fastfrank -> TOAW IV vanishes (4/8/2018 5:12:21 AM)

Just had TOAW IV blow up and vanish 5 consecutive times. Tried to attach save file but doesn't work. Shows a file path of C/fakepath/... How do I send you the save file? I'm in Win 10.

zakblood -> RE: TOAW IV vanishes (4/8/2018 5:14:49 AM)

as always check your anti virus program log files and see if that's affected anything game wise

did you install as admin?

running a administrator full account?

install by default path?

when downloaded, was the file saved on the desktop, or in a download folder?

and the more information you give, the better the reply maybe

fastfrank -> RE: TOAW IV vanishes (4/8/2018 5:26:08 AM)

can't find any McAfee log file???
Doubt I installed as admin
Installed by default path, file saved in a default folder
I reinstalled TOAW IV and the update tonight, Same result

did you try any of the link suggestions first?

and for your AV

"C/fakepath/"

Are you running it under linux?

rtropp -> RE: TOAW IV vanishes (4/8/2018 12:05:41 PM)

I am also using win 10. Losing the program was so bad that I began saving after almost each move. I recently switched TOAW from full screen to window. When I reduce the size of the window I seem to get fewer program shutdowns (although they still happen fairly regularly, enough for me to consider replacing TOAW after I finish my current campaign.
Switching TOAW to use the Window setting is still too new an activity to be able to draw any real opinion. But at first glance, windowed vs. full screen seems to be helping.

If the game is crashing then maybe it's a memory issue or you have too many programs open and running while the game is running. check that....GP

fastfrank -> RE: TOAW IV vanishes (4/9/2018 3:54:18 AM)

Windows Defender says not enabled, McAfee event log only shows "possible suspicious external request to connect", none coincide with program failure (map vanishes and screen reverts to pgm start screen). Ran as administrator, same result; ran in window, same result. Found crash log, attached. Have sal. file, can't attach to this email sys.

btd64 -> RE: TOAW IV vanishes (4/9/2018 11:17:27 AM)

Try reinstalling the game....GP

griffon29200 -> RE: TOAW IV vanishes (4/9/2018 6:36:19 PM)

My game vanish three times to day , just the same !

hingram -> RE: TOAW IV vanishes (4/9/2018 7:38:06 PM)

One thing that could cause the game to crash pertains to autoSave. It will try to save to My Documents\My Games\The Operational Art of War IV\Saves. Make sure you have rights to that directory.
Make sure you have applied the latest patch(4.0.1.43).

fastfrank -> RE: TOAW IV vanishes (4/9/2018 11:26:40 PM)

first thing I tried, no improvement

fastfrank -> RE: TOAW IV vanishes (4/9/2018 11:27:46 PM)

did you mean 4.0.1.23? Done

fastfrank -> RE: TOAW IV vanishes (4/9/2018 11:29:38 PM)

I'm in the 5th combat turn of round 15 of TOAW IV. If i5t were only memory I would expect a crash much earier.

Can't find a way around this "fakepath" block to send the sal file. Any suggestions?

zakblood -> RE: TOAW IV vanishes (4/10/2018 5:25:11 AM)

if each one of you can post a report, then we can see a common ground between each users and end results,

How to get a DirectX Diagnostic file:

1. click on "START"
2. click "run"
3. type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice

We prefer that DxDiag files be posted as message attachments rather than pasted into the body of the post.

once the report has been made, just attach it to your post with first adding the file to a zip, which is then permitted to attach to the forum

1, please also name the anti virus you use.

2, make sure you have admin permissions on the account your using.

3, did you install to the default path?

4, have you tried to install elsewhere?

the error is associated with file access issues, and isn't game related in such, but a error in the way windows managers files and permissions.

so uninstall the game and make sure the associated folders are also deleted,

install the game as right click install as admin on a full administrator permissions account, not a user which doesn't have full file access permissions.

install to C:\Games\The Operational Art of War IV

and install latest patch, with right click install as admin again on the exe, don't download to the desktop to install either the game on patch, the download folder is the correct place to download files to, as it has the correct file permissions to run files from, where as the desktop doesn't always have.

good luck and waiting for your replies once you have tried what i've suggested above, if it doesn't work, open a new post with your report attached, and make sure it's a new post for each so each one can be answered and replied to and not lost or missed tagging it onto someone else's post or reply etc, thanks and sorry for your issues

griffon29200 -> RE: TOAW IV vanishes (4/10/2018 9:41:08 AM)

Follow your instructions to the letter (default directory , direct x ....)

Works fine now , thank you sir !

zakblood -> RE: TOAW IV vanishes (4/10/2018 10:12:07 AM)
