 Between the Storms (3/26/2018 1:08:57 AM)

That is daunting but makes some serious sense.

John 3rd -> RE: March 1942 Between the Storms (4/1/2018 7:33:56 PM)

OK. I have created a new folder for Brian's Mod to go into. Am now getting ready to download the Mod and shall begin work at that point.

First priority is flip all the bases over to Japanese control.

Brian---Is the Mod capable of using the Extended Map?

John 3rd -> RE: March 1942 Between the Storms (4/1/2018 8:11:13 PM)

Nevermind--Was stupid asking about the Extended Map. Of course it does![:D]

John 3rd -> RE: March 1942 Between the Storms (4/1/2018 8:40:08 PM)

Would like to thank Brian for a very easy-to-follow install guide. Did it without issue and the scenario loaded on the first pass. I loaded EVERYTHING including Extended Map, artwork, ship sides, China Road Movement, etc...

EASY!

John 3rd -> RE: March 1942 Between the Storms (4/1/2018 8:41:58 PM)

It is always good to examine the install before doing anything! Am getting a 'bounce' with the ship art. Assume a simple reinstall should work here. Will try...

If you want a May 42 start, I have a list of US army starting locations for AE....GP

How do you do that Sir? Can you explain the switch in detail.

I plan on making it a March 1, 1942 start date. Basically, we'll get Pearl and the DEI dealt with.

Do your notes state WHEN a unit arrived? Could back track that to the intended start date of the Mod.

Printed and read through Brian's READ ME Introduction. Have to say that I like the work he has done. China looks INTERESTING.

The
the -wd switch is windowed mode with daily saves. You may have the -w switch which is windowed mode only....GP

I assume you are using windows 10.

I got my info from "World War Two, Order of Battle" by Stanton and some online sources that I can't remember at the moment. My list is just for the May 42 time frame. I could do it for a March 42 start if you wish....GP

Kitakami -> RE: March 1942 Between the Storms (4/3/2018 3:05:58 PM)

This looks like it is going to be very interesting. Will be reading with much interest.

Korvar -> RE: March 1942 Between the Storms (4/3/2018 6:21:09 PM)

FYI, as to the 'bouncing' ship art - I agree that it is a windowed mode issue due to the fact that fullscreen mode automatically centers the game window for you. If you have not centered your game (in windowed mode) properly, the game doesn't know where the ship graphic is located and just assumes it's where it "should be". Moving the mouse cursor over any selectable yellow text would cause the ship image to 'jitter'.

I first noticed this when I set up my game to play in the rough equivalent of 'borderless window' mode; in other words, I play WitP:AE in windowed mode, but with the game window sized to match the resolution of my primary monitor. I do this to have the full screen experience while still maintaining easy access to Tracker/Combat Reporter, etc. This requires using a script when the game is launched which moves the game window partially offscreen so the title bar at the top and the window frame are moved out of view and only the game window itself remains visible. When I don't set the pixel offset correctly, the ship image distortion occurs.

That would be fantastic!

If you can take the time, then I'll implement it.

Thanks.

John 3rd -> RE: March 1942 Between the Storms (4/4/2018 4:24:02 PM)

Man. Talk about click fatigue. I am in the process of shifting about 1,000,000 bases/dots over to Japanese control.

Question for Modders: If I advance the start date for the Mod will it automatically bring in the scheduled reinforcements? Anyone know about that?

Big B -> RE: March 1942 Between the Storms (4/4/2018 5:52:43 PM)

Yes, it will bring in every unit/device who's start date or delay - is prior to the scenario start date...

HansBolter -> RE: March 1942 Between the Storms (4/4/2018 8:35:22 PM)

What assumptions will you make on the aggressiveness/timidity of the Allied side for the first three months?

Will you assume an Allied player would evacuate assets to preserve them for future use and not give up victory points in Sir Robin manner?

Or will you assume an aggressive Allied start endeavoring to fight for every inch of territory losing it anyway along with the assets?

I think these are the toughest choices you will have to make.

Man---That is GOOD NEWS!! Thanks Brian.

This is the EXACT concern I have had as I've begun grappling with this Mod concept.

How far does one take this? To be honest, I've given serious thought to using DICE (old school) to make some of the decisions. Could really use some suggestions/ideas on this front.

I obsess on the shipping but also have to think on the state of the air units, saved ground forces, starting locations of remaining forces, etc...

The list seems endless. Doing this is far more challenging then a Dec 7th start...

Kursk1943 -> RE: March 1942 Between the Storms (4/5/2018 6:17:15 AM)

Don't you want to start your scenario historically? Losses, whereabouts... you name it... as it was in March 1942 in real life?

I agree that this would likely be the most palatable to both sides.

Trick is to find documentation on the locations and states of forces on both sides around the start date.

John 3rd -> RE: March 1942 Between the Storms (4/5/2018 2:44:32 PM)

Concur with that thought. One of the reasons for the March 1st start is to simply have the DEI out-of-the-way so the players can jump into the 2nd phase of the game and have a great time...

John 3rd -> RE: March 1942 Between the Storms (4/5/2018 2:45:53 PM)

My goal today is to finish flipping the map and advance the start date to see what happens. Will then go thru and eliminate the Philippine Army...

Admiral DadMan -> RE: March 1942 Between the Storms (4/5/2018 5:58:53 PM)

I've also found this if it's any help:

World War II Database

John 3rd -> RE: March 1942 Between the Storms (4/5/2018 9:30:19 PM)

Goodness. That is pretty detailed. Thanks AD!
