I wonder, almost all subs in the database don't seem to have any optical magnification or low light/IR capabilities. Just look up the Virginia or Akula as examples. The only exception I have found so far are British A-class in the CWDB with a 'generic optical sight'. Are they somehow built in? If they are, they don't seem to have any magnification...

Interesting question. I know CMANO model periscopes and the masts use and they are detectable from enemy units visually or with radar. According to the devs (forum search), Command 1.10+ have different RCSs for periscope/ESM/radar mast and for snorkel. Modelling different sensors and masts could be very useful for some recon activity on land by submarines.

I think we should post/move this one in TECH...

Why do you think they don't have any magnification?

Because they can't classify surface and land contacts beyond vanilla eyeball ranges. At night, they don't even see them.

There's also no sensor entry indicating optical sensors.

Yes, I noticed about the same.
FLIR found in many subs should enable it to see better at night/bad weather, despite the limited height over the waves.

Updated an existing ticket on this issue.

Thanks a lot! We want Silent Service II too ;)

I mentioned this quite a while ago. Sub periscopes should have magnified optical sensors with light intensification capabilities as a minimum for any modern system.
